For my husband and I, the hunt is half the fun when we shop for antique and/or vintage items. Plus, it's hard for us to resist a good antique and vintage store. One vintage vendor we purchased items from in the area, mentioned he has a booth here. And so, here we were on a late Saturday afternoon in Sturbridge, MA ready for the hunt. The main floor is filled with items like glass, China, small scale home decor pieces, jewelry and things. Bottom floor has more smaller pieces- but larger furniture like trunks, shelves, wooden tables, etc take over this part of the store. Luckily for us, the vendor we had met earlier in the day, happened to have a booth here selling his pieces. In our case- or rather Sturbridge Antiques', if a particular vendor has a booth here, give these folks the vendor's name and NOT their booth #- as it's easier for them to locate their space by name instead since Sturbridge A. has numerous stall/booth vendors. There's a wide selection of antiques and vintage items- so definitely take your time if this is your thing. I have been a regular customer of this group shop for many years. I have spent a boat load of money in this shop. The prices charged here are, in my opinion, usually higher than market value but fair prices are sometimes found. Today I was only able to find one item for $9.00. My credit card was refused because the store has a ridiculous minimum purchase requirement on credit card sales. They have lost a long time customer. I will never return. read more

My family often stops here on our trips up to NH for the holidays. It's a good diversion, a fun place to look around, and thank baby Jesus they have a bathroom (a godsend for long car trip sufferers). One of us always manages to find something to buy here however, which takes the guilt off from mooching bathroom privileges. The staff is very kind and helpful. They stay out of your way when you're browsing, but they're ready with information if needed, and they can put things aside for you as you look around. Their selection is not only huge, but always changing. There are 4 large showrooms - two on the main floor and two downstairs. Each is divided into sections/cubbies by seller. There's no rhyme or reason to the organization past that, so you'll stumble over random jewelry, toys, paintings, and knick knacks everywhere. I've seen the weirdest stuff in random corners (see photos), which is what's so much fun. You may know your way around the place, but it's a treasure hunt every time. read more

Pretty awesome. I do agree with the other reviews about prices being high, but it's old old stuff that should be expensive. The staff was very nice, but they are always trying to take your items to the front. If I'm trying to compare prices in booths I would like my items. We went around 2 pm on a Saturday and it was fairly busy. Good for the store! Bad for shoppers to get a good look without someone else breathing on you. It's worth a look when you are in the area! Racist employees, my boyfriend and I were looking for something for our house and I passed my partner (a man of a darker complexion) an antique stationary package for $3.00 because I had to use the restroom. An employee immediately ripped it out of my boyfriends hand to take to the front. We have more than enough money to buy several items in the store but will not be returning again until their respect for customers of all backgrounds improves. read more

This group shop is definitely worth the drive from Boston - it's just about an hour down the Pike and with other nearby shops you can make a day of it. The shop is huge - spread out over two floors. Over the years the quality of so many antiques shops has really suffered but that's not the case at Sturbridge Antique Shops. It's packed with good quality dealers offering wares from a variety of periods and styles without much if any junk and no booths filled with reproductions or used video tapes as you find at far too many formerly decent shops. Furniture, smalls, china, books, textiles, etc, etc - the merchandise is varied enough that most collectors will find things to their liking. Displays are attractive and the shop is a pleasure to meander through. The staff won't bother you but will happily bring your purchases to the counter while you continue to shop and are more than willing to help or answer questions. I read comments in other reviews about high prices. Truthfully that's never been my impression of this shop. It's not flea market prices but prices aren't exorbitant relative to other shops. You can spend a few dollars or a few hundred depending on what you're looking for. As with most group shops an educated buyer just might find a bargain or two - that's the beauty of a group shop - nobody knows everything about all types of antiques. Cruise the aisles regularly and eventually you'll find a treasure whose seller didn't recognize what it was or what it was worth. One thing I truly enjoy about this shop is how many open booths there are instead of rows upon rows of locked cases. I understand why so many shops have switched to cases since shoplifters are a terrible problem but booths simply aren't that much fun. I want to see antiques up close - to pick them up and examine them without the hassle of getting someone to unlock the case and show me the one item I've decided is worth the trouble. I imagine there's good security at the shop and the shop is well staffed but happily they're not intrusive and you don't get the feeling, like you do at some shops, that every customer is veiwed as a potential thief. Hello, I just visited this store for the first time. I was very excited as I love antique shops and me and my fiancé were looking for a new piece of furniture. We entered the store at 4:48pm (12 minutes before close) aware that we would be quick and instead of a friendly greeting we were sternly told that we only had 10 minutes to look and to make it quick. As we Walked through every single employee we went past told us that they closed soon and we should finish up. It really felt like they did not want our business. First let me clarify that this is NOT a flea market. Not sure where previous reviewer got their information from. This is a vintage\ antique shop that one would be hard pressed to duplicate. True some prices are super high however the age of the piece plays a part. I've been to some places where crap reproductions costs just as much. I've been coming here for years and will continue coming. If you are looking for something truly primitive or antique, this is your place. The staff have always been friendly enough but I don't expect them to roll out the red carpet for me either. I never leave empty handed. read more

One of the best group shops around. As a dealer of good antiques I always manage to find a few items with plenty of profit still to be made. Plan on arriving at least an hour before closing as it takes at least 45 minutes to visit all the booths plus check out. I visit plenty of shops all over the U.S. and this is high on my list. I made a purchase today regarding costume jewelry. When I paid for my items; all were packed in placed in bags. Out of the ten pieces; one was missing and I had only an empty bag with a price tag. I called the store reminding them when I was there and what I had purchased. The response wasn't in my favor. Really, would I take the time to make the call for such a small amount of money if I had the item? I've shopped there many times before I became a dealer and many more times as a dealer. Moving forward, I will always check my purchases before they are wrapped and placed in bags. Not pleased the way this issued was handled. read more

This place is great! Lots to look at and dream about. However, if you are like me looking for a deal on something, this place will not work for you. All the dealers know what they have and things are priced very high. I like to go on the hunt and find something fantastic and find out later its worth a lot. Lately I found some Castleton China dirt cheap elsewhere and later found out the pattern was very rare. Here, they KNOW things are rare/desirable/collectable - so no bargains here. However, if you are looking for something particular and have no problem paying retail, you will be fine. One section of the store had antique and vintage clothing. Fur stoles, victorian velvet jackets etc. It was fun to think about the people who wore these things and cherished them. read more

I did not buy anything here, but was compelled to write a review based upon the level of detail this place has in regards to antiques. This place is the real deal, and they have a lot to choose from. Just be prepared to bring your life savings with you. That is not to say that there are no inexpensive trinkets here, but this is a more "serious" antique shop with half of it's stuff showcased behind museum glass. I guess you get what you pay for. This place is huge! It has two different floors of all different vender booths. They have everything, furniture, clothing, smalls, photos, china, grandfather clock, postcards and so much more.. You can spend a day here just looking around. The prices I am pretty sure are picked by the different venders, so some have better deals than others. They are antiques and you will pay for it, but lets be real its an antique shop not an estate sale. read more

Out of all the antique stores in Central Mass I find this shop the best, not sure what the guy meant that said they had flea market stuff, I only found very good quaility Vintage and Antique goods at t his shop. Nice and clean, displayed so you can see the items. I love vintage jewelry and vintage hats, they had a big selection. The prices are retail however I have found many bargains after taking my time and looking carefully at prices. They do give dealers a 10% discount so if you have a tax number bring it with you. When you walk in it does not look that big but it has four big rooms and two floors. I love the old theater looking lights in the upstairs rooms. They have plenty of staff to help you out which is not always the case at other shops I have visited. I would definatley recommend this store for a afternoon treasure hunt or to just learn about Antiques and Vintage items. read more

As dealer I shop here once a week. There are some very active dealers in here and I have had some GREAT buys. I buy higher end items, not junk. The staff are super friendly and helpful-never do you feel you're an inconvenience, and the owner Karen is great. I found this shop on my way home from the HUGE Brimfield Antiques show YEARS ago and I have been going back ever since. Out of all the New England shops I have been to (And I have been to them ALL) I find this one has the cleanest, neatest, best lit and nicely displayed booths of them all. They consistently offer better quality merchandise without the repros or flea market items one finds at most group shops. If you are a good shopper you can even find "sleepers"....(I have purchased a nice strand of cultured pearls with a 14K clasp for only $6.00 as well as a signed Lawrence Foss sterling pin for $15.00). The staff is friendly and helpful (with the exception of one older grumpy lady I have only encountered once). If you go during the week of Brimfield (May, July Sept) expect it to be much busier than usual. The plus side is that most of the dealers put out their best wares at this time and the shop stays open till 8:00 pm on those nights...(call first to be sure). The downside is that every sale is hand written (no computer???) and sometimes there is a line to check out. Sturbridge Antiques Shop is a great place to shop, but I like it because it is an even better place to buy! read more

My favorite local destination for great home finds and antique treasures! The staff are friendly and helpful while at the same time not overbearing. The offerings of products is remarkable and on each visit there is new merchandise. Over the years I have purchased items small to large and have always been pleased with the quality and price.
