However we did want a little bit of comfort so not having any time whatsoever to do anything ourselves we asked Ella Moore if she could "do something" to make it a bit more homely. Bearing in mind we had a limited budget we didn'texpect miracles. When we walked into the flat when Ella had finished I was truly astonishedat the transformation! It was beautiful!! She managed to make our very ordinary pieces into what now looks like a luxury apartment. Her choice of curtains and colours were excellent - not over the top but very stylish. Try to get there early in the morning especially on weekends: there's usually a queue of cars later on with drivers waiting to get in and disgorge their heaving mounds of rubbish. There is a 'general' skip for anything you've got that doesn't fit in any of the recognised categories, but the place is staffed so don't think you can just offload in here either! The staff are actually very alert and keep a watchful eye on all activities of visitors.

They are fantastic. The quality of the doors, interiors and fittings are excellent. The fitting is absolutely fantastic. Michael and James are perfectionist and we are absolutely delighted. I doubt you can find a nicer person than Michael to provide a quality service and product. The work is excellent and you will not get better even if you pay double. My grandsons had one sliding wardrobe and one with hinged doors. That one in particular was in such a small room, but it's unbelievable the space that has been created. Fitting floor to ceiling has given extra storage space. The other room was sliding doors which have been used to create the look of a full wall of wardrobe. The chimney breast area has been used to Create shelves and drop down desk. My Grandson is absolutely delighted and the room looks so neat and tidy. Definitely recommended.

Not as isolated as the apartments nor as bonkers as Castle Irwell, this campus-based hall of residence enjoys such close proximity to the main university buildings that students can fall out of bed and into lectures within minutes. While students don't have the luxury ensuites of Constantine, they each have a washbasin in their room and the twelve-bedroom houses can be home to 168 university-dwellers. Again, Horlock's selling point is definitely its central location. It occupies the same square as the Blackwells bookshop, the HSBC bank and the cute little general store that sells the Hershey and Reece's stuff. There's a pretty campus green just outside too which leads to Constantine, its sister hall, and like all Salford accommodation gym membership and broadband internet are included free of charge along with a weekly cleaner, a launderette, out of hours support, security and content insurance. The problem here is that car parking is far from free, due to the campus location. Remember, the staff have to park there too. Horlock's an undergraduate only block and it's definitely a great starter for first years. The large houses mean it's easy to make friends and if you wind up with great housemates, you can get involved in bonding activities such as taking turns in cooking and sharing meals. A bit of a tip here - everyone turns up with a toaster and a kettle, so you might want to hold off on those unless you're planning on grilling teacakes and making brews in your room whilst still under your duvet. Horlock's a classier choice than Castle Irwell if you want a more university-centric halls of residence experience.

It's easily possible to…read morepay well into five figures for a new bathroom and when we decided to go with them we know we were splashing out (!). Having said that, in general terms in life you get what you pay for, and that's certainly true here: the proprietor is a fantastic bathroom/bedroom designer and we are delighted with the quality of the bathroom we now have. Langleys don't do tiles: they have their own special equivalent called Versatil which comes in a single bespoke pieces -- you can get an idea of what this looks like from their website. It costs more, but it's so much better than a tiled finish -- (a) it looks better, and (b) there's no grouting so the cleaning's better too. This is typical of their approach: they compete on quality, not price. The shop is worth a visit as the showrooms they have there give a good reflection of what you're likely to get. The customer service is good too: once you go with them they'll sort out everything for you and make sure you're reasonably well looked after all the way. The workmen they employed to do our bathroom were excellent and left the place clean, tidy and safe each night. In short, if you've got the money, investigate Langleys: they're very good.
