"Down on the corner Out in the street…read moreWilly and the poorboys are playin' Bring a nickel, tap your feet" (Creedence Clearwater Revival) Believe it or not, there's a section of downtown Louisville known as Whiskey Row. The Corner restaurant is smack in the middle of Whiskey Row and you won't be disappointed when I tell they sell over 90 different bourbons. The interior is an eclectic mix of tables, chairs, sofas and seating nooks. Some of their space is shared with the Aloft Louisville Downtown hotel, a Marriott boutique hotel. We grabbed two seats at the bar and had two cocktails and two salads for lunch. Our drinks were a Pomegranate Mule ($13.00) with Pomegranate, ginger beer, vodka, and lime, and a regular Margarita. I had a Chicken Cobb Salad ($15.00) with chicken, romaine, deviled eggs, avocado, charred sweet corn, cherry tomato, radish, pickled onion, sunflower seeds, ranch, lemon drizzle. It was excellent, but the Deviled Eggs were missing and replaced by avocado slices. My traveling companion had a Classic Caesar ($13.00) with Romaine, Caesar dressing, parmesan croutons, and crispy kale. She added Chicken for a $6.00 upcharge. The Corner is "dog friendly" and we were thoroughly entertained by the antics of a Great Dane and Bulldog as they interacted. Our server was fantastic, and I'm sorry I missed her name, although I did take a few photos of her mixing and shaking some cocktails.

Food was just ok- cheese fries was literally just beer cheese on top without toppings really. Food wasn't bad but I don't think I'd come out of my way just to eat here.

The bacon was thick and a great portion. The fries are thin and super salty. I'd recommend a different side to go with your sandwich. I noticed a pick two for a salad, soup, or sandwich. It included a drink, which made it a good deal. The menu offers several breakfast and sandwich items, plus bakery, salads, and sides. Plenty of seating and I enjoyed the brightness of the main room with its high ceilings. We had a table of 40+ people. The food came out together and our server hustled with a smile.

I started off with a diet coke and it fell flat. The menu listed a fountain drink and it was coke served from a soda gun. The carbonation wasn't strong and didn't last past the first few sips. I ordered off the breakfast menu and got the huevos rancheros and a blueberry muffin. The eggs were cooked to order and the potatoes were delicious! The muffin was okay. It was a bit on the dry side and would be skipped next time. My friend got a BLT and wasn't impressed. One piece of bread was soft while the other was hard, almost stale. It's a beautiful space but the meal was a disappointment.

Decided we'd do a dinner of beer cheese, salad and wings. Enjoyed the beer cheese and pretzels, though it's not something that I'd order regularly. Side salads fine, nothing memorable, but at least they were fresh and crispy. Liked the wings, I got hot, the wife got sweet thai chili. When ordering, she said she'd give me one or two of hers, but she liked them so much that she finished off the plate, so that's a rave review! My hot wings were reasonably spicy and meaty as well. Appreciated the wipes! It's not going to win a Michelin star, but if we were in the area, we'd visit the troll again.

This place was one of the first recommended online, also plus: if you go on their website and subscribe to their e-list, you get a free appetizer included! I arrived at "Troll Pub" (love the name) and walked downstairs. The ambiance is dark, but welcoming. I was taken to the bar-area, and the barista was extremely nice and helpful in choosing my appetizer (fried pickles) and of course, getting my taste of my first Hot-Brown. The pickles were absolutely delicious. Fresh, crisp, with a bit of sour. Absolute 5/5. Now on to the Hot Brown ---- this is hot open-faced sandwich --- let me stop, here's the accurate description: thick-sliced turkey and bacon on toast, smothered in a creamy Mornay (cheese) sauce, and baked until bubbly. What I liked about their particular hot-brown (like i could compare...), was that the bread was torn into pieces, so it was very easy to eat. I get it now , Louisville! If ever your near the area, go to their website, get that free app --- then pop-in to try Kentucky's famous Hot-Brown. 5/5 experience.
