I had an Italian sub from Sub Station II tonight. The sandwich was fantastic and huge. The ingredients were fresh and I highly recommend this. The staff was courteous and quick to prepare the order. The restaurant was a little run down but clean never the less. I will be going back for more in the future. read more

Sub Station II - Italian Sub - Sandwiches Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

Meatball sub, pickle, chips, iced tea. Interior is very basic and utilitarian. Workers were very efficient and nice.

Caught them just before closing (2055) as I thought maybe being closer to the airport/industrial side of louisville they would be open later. Simple turkey/cheese with vinegar/oil and seasoning. Fresh bread and overall enjoyed it. read more

Sub Station ll has been a go to of ours for over a decade, my husband came here as a child! The subs have always been spot on! It's such a chill, casual, old school vibe sort of place even with all the updates! It's looking a lot more put together as of late (not that it wasn't to begin with) & Employees have always been so patient & kind! read more

Well established business with great service food! Quick stop enroute to family vacation!

Sub station II is a sub place that is a long time fixture in the Louisville area located in a shopping center off fern valley road situated between the feee way exits and Preston Highway in the okolona area. Ive probably driven/ridden by this location over a thousand times in my life. I grew up in the area it is located in and worked at UPS down the road for a long time in my younger years. For some reason until tonight I had never eaten there before. Which is a shame because I enjoyed my sub sandwich quite a bit so I've been missing out on a good sandwich for over 30 years it seems. I was with the wife and my oldest and youngest daughters (#1 and #4). We decided to dine in. The lobby area is very spacious. You walk up to the register and place your order then you seat yourself. They will call out your order number and you return to the counter and grab your food. Somehow we all ended up with the spicy Italian whole (foot long). We all got ours dressed differently so all was a bit different. I really enjoyed my sandwich a lot. The bread was really good and fresh, the salami had nice flavor and the whole sandwich was just really fresh. I'm a fan of subway but I'll say this place has better subs then subway. Fresher and more substance. More filling. They also list the calories count next to each sub as well like subway is famous for. So that's cool for the calorie counters. My wife and and daughter both enjoyed it as well. My wife got a side of chili and it was not great. It tasted more like cheap mamwich or sloppy joe mix. She fed that to our one year old who was smashing the crackers and will eat anything. So while it was not very good chili it did not go to waste. Overall cool and nostalgic (they had a couple old arcade games) hole in the wall sub shop that I can now see why it has lasted as long as it has. I will not wait another 35 years to visit. Worth a visit and grabbing a tasty sub sandwich. read more

Place has a very old school vibe to it when you walk in, kind of out dated look but always clean. Always got great friendly and fast service from the staff. Food has been great me and my family has been going here for years and never had a bad experience, always great tasting. read more

My sub was really good. Friendly service. Great lunch spot for me. 5/5 stars will be back.

For the longest time, I had no idea Sub Station II was a chain. This is partially because it's a fairly small one; it operates around 40 stores across five states, most of which are in its native South Carolina. Beyond that, it also has a certain type of old-school, hole-in-the-wall charm that just feels effortlessly local. You could compare it to Ollie's Trolley in that regard, which has become an iconic part of Louisville culture despite originating as a chain. There's something I've been certain of for years, though: this is my favorite place in the area to grab a sub or reuben. Actually, I think the latter might be the biggest draw; the Sub Station II reubens are consistently outstanding and I wouldn't change a thing about 'em. Their menu is strong across the board, though, with bargain-level prices and meats that are both tasty and crammed to the brim of each sub. If you're not a reuben fan, my top recommendation would be the Italian (though who could dislike reubens, right?!). In a nutshell, this is one of those restaurants that doesn't reinvent the wheel but is just really, really great at what it does. Sub Station II is also an under-the-radar catering option if you're looking to shake things up from the usual pizza/Panera/Mark's Feed Store. They recently catered for an event at my workplace and did a stellar job. read more

The sandwich I had from Sub Station today was one of the best sandwiches I've had since I moved to Louisville 16 years ago! If you want a sandwich that will punch you in the face with flavor you've got to try this place. I went with something rather basic because I've been disappointed before so many times with boring bread and bad cold cuts everywhere else. But a simple turkey and cheese here was like a symphony! Everything was perfectly portioned, which is quite an art that I don't think many can appreciate until you find a sandwich like this. I loved the seasoning. When a sandwich is properly dressed with salt, pepper and a little oregano, you really taste the difference. The bread stands up to the condiments but it doesn't intrude on the other ingredients and the turkey is sliced very thin, just the way I like it. I finally found my sandwich heaven! Better late than never. read more

I've been eating at Sub Station II for as long as I can remember. It's nostalgic and delicious. So happy they're still around. It was where I played Donkey Kong arcade for the first time. I have never tried anything besides the #14 roast beef and turkey dressed with extra oil and vinegar. Never forgetting to ask for the pickle spears. read more

You can't get a better sub anywhere in Louisville that's for sure. This place has been here for years and if you haven't tried it you really need to. My favorite is the Ultimate Sub with extra oil and vinegar. read more

Good quality sandwiches made quickly and just as you order it. Good sized sandwich that you can eat half for lunch and half for dinner. I had the Reuben which was really good. Service is great and friendly. read more

I haven't been to Sub Station in years but the fact it's still there speaks volumes. I was doing a job in the area and decided to stop back in and grab a sandwich for lunch. I ordered the ultimate and the sandwich was just as good as I remember and also equally affordable. They threw a couple of pickle spears in the bag for me and would have done peppers too but I made a reply fail and only asked for the pickles. Do yourself a favor and stop in this Louisville staple that has stood the test of time! read more

A coworker recommended, so I was looking forward to trying. Several times we drove by and they weren't open, so we finally came by when they were open. The set up isn't like subway so you don't get to see them prepare your sandwiches and mine was wrong and my daughter's was also, once we got it home and opened our sandwiches. My husband's and daughter's was correct. The flavor was just not good, very bland. I was disappointed. read more

This is the best Subway ever! The people are always smiling and friendly. They even give you a free cookie with your order!

I decided to stop at sub station for lunch. This was my first time trying a sub sandwich place. I normally do not care for pressed meat. Sub station ll has definitely change my sandwich game. This was the best sub sandwich I have ever had! I ordered a turkey With cheeses fully load with Extra tomatoes, lettuce, and anything else that they were willing to put on my sandwich. The meat was fresh with a homemade Deli-taste. I would highly recommend this tasty sub sandwich place. The Fern Valley-staff was friendly and very accommodating. I am giving them five stars for a great experience. read more

This place just gets it. The subs are simply delicious. The combination of fresh ingredients, a friendly, hard working staff and classic no nonsense atmosphere make this place a must. Even for those who aren't fans of sandwiches, SubWay, Jimmy Johns, Penn Station, etc. This place is different. It doen't have the corporation feel. This is how I'd make a sandwich at home if I had the ability. There's a reason this place has been around for so long. So next time you have a hankering for a good sandwich, skip SubWay and get the sandwich you deserve. Fresh really does make a difference. Well worth it. Oh...and the bread is amazing. read more

Better than Subway but so so at best. Place was cold and dark and not very appealing. Cookie was gross.

Service was horrible . The cashier was boldly flriting with my husband to the point that we were both uncomfortable. She was very rude as well as interrupting our conversation. I won't be back due to this . Cashier had terrible mannerisms and was rude . I will not be bringing my family back .The guy who made the Sandwich was great however cashier has horrible attitude and flirtation with my family. Disgusting read more

This place used to be great when Chip was still alive. He made sure all sandwiches were made fresh. Since his passing the sandwiches are pre-made to accommodate the noon rush Hut sacrifices the quality of the sandwich as the meat moisture gets into the bread and makes it not so fresh tasting. I am going to Jersey Mike's until they go back to made as you order. read more

I was very disappointed in this place. The staff was a bit on the rude side and the prices were very high. My daughter did not want ham on her sandwich and wanted to substitute it for a different meat however they refuse to do it I had to pay the full price of the sandwich and get charged an additional for the turkey while they kept the ham. I have never heard of a sandwich shop charging you extra while keeping a portion of what you already paid for never in my life will I ever go back here or recommend this place. read more

Best subs in town. I have been going here for 40 years. Nothing compares to these fabulous subs. I am in love with the #19 dressed with everything, light onion. My daughter loves the ham and cheese, salad dressing only. My husband has just discovered his new favorite The Ultimate. Do yourself a favor and go have a sub. You will enjoy it!!!! read more

Best sub sandwich in town. I've been eating here for 35 years and it's always been consistent. The price is very fair for the quality of the product. Service is fast and friendly. Would highly recommend stopping by. You'll be surprised. read more

Food is amazing, best cold sandwiches in Louisville. BUT, went in today and a few of the employees were rude and seemed put out and annoyed by customers. I got scoffed at for wanting extra mayo packets. The lady behind the register with the super short haircut got on me when I didn't ask for extra vinegar in the beginning of my order. 5 star food 1 star customer service read more

I have no idea what the bad reviews are for. I have been coming here since I got out of high school and have invited many people to come eat with me. I can't stand Subway after having a Sub Station sandwich. I wouldn't come here for a meatball sub, my personal favorite is ham and cheese or any sub with salami on it and they always ask exactly what you want. The woman who works at the front is always good at listening to how much of each condiment or veggie you would like on your sub. read more

Great sandwiches !! I'm not sure exactly why they taste so good, but I have been going there for 25 years and love it. Probably the oil & vinegar spice mix they put on. Could be the bread which is always fresh. I hope I last another 25 years to keep eating there. My son (12) now enjoys it as much as I do. read more

I may have been one of the first customers who dined at Sub Station when it opened its doors a block up Fern Valley from its current location back in the late 70s when I was attending Watterson College up the street. Through the years, I have come back to partake of one of the better sub sandwiches in Louisville. Theirs is a more an old school take on a sub, rather than dressing it up with fancy breads and such. Meats and cheese are sliced up for your sandwich when you order like in an old deli rather than being sliced up in the morning and wrapped in wax paper like a lot places do nowadays. The rolls are always fresh with a good texture and the meats are also fresh with nice flavors. This is not the fanciest place, and a couple of my friends don't like it because they serve cold subs and my wife doesn't care for the mayo they serve, but I have enjoyed it for three decades and will probably keep coming back for some time to come. read more

Omg!! My new fav sub place. I'm a vegetarian and I still absolutely loved this place. I'll never eat another subway sandwich again after this. Right next to my work, cheap and fills you up! Love the oil vinegar and seasoning! Def will be back read more

Always a superb sandwich. I've been enjoying their #19 Fully Dressed since the early 80s. The quality and taste has always been consistent. When I met my wife, she had not heard of it and now her and our 9 year old son also loves it. Definitely treat yourself and stop by. read more

Use to be the best sub in town but this is no longer true. The bread was changed and the meat is sliced so tin it has no taste, if you remove a slice of meat and hold up you can see through it. I've eaten here for over 30 years and each time I return thinking it may improve has only gotten worse. Sorry Chip they are destroying your sandwich shop.. read more
