I think we all…read moreknow how difficult it is to find a new stylist even though you have recommendations from friends; not all are a good fit - right?! It has been very difficult for me, I'd been searching for a few years but was never really happy. I wanted a Pixie but I didn't think any of them REALLY listened to me; that is until I cold called Canyon Salon. I have extremely baby fine hair and over the last few years it has thinned out so I was looking for a haircut that made me look like I had more hair but one my thin fine hair would support. I was then assigned to Taylor Gilday. I was nervous at my 1st appt but my philosophy is "hair grows back"... I showed up and immediately was impressed that Taylor was at the front desk waiting for me! She has the most beautiful red hair and her bubbly, friendly personality was like a whole welcoming committee. I'm thinking, this is a good start.... She seats me down at her station and we talk; she's asking me what my thoughts were and we discuss my hair and what I wanted, the problems I have and my concerns. Let me tell you, I'm almost 70 yrs old so I've had a few stylist in my lifetime and I've NEVER had one that took as much time as Taylor did to get to "know" my hair and what I wanted. It was a shock tbh. My previous tries at a Pixie haven't turned out as what I had envisioned, they were, ummm, in a word - bad. When I went to Taylor, I don't know what I was sporting but it certainly wasn't a Pixie by any stretch of the imagination. I was the poster child for "Don't let this happen to you!" I maybe 70 but I don't want to look like an old lady; I still want style. After our extensive talk I asked Taylor what she ultimately thought, was what I was asking for unattainable? She was very honest with me and advised she would need at least 2 tries to get my vision and asked me to trust her and give her the 2 haircuts. I agreed, I had nothing to lose and like I say, it's hair, it'll grow back. She gave me the 1st cut, targeting the areas I had problems with and I walked out with hope. Eight weeks later I went in for the 2nd haircut and left with the BEST haircut I've had in YEARS! I knew right then and there that Taylor was my new "forever" stylist! Taylor is exceptionally good at conversing with her clients; she listens and understands her clients wants, needs, and concerns like no other stylist I've visited and she is amazing at cutting hair. A.MAZ.ING! Contrary to popular belief, Pixies are not an easy style to cut but believe me when I say Taylor knows how to cut a Pixie. And if she can cut a Pixie, she can cut any precision haircut. She is that good! I cannot recommend Taylor Gilday highly enough; I don't know what I would do without her expertise; she's phenomenal!!!

She responded to my inquiry text right away and a few texts later, I was all booked! Her studio is inside the John of Italy Salon. Parking lot is big and right next to entrance, so that's easy. Inside the space are floor to ceiling windows, so there is a ton of natural light, which definitely helps Hidi give you the best, most flawless application. I asked her for brown/golden smokey glam and she absolutely nailed it. Throughout the appointment she would hand me the mirror to check-in and make sure I was happy with how things were progressing, which was super nice. Each time she handed me the mirror, I was more and more in love with her work. By the end of the appointment, I was literally staring at myself in the mirror in awe and feeling/looking like a million bucks. She also did light styling on my hair and gave me soft, gorgeous waves. Honestly, I walked out of the salon, looking like a movie star. The event was super hot and everyone was sweating, but miraculously my makeup stayed put. Thank God Hidi made sure to lock it all in with several finishing sprays -- that definitely saved me. I will absolutely book with Hidi again and I'm so glad I found her. I paid $450 cash for my hair color and clearly asked for no yellow or brassy tones. Unfortunately, Frida only colored the top half of my hair, leaving the underneath and lower lengths completely black and untouched, as you can see in my photos -- live photos I took myself. The top was also yellow/brassy after just one wash. Basically, half the job was never done. I went back and gave her the opportunity to fix it. She scheduled an appointment, then canceled it herself and told me to see another stylist. She never responded to my follow-up message. I also contacted the owner, Kylie, hoping for a solution. After following up myself, I was told there would be no new appointment, no correction, and no refund. That was their final decision. I had previously visited this salon three times with Taylor and had always been happy. What a disappointing experience this time. $450 for unfinished work and absolutely no customer care afterward. She is the only hair stylist I've ever had that isn't afraid to give me what I like to call 'All the layers.' After decades of 'meh' haircuts she DELIVERED. Now I refuse to see anyone else, and refer friends to her when they ask me about my hair. Before Kristen and Salon Rouge I went to quite a few salons and probably paid a lot more than I should have, thinking if I pay top dollar I would get the cut I was after. Nope. Every time I went to get a haircut (I have long hair that goes to mid-torso) I would show the stylist photos of what I wanted - layers and layers I could style into a beautiful, voluminous, layered look, but would always leave with what looked like a trim and a couple longer layers that ended up looking sad and hanging flat. It's honestly been a relief to know I can just go to Kristen and leave with exactly what I'm looking for. Aside from the amazing work she does, she's also great to talk to. Never an awkward or uncomfortable moment (it's the worst when that happens) - she's the type of person you feel like you've known forever, which makes going to see her a fun experience overall!
