Stott Pilates Studio and Academy located right at Yonge and Bloor at 2 Bloor St E. on the 10th…read morefloor is both a studio where you can take classes as well as an academy where you can become certified in the Stott Pilates method (under the Merrithew brand). The entire 10th floor is occupied by Stott Pilates where there are two separate entrances for either the studio side or the academy side. With the academy, you are able to train and educate yourself on the Stott Pilates method where you can become certified in becoming an instructor and expert in the Stott Pilates method.
This particular review will be only about the Stott Pilates studio as they recently renovated and opened their doors to the public, offering a variety of mat and reformer Pilates classes. I was lucky enough to attend their open house, attend a free class, and tour their studio space as well.
The Pilates studio can be difficult to find but they are the building right at Bloor and Yonge where it connects to the Bloor-Yonge subway. This makes the studio super accessible as you don't even need to step outside if you are coming by public transportation. There are several sets of elevators that take you up to the 10th floor. Once you get off the elevator, you will notice that on either side there are doors to enter the space. For the studio, you would turn right.
Upon entering the studio, the space is welcoming and warm. You're able to see the reformer studio to the left and the mat Pilates studio to your right when you enter the doors. The front desk is where you check in for your classes and the changerooms are right behind the front desk. The change rooms do have lockers as well as 2 private changerooms. There is also a water station inside the changerooms as well. If there are no lockers available in the changerooms, there are additional lockers located in the academy side of the floor. There are 2 fully accessible washrooms on the studio side, however, there is a full bathroom on the academy side. There is no showers available.
For classes, there are a variety of both reformer and mat Pilates classes that you can choose from. For reformer classes you can choose between Athletic Power, Strength Flow, Restore & Release, and Reset 45 classes. For mat Pilates they have Strength Flow, Power Flow, Restore & Renew, Chair Flow, as well as Reset 45 classes. Each of the classes have a small number of participants - in my reformer class there were only 12 people attending.
They also have private classes if that is something you would like to partake in.
In terms of my class, I attended a reformer Pilates Reset 45 class taught by Clara. The Reset 45 class is a blend between Strength Flow and Athletic Power classes where it builds control, stamina, and clarity in a short amount of time. The instructor, Clara, made sure to introduce herself to every participant of class and also made sure that new beginners knew how to use the reformer machine. If you had any injuries she made sure to discuss your options with you prior to class beginning. During class, she had clear instructions and would come around to correct any mistakes or issues with your form. Her instructions were concise and easy to follow; she was also encouraging. It was a lovely low impact class that I enjoyed. After class we were given wipes to wipe down our machines.
Overall, the space is accessible, the studio is well lit, and classes are low impact, perfect for anyone who wants to start or continue their fitness journey!
