I've been coming to Kristen at Salon Rouge for a couple years now, and I can't say enough good things about her! She is the only hair stylist I've ever had that isn't afraid to give me what I like to call 'All the layers.' After decades of 'meh' haircuts she DELIVERED. Now I refuse to see anyone else, and refer friends to her when they ask me about my hair. Before Kristen and Salon Rouge I went to quite a few salons and probably paid a lot more than I should have, thinking if I pay top dollar I would get the cut I was after. Nope. Every time I went to get a haircut (I have long hair that goes to mid-torso) I would show the stylist photos of what I wanted - layers and layers I could style into a beautiful, voluminous, layered look, but would always leave with what looked like a trim and a couple longer layers that ended up looking sad and hanging flat. It's honestly been a relief to know I can just go to Kristen and leave with exactly what I'm looking for. Aside from the amazing work she does, she's also great to talk to. I am writing this review for Jaime at Salon Rogue as she is the only stylist I see. I have been seeing Jaime for almost 16 years now - girl, you KNOW she knows all of my secrets - with the only exception being the time she took off for mat-leave 10 years ago. Jaime is so kind and so personable - she's a really great person! She also is pretty much the only person I trust to color my hair. She is an expert with color and is very honest about what she thinks will look good and what could be a shocking change. I don't know what I would do without her expert eye - on more than one occasion I have brought her photos to replicate the look, and she has had to point out why the photos are different, and really ask me questions to find out what I like about each. My hair often looks great for MONTHS in fact I just posted a photo after a good wash and someone thought I had just gotten it done.. nope, that's Jamie's expert placement that will allow you to go months looking fresh. I don't know how she does it, which is why I'm willing to pay the big bucks for her to do it. Just kidding, Jaime is very reasonably priced especially for the Westlake/to area. Jaime is also the only person that my daughter will see now too and is literally the ONLY person I would trust to add any color to her hair. Salon rogue itself is a very cute and a medium sized salon. There's a manicurist or two who I've never used and there's usually a rack of boutique clothes and accessories to peruse if you feel like it (think birthday and Christmas gifts!). It's always clean and welcoming. She kept talking about how leaving the back is popular right now. Clearly not listening to what the customer wanted. Brittney did the bare minimum with little to no effort. When I asked her to do more with my sides and front, she acted as if I didn't pay her enough to do that. And she refused any of my requests, making up some excuse or just saying I can't do that. Has no regards for a customer (although she talks sweet, it is superficial) c. Lacks basic manners So here is the story: She highlighted my hair... suggested a color that was horrible but thank god I had the sense to not go for it... so I chose my color... then when she cuts my hair she is struggling... "hair grows in a circle .." thats what she said when she couldn't level the hair.... Then when I go home after spending more than $100... I see two streaks (big ones) on my sides which look white... (i have jet black hair)... Apparently she used a toner and didn't apply the color there.... Can you imagine??? So I call her and she has no concern... so I had to ask can you pls color it ... she agrees.... when I go to her... she puts the color and does not wash my hair after coloring... Why???? "I am too booked to wash hair..." OMG.. i felt so ripped off... She DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE ONCE.....on top it when she told me when the color fades you can come again... and I politely said.. I don't think I will be comfortable... all she says is.. "too bad"... Man... how cold can a person be???.... no regards for customers... I am getting married in Camarillo in March, so I was looking for a good local salon for hairstyling for myself and my 4 bridesmaids. I found Salon Rouge via Yelp, and with their fabulous reviews, I thought I had found the right place. I sent an email through their website, and Trish got back to me very quickly. She was super helpful, she got me pricing in a very timely manner and let me know which stylist would be available that day. This is when things went sour. Trish told me that Vicki Garcia would be the stylist I needed to contact. I called Vicki directly on her cell to set up a trial appointment. I left her a message, but I never heard back from her (I waited 4 days for a call back). My maid of honor offered to get in touch with her for me. My MOH called the salon, and was put in contact with Vicki's assistant. Apparently, Vicki was about to go in for some type of surgery, so her assistant took down the information and booked my trial appointment for Saturday, November 10th at 4:00 pm. The next day, my maid of honor got a text from Vicki; she profusely apologized for being absent from the salon when she had called, and said that she can't wait for my trial appointment on the 10th and that she takes pride in her work, yadda yadda. The 10th came and my maid of honor had not received any type of confirmation call or email regarding my appointment. I live in Long Beach, so driving to Thousand Oaks takes about an hour or so. I called at about 1:45 and was directed to Vicki. She basically had no idea who I was. She told me that she had no record of my appointment anywhere. She gave me a story about how the assistant that booked the appointment no longer works for her, but that doesn't explain how Vicki herself confirmed the appointment the next day with my maid of honor. I rescheduled the appointment for the following weekend, but Vicki did not take down any of my information, unless she remembered my name from when I was first on the phone, and unless she took my number from caller ID or something. I'm really disappointed, because Trish had sent me some of Vicki's reference work, and it was right up my alley in terms of what I want for my wedding day. However, every time myself or my MOH has tried to work with Vicki, it turns into kind of a disaster. I will be cancelling my trial appointment, which costs $65 btw, because if I can't count on her to keep track of my trial, I don't want to think about what could happen on my wedding day. read more

Long story short? I would suggest researching the stylist's work that the receptionist sets you up with before letting them cut or color any single hair on your head. I had a bad dye job from a previous salon and had major breakage/porous hair, basically my hair is fried with uneven layers. I called Salon Rouge on a weekday afternoon and asked if they had anyone there that can do an A-line bob. The receptionist set me up with Michelle G. Unfortunately, she did not know how to do this type of haircut. I wish I was informed ahead of time before I spent $62 on a haircut. I showed her pictures of how i wanted my A-line and spoke about my hair issues. She didn't seem to listen. She then proceeded to give me a mushroom hair cut... I again, showed her a picture of what I wanted. An hour and a half later, I come out with several inches cut and a sub par, uneven haircut that I'm now trying to grow out. I would not recommend her for A-lines and I do not like the Enjoy hair products she uses. You need to be real and honest with your customers as well as listen to what THEY want. Highly disappointed, and I have to look at this haircut everyday. read more
