Camerons Outside Catering
(1 review)
TL;DR - Weird setting, but fabulous food…read more The story here is complicated. Cameron's is technically an outside catering firm. They used to have a restaurant based at a local garden centre where they were very popular, but they had to leave that venue at short notice. They're now operating out of Cunliffe Hall, the Masonic Hall in Chorley and because they moved at short notice, most folks probably don't know they're here. They only open for meals on a Sunday, and the venue is a bit odd - it's basically a function suite, and they have a number of tables set up at one end of a very large room. But believe me, it's well worth the visit - the food is fabulous. We turned up for a family meal and the grub on offer was great. Most folks went for the Bury Black Pudding starter, but my sister had the mushroom soup and I went for the kangaroo steak. Yes, you read that correctly. Everything was absolutely flawless and everyone raved about their starters. For main course, most folks went for the roast beef which came out beautifully pink. My dad went for fillet steak and I had the duck which was amazingly succulent and juicy. Dessert came round and we went for apple pie and custard and lemon meringue pies - again, everything was absolutely delicious. Pricewise, it's amazing value. The staff are incredibly friendly and the service was very good. The only reason I can't give them five stars is that the venue is just a bit odd - it does't *feel* like a restaurant, but you could serve this food in a swanky city centre restaurant at double the price and nobody would complain. Go to Cameron's. Great food. Great prices. Great staff.

Congrats to local chefs Mark Long & Matthew Agass for the tremendous food, Liz Singleton for the amazing entertainment set, the hard work of the staff during the evening , not to mention the hosts Jackie & Martyn for their warm welcome and letting it all happen. All in all a great evening, good luck for the future and hope it takes off for you all!

Mike and John cooked for us in our home to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. WOW what a night,…read moreI have to say it was the best night we have ever had, Mike and John worked closely with us to create the perfect menu for our guests, he provided all of the cutlery, plates and glasses and even washed up at the end. The evening was extremely good value for money, costing a similar amount to going to a restaurant but, with no babysitters or taxi home required and a much better level of food - simply fantastic and well recommended.

There nothing special at all they scrimp on the fillings for example bacon on toast two small and I do mean small, bits of bacon and an egg, £2.60 and then you have to pay extra for adding brown sauce. They didnt even tell us it was extra for sauce, so every day there was a heated discussion about the buttys. Untill someone asked why there bill was always different from the menu prices, we were buying over a pounds worth of sauce every day for five buttys. A least Dick Turpin wore a mask. Had the sandwiches been worthy of the extra there would not have been a problem, there answer was take it or leave it, so we left it. Plus they were always late, not a good service and there attitude stinks.

After making it into the top 4 on Masterchef a couple of years ago, Jackie aka 'the Hungry Gecko',…read moremade the decision to follow her true passion of cooking Asian street food full time and the world is a world place because of it. The slightly unassuming Beech Inn, Chorlton, is Jackie and Barbarella's (the very cool Silver Bullet trailer all the food is served out of) full time home and parked up in the beer garden. Food is ordered from the hatch and can be eaten either in the beer garden or, thankfully (because Manc doesn't have the climate of California unfortunately), inside the pub. The menu consists of a number of regular dishes such as pad thai, dal, beef rendang and jungle curry as well as regularly changing specials to keep you on your toes. Having tried pretty much all the food at various times I can quite happily proclaim everything to be amazing. The ingredients are all locally sourced where possible and the meat and fish are higher welfare, something that is very important to Jackie. Everything is freshly made and the flavours are just fantastic, a true sign of the passion in Jackie's cooking. The food is also exceptional value with dishes such as the rendang (one of my favourites) priced at around the £6.50 mark with the portions being pretty darn generous. Don't wait until summer, this is definitely a year round beer garden treat!

My favourite is the lentil dal and even though the chef is vegetarian meat eaters are well catered for here. The beef rendang, which comes various ways including over rice, with flatbread or in a bun as a sloppy joe, is delicious. If you really like heat then ask the staff for extra fresh red chilli on top, they will happily oblige. It's not always on but the chai latte is warming and delicious so make sure you order it if it's available. A trip to this trailer for an authentic street food experience is something you just won't get anywhere else in South Manchester. The owner has travelled extensively across Asia and it really shows in the food. It's not like anything I've tasted in a restaurant in the UK. Follow them on one of their social media accounts to see the weekly menu.

My last company would often order lunches together. There are 20 or more set lunches and picnic/lunchbags to choose from, you just choose what each person wants, mark their initials on an order form, and Bob's your uncle! For £5 each person will receive a sandwich, a packet of crisps, a piece of fruit, a piece of cake and a drink. There's a large choice of all items, so no two packed lunches will be the same, and the sandwiches are so well made. If you need set menus for parties, these start at only £4.55 per head, pretty darn cheap, and as far as I know there's no minimum for the amount of people that they'll cater to.

If you are, you won't have many options, so Buzzrocks is the place for you! I don't know any other Carribean take-aways to compare it to, but this place is excellent. It serves Jamaican and Caribbean classics such as Jerk Chicken, Curried Goat and Callaloo Saltfish, all for around £5 and all served with awesome rice 'n' peas or less exciting boiled rice if you aren't very adventurous. It has vegetarian options, which I'm told are excellent (I personally have always chosen goat or saltfish). Additionally, they have a menu entitled 'only 2 pound to go' if you want to pick up a quick snack on the way past or stock up the fridge with delicious Caribbean treats. This menu includes fried dumplings, plantain and a range of patties (beef, chicken, lamb and fish) which are personally my favourite, all for £1. They also do a good portion of northern chips and gravy with a Caribbean twist for just £2. They even do Jamaican deserts. It does have space to sit down if you want to eat there, and though its standard take-away plastic seats, it's perfectly pleasant. It's not as far from Oxford Road as you might think, and well worth a visit. They are also available as caterers for events. Also, Guinness Punch, if you want to find out what it is, go pay them a visit....
