In case you didn't already know, the Auckladn Research Centre is the place to go in Auckland for free advice about genealogy research, getting access to online family history databases, and accessing the library's tonnes and tonnes of old stuff, like newspapers and photos. The talks are a good way to see if you might be interested in family history research without committing yourself at all, or for people who are more advanced in the game. Also, they're an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people!

They've both been German natives which is great to see in a language school because they're able to teach you so much more about the culture and country. Although the classes are quite pricey at over $30 a class, I've been to other classes before and I don't think I'd go anywhere else in Auckland. We had just finished eating on Queen Street and were wandering around the area when we stumbled…read moreupon this art gallery museum. We decided to walk in and I'm glad we did. The first floor is free and features several exhibitions, so we took our time roaming around. One of the main exhibits focused on Māori art, and we spent about an hour exploring the pieces and learning more about Māori history in New Zealand. It was genuinely informative and beautifully presented. There was also a display by a Korean artist on the first floor. I don't quite remember the theme, but the design of the house-like structure had some Chinese influences, which made it visually interesting. Overall, if you have some time to spare and want to cool off from the scorching sun, this gallery is definitely worth a visit. Bonus points for clean restrooms, too!
