The staff welcomed us, let us make tea, then showed us our salt cave room. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, with red salt lamp lighting, trickling fountains, and ambient music playing. They gave us buckets and shovels for the kids to play in the sand, and they enjoyed that as well as the zero gravity chairs. I could've easily taken a nap during my session! I did notice I got a bit of a headache that evening, which I believe was related. But I could also tell my breathing had shifted (positively) and I think stuff in my sinuses maybe shifted as I'd been sick leading up to my visit. The headache was gone by next day. All in all, I'd go back again for another session! It's a really relaxing atmosphere and did impact my breath/sinuses.

Music was so relaxing and peaceful. Madison was at the desk and she told me to help myself to some tea or water. She was very helpful and very informative so I really did appreciate that especially this being my first visit. She showed me to my room where I was to do the 45 min infrared sauna. She helped me with my Bluetooth connection. I was ready to go after a quick trip to the ladies room. The 45 min was exactly what I needed. It felt so good and so amazing to have that time to myself. I doxed off for a few.. I love that the sauna beeps very mildly to let you know there's 5 min left. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit most especially because it was a wonderful surprise that they had Easter eggs hidden and the sign said to find one so I did and it said my next appointment was free! I'll definitely be purchasing some more after that! I definitely recommend giving this a try. Self care is so important. The ambiance of the entire environment is very serene and calming. Definitely a nice little spot to get away from the chaos.

There are many monks who live on the premise and help take care of the property. The service is usually on Sundays starting at 10am and afterwards, they serve a vegetarian lunch for free as well. You leave your shoes outside on the front porch and men usually sit on the left and women on the right. For those that don't speak or understand Vietnamese, there are new awesome headphones you can wear to hear what everyone is saying translated into English. You can speak with the monks as some do speak in English. They also offer a class on Sundays that teach Vietnamese for anyone wanting to learn. It is mostly younger 2nd and 3rd generation Vietnamese kids, but anyone is welcome. This place has come a long way in the past 25 years or so from services being held in someone's living room to moving to this property on the corner of 30th and Emerson. It's expanded due to its very charitable group of followers. services and celebrations were held in an old garage and then finally a few years ago the new larger building was built. the property is beautiful mostly in the spring and summer time. any Vietnamese or buddhist holiday there is a special celebration and definitely worth coming to check out, especially Mother's day, Lunar New Years, Buddha's birthday, and the Fall Celebration. Just remember to bow your head out of respect to the buddha, the monks, and really anyone older than you. You'll notice with the sound of the gong it is usually a sign to bow down and pay your respects. They will understand if you don't but it's just the respectable thing to do when entering. The temple does great things for the vietnamese kids in the community and always accept donations, and are doing fundraising events. All food served there is vegetarian and during the large celebrations you can buy some to take home as well! Food is delicious and many times you won't even miss the meat.

I am happy to say that 8 students were present at Shane Photography for the first session of Inner Peace Yoga's new Tuesday evening Beginner I yoga class - including myself and hubby. Inner Peace Yoga owners Carol and Charles Crenshaw teach in the Himalayan tradition, which is what I first experienced years ago and still one of my favorite methods of practice. While vinyasa flow, power yoga and hot yoga seem to be all the rage these days - and they certainly serve a great many individuals - I prefer a slower pace where postures are held and/or repeated. I also like to incorporate breathwork and meditation into my practice. That is why I enjoyed IPY's new Carmel class so much - it really reminded me of what made me interested in yoga in the first place - when I left I felt at peace, more focused and de-stressed. Normally a late-nighter, I was ready for bed at 10:30 and slept like a log. I also tend to favor IPY's approach of building one's practice over time In other words, if you're totally new to yoga, you begin at the beginning and establish a foundation of yoga postures, breathing awareness and technique and movement. Then, as you feel comfortable and your instructor thinks you are ready, you progress to more challenging classes. In this way, you are less likely to get injured or simply become disillusioned with your practice. Plus, you really learn about yoga from the inside-out, in my opinion, which makes it much more possible to develop a home practice. Another bonus: IPY offers classes, workshops and other events on complementary subjects such as meditation, ayurveda, chanting and the like, as well as retreats. These are particularly helpful if you are more interested in expanding your yoga practice beyond postures on the mat :-)

The Indiana Buddhist Center is home to a very traditional lineage of Tibetan Buddhism thanks, I'm…read moresure, to the Dalai Lama's ties to Indiana. The Center is located just off Post on 10th Street in a fairly average-sized suburban home converted for the purpose. The house is very small and that makes for an almost claustrophobic feel as you acclimate to being there. Service there felt more like meeting in someone's living room than a specific congregational space. I've attended only a couple of services here. Everyone was very warm and inviting and the conversations tend to be pretty heady and interesting. The practice seems solid and should be fairly familiar to anyone experienced with meditation. This group seems less interested in catering to newcomers to Buddhism, in my experience, but that might just be my perception. I should clarify that I'm not a newcomer in the least, so maybe they were just better at not treating me like I was. If you're interested in exploring Buddhism and want a very authentic Tibetan experience, this might be the Center for you.

Yes, it it was in portion of a house, instead of a grand temple, but I felt that almost added to the intimacy and focus of mindfulness. The monk who lead the teaching was incredibly alert and thoughtful in intention and the translator did an excellent job translating to English. As he was teaching, he was looking at and taking consideration of every individual in the room. The teaching was deep and incredibly insightful. I agree that this session would be tricky for a newbie and I probably would have been lost had I not read several books about Buddhism in the past. But, from what I understand they have implemented a "Intro" series on another day that would help someone get up to speed.

I believe her name was Martha. Her cues were so clear that I never had to look at her -- I could just close my eyes and focus on myself and the flow. She also cued some interesting and slightly challenging poses, which I enjoyed. Second, the class itself. This outdoor class that I got to experience on a beautiful and auspicious morning was completely free. Free! I didn't even have to register online or anything. I just showed up to the park, climbed to the top of a hill, and placed my yoga mat down on the grass. I think it is so cool, and so in the spirit of yoga, that Roots and Wings offers free outdoor yoga classes to the community. Talk about spreading good vibes! Roots and Wings is practicing what they are preaching. Third, this class that I took was not a one-off. They offer free outdoor classes all summer, plus some in the fall. I will definitely be joining some of the other classes they are offering, and also visiting them in the studio at some point. I can already tell that these guys are my kind of people.

I first took a class when I was in college. There was a guy in one of my classes who positively glowed. You could tell that something good was going on with him. He was positive and serene and energetic all at the same time. And I thought hey, I wouldn't mind having some mojo like that. On his recommendation I took the Art of Living Course and learned Sudarshan Kriya, a breathing practice which my friend had learned. And you know what? I really felt different. I had more energy. More focus. More perspective. And I slept like a baby. I have been doing it almost every day since then. I moved to Indianapolis a few months ago and am thrilled that there's an Art of Living center here. In addition to the Art of Living Course they offer free hour-long yoga and meditation sessions on Wednesday evenings and Saturday late afternoons as part of their "Creating a Stress-Free Indiana" campaign.
