When you're living in Stuttgart, you've got few choices to fly. Drive/train to Frankfurt or Zurich or...Stuttgart. Pro - you're able to easily access a lot of places in Europe quite easily. Most of the staff is quite helpful. Con- parking, rental cars (sooo many garages), security is hardcore (which is good but they're sticklers for liquids, clear bags, etc), and security line! Pro-tip: if your ticket shows terminal 3, they're all connected! This is what I have for the time being but it lacks lounges and is pretty busy. Maybe a train to another airport if you have the time. read more

The airport as such is good, no complaints. It is clean, functional and efficient. Shops and restaurants offer a good range of goods and food to cater for the majority, I would think. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The big let down is the most unfriendly and often impertinent staff at the security gates. I think they forget that passengers are actually their customers and should be treated as such. Instead, they must think we are a crowd of kids. I travel a lot, and I have never come across anything like it, today was extremely offensive. As a suggestion, why don't you send a member or two of management as "mystery passengers"? To get the full experience, pretend you don't understand everything, just as it happened today next to me with an elderly gentleman. And the behaviour I experienced and witnessed had nothing to do with being busy. We are all busy in our jobs and travelling is often part of it. To risk loosing customers is self damaging and also affects colleagues and many other people. Perhaps a few simple training sessions help. In particular the crew on T2 from this morning (24th March around 9.30 am) would definitely benefit from an imminent session. Unbelievably rude, unhelpful and unfriendly. read more

You can access any part of the airport from any of the gates, so just choose whichever gate has the shortest waiting time. I was actually a bit taken aback by how lax security is how, compared to how it is back in the US. No one checked my ID and we didn't have to remove any liquids or electronics from our bag. I had the nagging concern that literally anyone could just walk through as long as they showed a boarding pass, regardless of whether or not it belonged to them or was actually valid. The airport itself is conveniently located right a few minutes walk from the U-banh stop. Unfortunately, no water fill station that I could find so I had to buy an expensive bottle of water instead from one of the available kiosks. read more

First time flying out of Stuttgart. Lots of walking from wherever you've entered the airport. I didn't have to go to checkin at the airlines desk since I had just a carryon (Ryanair). I arrived 2 hours early. Airport was busy at 4:00 am. Security check was quick. Only needed my boarding pass to use at kiosk to enter the que. One bag one tray were the instructions. Nothing in your pockets. There was a passport check station that was unmanned so I zipped past that to find my gate. When boarding call happens they check your passport. By my gate there was a busy coffee shop. Nearby plenty of shops willing to take your money. read more

Pro Tip: You can go through ANY security screening, regardless of your gate. Don't wait in a long line at Gate-1 when the line at Gate-2 is much smaller. They're ALL connected on the other side of security. Easy to get around airport. Clean and lots of food options. read more

Airport is not to big and easy to get to. You can drive or catch the train it's not a major airport like Frankfurt so you normally have to connect to another airline. The customer service is not the best but that's normal here in Europe. This airport has many good shops and a lot places to eat. They even have smoke lounges. Stuttgart is a very clean and extremely easy to get in and out of... the flights to/from are limited but I do find that the flight times, when available are extremely convenient. This airport, as with most German airports really have security and throughout down to a science. The only thing really lacking at this airport is the dining options. Nevertheless, if your travels bring you to Stuttgart, this airport will absolutely flow you in and out nicely. read more

Worst airport EVER. The security agents are incredibly unkind. They are not patient with those who are traveling from other countries and have different security rules. The agents will yell at you in German if you are unclear of the rules and don't understand what they are asking of you. If you are not from Germany do whatever you can to skip this airport. read more

My family flew in from the US, 15+ hours of travel time. Land at Stuttgart After a 1 Hour delayed departure. Original time for arrival 20:05 it is now 23:00. I had to ask a customs rep that came out what was going on to find out it was lightning in the area. I had been out here for over an hour already. No rain maybe a flash ever 20+ minutes. It took them over an hour and half to actually announce the reason. They said due to a thunderstorm. I guess it is okay to lie if they can't see it is bone dry outside! When your customers can't do anything about it, why worry about customer service right? read more

Stuttgart Airport is A-OK. It's medium-sized. You could walk from one end of the terminal to the other in a few minutes. There are no moving sidewalks or other transportation, just your feet. It's modern and clean. There are a few of your typical touristy souvenir shops and a few cafe type places to get something to eat. It can get pretty crowded around the departure gate area when the time gets close for your plane to board. Thankfully, I've always gotten on and off planes via a jetway at this airport, not like Frankfurt where your plane will frequently be parked on the tarmac and you have to ride a bus to and from the terminal. The lounges are upstairs here (Lufthansa and a couple of others) and fairly small, but nice. read more

Not a giant airport by any means so it's efficient and security was quick and painless. I've had flights in and out of here on a number of occasions and never encountered any real issues. Deplaning on the tarmac in the rain wasn't a pleasant experience ya last trip in but they did wait until the rain lightened up before opening the door so the few steps to board the bus wasn't to bad. Everything is close by I always grab something to eat before departing the airport so I don't have to stop once I'm driving. read more

Stuttgart airport doesn't fail to disappoint time and time again. Why are workers in this airport so cranky? Expect the terminal be incorrect on ticket versus in actuality. I have also come to expect to be told that my carryon is too big and has to be checked in for a fee, despite fitting into the measurements exactly. And all this with sour face. I find overall German customer service very poor-so this is not an exception. However, when I do get good customer service I take for granted elsewhere-I am very pleasantly surprised. The layout of the airport is somewhat poor as well. You have to walk a bit to rental car pick up dragging all the luggage without carts. The pavement on the way has so many bumps and breaks that the luggage consistently gets stuck. A better design would be more efficient. read more

3.5 stars but rounding down. The signs here are a little confusing, and we couldn't find a place to put our luggage cart back. Also. There aren't very many food options unlike at Heathrow. At least their Customs line moved quickly, but they do ask you questions like where you are staying and the reason for your visit. This is a clean airport with shops for all sorts of things. The "grab-and-go" food is available towards the entrance of the airport. If a traveller is in a hurry, they'll easily miss the 'quick food' options. There is also a Burger King upstairs which is a nice way to get something fast before your flight. Each of my flights to and from Stuttgart Airport have been pleasant experiences. The workers seem to be efficient so far. It's a rather comfortable place to arrive early and enjoy a meal or some coffee up until your check-in time. read more

And I thought my flight was expensive... I expected something bigger, to be honest. It's all clean, modern, with lots of windows, but it's all really small. As soon as you pass the security checks (which were really fast, due to few travelers and an overload of staff), you can find some shops and "restaurants", but only few. I had to spend quite a few hours here, so I was a bit trapped...and bored! And hungry! So I figured I'd go and buy myself a sandwich, couldn't be that expensive! Or so I thought! I walked back and forth, and eventually ended up spending 7 € on a bread roll with ham and cheese, seriously? All that, coupled with the fact that you have to take the train for 30 minutes to get here from the city center...this is definitely not my favourite airport! Nevertheless, there are quite a few flights going from here, that are hundreds of Euros cheaper than if you fly from other places, so I guess I'll come back anyway... Bottom line: * Clean & modern * Very little to do (few shops and cafes) * Ridiculously expensive (at least the food is) * Often cheaper flights, depending on the airline, than other major airports read more

Most flights are within europe, other than the 1 daily delta flight to Atlanta. Unfortunately, many gates require you to use a bus to get to a remote stand. This often causes delays. read more

The Flughafen airport in Stuttgart is a pretty nice airport. I don't know if that's just because it is smaller than the airports at home that makes it a great airport, but I have had a great experience here both times that I have visited Stuttgart. The customs officers are friendly and the airport was not very crowded. There are ATMs just outside of the customs areas, coffee shops, a market, and the rental car kiosks. There are many places in Stuttgart that do not take cards so stop at the ATM and save yourself some trouble. read more

Stuck at the airport due to a crash on the runway, which if you search the web, is very common here. My mother asked the staff for a voucher as others were receiving such and after sitting for three hours here, she decided to see if we could receive some vouchers also. The airport staff- not airline staff - was very rude to her, the paying customer during a lockdown rather than accommodating her. The airport rep back talked to my mother and when mom asked for her name the lady responded that she would CERTAINLY NOT GIVE HER NAME. How rude. The staff aren't very service friendly. This is adequate, but not an airport to enjoy. I didn't find any grab-n-go food. Everything I saw was a sit down restaurant where you ordered off a menu. I didn't want to take that kind of time. I was at gate 343, which is one of the international gates for BA. Good: * clean * efficient * easy to get around * immigration is quick and easy Bad: * didn't see any power points * no quick food * shops are monotonous and predictable--basically the same shop several times over. * no free WiFi. A small airport, but built to a high standard thanks to the disproportionate number of business travellers which pass through. Fast, efficient, and very well equipped. My only objection is that the business lounges are a bit ho-hum; I usually hang around at a cafe until I need to board. Note that fast food lovers need to visit the Burger King landside, in the terminal, and the McDonalds lies on the other side of the parking lot. I love this airport. It's small enough for me to feel like i know it well and can easily find my way around, but big enough to be a proper international airport. They offer free wifi if i'm not mistaken and the staff isn't as bad as in other airports in Europe. When flying in, the suitcases always waited for me on the belt (although that could have been due to the long waiting time in the passport control) so they are quick and efficient. Flying out, it's easy to reach from Tübingen or Konstanz via bus and from Stuttgart via train. read more

I flew here via budget carrier german wings from London. It's a small airport, I imagine much smaller than those in Berlin and Frankfurt, but fast and efficient nonetheless. Easy to navigate which is a big plus and modern design as well. Not many food options, limited shopping, no free wifi. If I was spending any amount of time here that would be a major bummer. However my time here was very short as we only arrived about 1 hour before our flight departure. I can't comment on the transport options to the city center here as I was fortunate enough to have family picking us up right outside the front doors, but seems as though other reviewers are less than impressed with the pricey transport options. read more

Long lines at Delta. Long lines at security. It's very easy to get to if you come by the S-Bahn from Stuttgart. The airport seems clean and well lit. If you are heading to the US get ready for multiple security points asking ridiculous questions. read more

I've only gone through this particular Flughafen twice but they have been efficient each and every time. They have been really helpful and accommodating and one always likes to see that. Partly very unorganized. You better know where you need to go, otherwise you should bring a lot of time with you. The 150-ish passengers of our flight were being dealt with by only 2 immigration officers, the poor crew had to rely on their passengers to step to the front of the line as they do not have a crew line at this airport. read more

Small to mid-sized 4-terminal airport on the outskirts of Stuttgart. Easy to get to by train, sub and car, as it has its own underground station and several parking lots around it. Thanks to Stuttgart's latest infrastructure project Stuttgart 21 there soon will be a direct train connection between downtown and the airport. The terminals are clearly split depending on the destinations reached by the flights taking off from them. Each of them includes a variety of shops, bars and restaurants in the visitor as well as the passenger area. Most of them also have a plane observation deck. It is clean and makes a good impression at first sight (at the second, too). The employees are nice and in a pretty decent command of english. Have been here a bunch of times and couldn't really find anything to complain about. Especially not since apparently in the summer they organize parties in the airport area and they're supposed to be bomb. 5*****-rating! read more

The Stuttgart Airport is not as big as the Frankfurt one, but it has everything you need. Friendly staff, ok snack stands and shops and clean facilities. Since it's a smaller airport, there really isn't anything special or eventful about it, but I never felt uncomfortable or unpleasant. It's also very easy to reach the S Bahns, about two to three minutes if you know where you are going. It could use a little bit more of color or something more "Stuttgart" about it, but as for the functions, it's well maintained and helpful. read more

My wife and I just returned a week ago from a 10 day driving vacation along with another couple who had never been to Europe before. The two of us have been several times and this was the third time we have arrived and departed from the Stuttgart airport as we usually use Frankfurt. Our two prior experiences with Stuttgart were very satisfactory and it is much smaller and not as crowded as Frankfurt. Our most recent trip, as we were departing to come home, left a very bad taste in our mouths. I realize that flying is no longer fun anymore with the security hassles we have to put up with thanks to 9/11 but our recent experience was over the top insofar as the way we (me and wife) were treated. We entered the initial security area as we proceeded to our Delta gate. We each had one carry-on bag with each being packed full of fragile items purchased during our stay. We had carefully packed each of the bags to get all items in and barely got all of the packages into the bags. The security folks had a field day with us and unpacked every item in each of our bags. They seemed to go out their way to give us a hard time and once they had dismantled our bags it took us a good 10 to 15 minutes to put everything back together again. One female security person actually held up an empty plastic 3 oz. bottle we had in one of the bags and wanted to know what it was for. It was clearly an authorized TSA bottle for liquids although it was empty. I just told her to throw it away if it was a problem and she tossed it into a trash can! We finally got our stuff back together and rushed down the concourse to gates 109/110 to board our plane and within 100' of our gate there was another security checkpoint set up. Sure enough, they pounced on us again doing the same and more than was done at the first checkpoint. This time they took the two of us behind a screened area and brushed us down with something to check for explosive residue and a full body search. They took our shoes away and brought back for some reason and I became visibly upset and asked what in the world this second check was all about when we just went through this back toward the terminal. One of the security people spoke up and said that this second checkpoint was the doing of "our airline", obviously referring to Delta. I personally believe that personnel from the first checkpoint specifically called down to the second checkpoint and instructed to put us through the wringer again as we were not happy with the treatment at this first stopl They thought that they would just show us a thing or two. I worte a blistering e-mail to Stuttgart airport via their website a week ago but have received no response. We will never fly into or out of Stuttgart again due to this experience and will only use Frankfurt from now on. read more
