After placing our order, we were offered to dine in at the adjacent building that does have AC. We were taking our food to go, so it made no difference to us. They also offer drive through service. For those dining in, simply sit and the food comes to you. I liked that they had complementary shelled peanuts. I ordered a large loaded baked potato. Brisket was great. I also ordered a small mack n cheese to taste it. Didn't care for the mac n cheese. I will definitely be coming back to try more things from their large menu choices.

Don't miss your exit! This BBQ is the BEST I have ever had in Texas! We pulled over on Highway 281…read morewhile headed southbound. There is a Diner with AC and a 2nd building that is for more casual seating (screened in patio) or takeout. We ordered the Chopped Brisket Sandwich with a potato salad side. The meat was flavored and smoked to perfection. The bun was fresh, soft, and toasted. The ice tea was excellent. They had an extensive menu of other classic BBQ dishes and I overheard another customer praise the seafood. While enjoying our meal, we briefly chatted with the owner Brian who was very welcoming, along with his friendly staff. He explained that the majority of his restaurant business are customers that drive by since its location is in a remote area. The great news... he offers catering all the way from San Antonio to McAllen, Hidalgo, and in between! My husband & I plan on making this a destination for BBQ when we do our monthly road trips to SPI.

Nice new and clean travel center in Falfurrias. The restrooms were clean as was the dining area…read more Tons of packaged food, snacks and drinks. Dunkin Donuts products sold here. PJ Fresh deli foods: sandwiches, salads, cold cuts, cheese, available. Dozens of drink choices but I was disappointed the "iced tea" is made from a concentrate. Not fresh brewed like at Whataburger down the street or Loves. The salad was fresh but the salad dressing choices are very few. Hope you like ranch and weren't hoping for blue cheese or balsamic vinaigrette. The ham and cheddar sandwich was freshly made, well sized, ...but the "special sauce" advertised on the packaging was barely there, only a quarter sized stain on the bread. So the sandwich was very dry. Solution: if you get a sandwich, unwrap it first and add what condiments you need at the counter or by the hot dog counter. The hot food choices behind the counter looked slim. Perhaps wrong time of day. But you can order made what you want. They seemed to have some meatloaf and Mac and cheese under the lids. One employee was helpful and more friendly. The others seemed disconnected. Not the best travel stop, but could be. It has great potential. I hope their management can bring it up a notch or two.

You have more food selections including healthy food options. The place is spacious and easy to navigate. The bathroom stall doors are better installed, not a peek-a-boo kind of installation, not worrying whether the person passing by might see you in your awkward moment. The decor is also contemporary. Thank you for giving us a better place to stop during the long drive between the Rio Grande valley and north of the border.

They also have truck parking next to the restaurant that not a lot of people realize. I walked in and was greeted immediately by very nice and professional staff. But of course if you know me, you know I chose to sit at the bar. They were playing some soccer game on the TV. I don't watch sports so doesn't matter to me what's on the TV. My bartender greeted me IMMEDIATELY and took my drink order, and gave me a menu. This guy was on his game! Very attentive, engaged in banter. Couldn't be happier with my bar experience all together. I'm on a no-carb kick, so It can be challenging sometimes to find carb-free options at Mexican restaurants, since all the good stuff and fun stuff to eat like tortillas, rice, beans, and other fried dishes are plentiful. But I noticed they had a Molcajete! (For those don't know what that is, it's essentially a bowl carved out of volcano rock, and then heated up with various meats and other ingredients, served SUPER HOT). My molcajete came with pretty good size shrimp, beef, chicken, couple slices of mozzarella type cheese, pico and other stuff in the bottom. The bartender asked me if I wanted to substitute my rice and beans for avocado and pico, which I did. I ate my avocado and put the pico into my molcajete. I am a faithful consumer of tajin, and tapatio. BUT They didn't have tap! They only have Cholula. The bartender told me he keeps requesting it, but never gets it, so cholulah it was. My molcajete was super hot, boiling like it should be, really flavorful. All together really good. I did notice The Rock wasn't as deep as other Mexican restaurants I've been to that served it, and didn't have a couple other little things in it that other Mexican restaurants too, but it was still good nonetheless and a perfect portion size for me. I didn't realize they close at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday because I planned on having supper there again tonight, so I will be stopping in the next time I come down to this part of Texas! Thank you Taqueria Jalisco! Maybe next time I'll have a cheat day and eat something carby!
