This is a great Aveda salon. George helped me feel welcome the minute I walked in for my first appointment. He offered me tea or water while I settled in. The space itself is well decorated, inviting and relaxing, with subtle music in the background. London spent time analyzing my hair texture, face structure and hair care routine. He also asked questions about what I wanted from my cut and carefully planned a style that would suit me. Next was a head massage for relaxation, wash and conditioner, then the cut. He is a very, very skilled hair stylist. My hair is very curly and very thick and relatively difficult to cut and style. He cut it so it looks amazing and will be easy to care for on a day to day basis. I would highly recommend both the salon and London. The worst hair experience of my life. I missed my friend's dinner because I had product dripping from my hair upon leaving this salon. The friendly vibe was overshadowed by the discrimination I experienced. I was instructed to say I have "ethnic hair" when booking, as she did not have experience with this kind of style. I clearly walked in with my natural hair so, I should not have to say that. I scheduled a wash & go and left being charged for two blow outs ($120). I'm upset in having to write this review, however it needs to be known that this salon can NOT execute trendy hairstyles (their highest level stylist at that). I was looking to go from my bright blonde to a warm blonde "tortoise shell/ecaille" look and instead I left with a red based brown and white tips. WORST thing ever after sitting there for 4:30 hours since she had already messed up after the first round of color/foils. The sad part is after 5 minutes of me explaining that this looks nothing like the picture I wanted (she thought it looked great), their fix was that they'd throw me to a novice stylist the next evening and pop in some highlights (NOT the right solution). Previously I used to go to the salon for highlights only. They messed up once, but I had found Katherin executed normal highlights well, but at a premium price. After this coloring job though, I will never go back. On the bright side, after 5:30 hours of dedicated work by Taylor and Carrie, Mikel's Paul Mitchell experience was able to save my hair. Check them out in south Tampa. Studio Cabello was going to charge $155 for the job, with an extra 20-30 to blow dry. Mikel's was a life-saver and it only cost me $85 that included a dry. read more

I have been seeing Brian for about a year now and he is awesome! He is great coloring my grey difficult hair. His haircuts and blowouts are always beyond what I ask ever expect. He's sweet and kind and understands what I want each time I visit him. And he's quick to get my touch ups done when I'm in a hurry. This place gets two stars instead of one 1 ONLY because they were really great with my one year old daughter who had to come with me to the salon. Otherwise, I will never go back. I went there in person to make the appointment so they could see my hair and hear my requests before pairing me up with a stylist. Based on what I wanted and what my hair already looked like, they recommended I go to London. I have really long hair and wanted short bangs. At the same appointment, I wanted gray coverage. That was it. I explained that I needed someone who would listen to me and do BOTH services on the same day. What happened instead was this: I told him I wanted bangs because of the breakage of my hair after my pregnancy. He told me to use a paste to lay down the hair around my crown instead and refused to cut bangs into my hair. I told him I wanted a trim up if he wasn't going to do the bangs. He said he was too experienced for that and it would cost me over $100 to get a general cut but that he would have one of the girls do it. Well, the girl he talked to didn't have time, so I didn't even get my hair trimmed that day. I told him that I wanted my hair lightened a bit when he did the gray coverage and to leave my highlights alone. He said my hair was "too dark to lighten" and that he'd have to do that in SEVERAL appointments if I EVENTUALLY wanted lighter hair. I have never heard that before. I've gone from black to almost blonde in one step before and it was fine. He seemed to indicate that "his" products wouldn't do that. Instead, he suggested I get a "color correction" done on the highlights. I had just gotten the highlights eight weeks before and paid a lot for them and thought they were fine. After a lot of back and forth he assured me I needed the color correction and that it wouldn't darken my highlights. What did the color correction do? Destroyed my highlights. My hair is all brown now - no more blonde at all. Finally, I asked him to put the pink streaks back in my hair that had faded since my last appointment (with someone else) and he said that if I wanted a "wild" color in my hair, I could go to Sally's, pick up the color, and put it in myself. He didn't want to do it because pinks fade too fast and he didn't want me coming back every two weeks just for that. When the color correction was done, I told him I thought it was too dark. He said, "It is wet. It will lighten as it dries." He didn't even style my hair! I left with wet hair - and I know why. It didn't lighten at all and he knew it wouldn't. I'm never going back there. Went for a specific cut and dye and they failed on both counts. Very dissatisfied. read more

I first went to Studio Cabello in 2009 for my very first coloring. I spoke in detail about what I wanted to achieve and what I did NOT want to happen. After spending every day of the summer working a beach job, I wanted my incoming hair to match the rest of my head. I did not want to look fake, frosted, or platinum. The Junior Stylist (Kara) worked with the owner/manager and they chose a formula and then applied it only to my roots. This formula blended with the rest of my sun-kissed, beach blond hair that I didn't need a toner. I had no band! When I lived in Tampa, this was my go-to salon for all my hair and waxing needs. Since moving, I've had the pleasure of discussing at length a hair disaster I had out here at Aveda Institute Phoenix with Angie Perion Nelson. The Studio Cabello senior color specialist, Jennifer Sharp, explained to me what happened to my hair and lifted my spirits when she let me know it could be fixed. I highly recommend this salon to anyone in the Tampa area. It is on Davis Island, so you'll pay a bit more, but it is TOTALLY worth it. read more

I am updating my review of Studio Cabello because I am beyond pleased with the quality of service I find there. In fact, my whole family are happily clients of the salon. I love the ambiance, the harmony and relaxing vibe. Every stylist is a pro, not only in the product they put out, but in the way they comport themselves. I've been to salons which are hectic, and where each stylist is obviously territorial. Not the case here, it's a very peaceful experience. If I'm going to sit in a chair for a couple of hours, it is a definite plus that it's such a relaxing time. I'm a faithful Aveda products user. My coarse (gray, but who would know?) hair responds so well to the Aveda line, and my stylist, Catherine, is a magician in taming my wicked hair. We consult each time, and as my hair continues to gray, she makes adjustments to my color and cut to keep me looking great. Communication is a big part of what the salon excels at....I believe it is the Aveda model to consult with the client, but under the excellent management at Studio Cabello, the stylists have been trained to really listen, and to give the client the very best product. I used to go to this salon often when I lived on Davis Island a few years ago. I recently moved back to the area and, not sure what happened, but it is not nearly as good. My husband got his haircut... 2 days later he went back because it was so horrid...they attempted to fix it but its a man's haircut, only so much you can do. For my experiences, I tried sending 'George' the owner SEVERAL emails over several days because i received a confirmation to a hair appointment that had been rescheduled days earlier. Then I try calling the salon and am hung up on the first time and the second time on hold for 10 minutes ...all to RECONFIRM an appointment i had ALREADY changed. When I expressed I was annoyed that I am spending a ridiculous amount of time for their lack of management, she said "well the owner, George, is really busy so he doesn't always have time to respond"....um then why don't you get an assistance George? If your "too busy" to respond to the individuals that support YOUR busy and to address errors in YOUR system...no words. I'm sorry - but for such a "nice" (expensive) salon - their customer service is horrible. read more

I've been going to this salon for years. London is my stylist and has always given me great haircuts. At my most recent visit, I wanted to do something fun and different for summer. He really took his time helping me figure out some different options while making sure it was something that I could maintain and wouldn't damage my hair. I joked that I didn't know if I was young enough or hip enough to pull off a bright color, but he really made me feel confident. The salon is such a relaxing and friendly place. My stylist did not listen to me AT ALL. I think her name was Jennifer. I had a consult with her, brought pictures, and discussed that I wanted an edgy shag that did not quite reach my shoulders. I left with a shoulder length style with a couple of unnoticeable layers, some boring bangs and I looked so bad my husband (sweetest guy in the world who wouldn't say poo if he had a mouthful) actually told me I should never go there again! (He never ever tells me what to wear, say, or do - hence the shock...) I looked boring and matronly when I left and my hair was unstylable for months. Yes, it was that bad - and it costs $65 because she was an "expert" - didn't even use a razor on my hair though I specifically requested it. Don't go there unless you're old and boring - definitely ok for blue-hairs, though. read more

Thanks London at Studio Cabello for the great cuts! I am a mid 40's adult who has what I have been told difficult to cut hair and I second that. If I get 10 hair cuts, 9 are bad, and often times once I find a stylist that I like and cuts my hair well, after the 3rd or 4th time they start taking short cuts and I get crappy hair cuts again. I have gone to the salon twice now to see Olivia. Both experiences have been great! She listened to all of my hair concerns and gave me exactly what I wanted even if I couldn't fully articulate it. I have a very busy schedule and have had to cancel and reschedule a couple times and I have never had any trouble whatsoever reaching anyone or getting an appointment that works for me. Started off with a cucumber infused water, during my processing, Maria provided a hydrating hand message and a scalp message during my wash. Aside from being a zenful experience, Studio Cabello consistently exceeds my expectations. The salons co-owner, Elaine, is my preferred stylist, however all the stylist here are amazing and at some point have styled my hair. Been a "not so faithful" Studio Cabello user for 8+ years - never because of service or staff - just usually trying to find something closer to home. I can say though, as Elaine and George can attest - I always come back..to back up that comment my mother will be going there 10 years in October! She is very picky and likes things just so. Came in for a bang trim and specifically asked for someone who was comfortable with doing bangs as not everyone is. The stylist seemed nervous to even touch my hair. After showing him the picture I was interested in we seemed to reach an understanding. I did want them short, but I wish we might have discussed the exact length they were to be cut at. It was a little too late when I realized how short he intended to cut them. Also, my bangs were cut seperately from the rest of the hair around them so they were not integrated with the rest of my cut. On top of it all had to shell out $15, and then go home and try and fix it myself. Ugh, definitely not coming back. read more

The reason I choose Studio Cabello was it is suppose to be an Aveda concept salon. Which Aveda prides themselves, known for spa rituals incorporated into the hair services. With that being said, I expected the service to be a step above the other salons around town or anywhere for that matter. Before my appointment- didn't receive a confirmation call or email, very unusual for a salon. I was greeted nicely and offered a tea or water. My stylist was very thorough and understood exactly what I wanted. Perfect :) After thé consult, no ritual was performed and my shampoo was mediocre. Even though I asked for a very basic trim I still had to pay extra (just Bc I have semi long hair). I was 100% okay with that if I would have received the experience that comes with the price tag. My face framing was impressively done for someone out of school. Though I was disappointed to notice she wasn't going to check for evenness- so I checked myself before leaving. My trim as far as I know, seems to be even all around. Needless to say, No ritual was offered after my service either. My stylist was also an Aveda graduate, hence my major disappointment. Usually my hair smells lavish when I leave from product, not this time. Sadly, I don't think there will be a next. read more

Sent my twin girls down for a haircut by London. One appointment was at 6:15pm and the other 7:15pm. The charge for each haircut was $50. When making the appointment, the scheduler asked if they want their hair to be blown dry. Yes was the answer. They walked to the salon at 6:10pm and was home by 6:50pm WITH THEIR HAIR WET! I asked why was their hair wet. They said, London told them that he was NOT going to blow dry their hair since it was bad for the hair. Studio Cabello still charged the 100 plus tip for a 40 min trim of the girls. I called and owner said he would refund. I know as an owner, I would not have even charged the 100 dollars initially and would have questioned why the girls finished in 40 minutes when 2 hours were scheduled. read more

I've always had a great experience here. I regularly see Rachel for layered cuts, deep conditioning, and midlights. I have medium-long, dark-brown hair. When I couldn't get Rachel, I've been to London (best for bang cuts!), Ryan, and Alexis, all good, too. The stylists help each other when asked for suggestions. The owners are very involved and create a festive and family-like atmosphere, especially during holidays (Ugly Christmas Sweater Day coming soon!), and promote support for local and national causes (such as Plant Power/Eco-Friendliness or Breast Cancer Awareness in October). The extra touches like flavored water, hot towels, and scalp and hand massages contribute to the feeling that this isn't just another S. Tampa salon. And what better proof than its recent award (by the Tampa Tribune) as Best Hair Salon in S. Tampa! read more

I first started going to Elaine at Studio Cabello in 2006, right around the time that she first opened the shop. Over the years, we've had so much fun experimenting with new styles, from very short to very long. I've trusted her salon with my most important life events, from my wedding to my baby shower to job interviews. When my husband and I were stationed overseas I was still able to stay connected with Elaine, getting my hair cut when I visited, and getting advice when far too much time passed and I was just forced to go to someone in our local country. Now, having returned back to Tampa, Elaine and her amazing staff continue to be my go-to hair stylists. Her salon is impeccably clean and provides such a warm and inviting atmosphere. I've always loved the Aveda brand, but I think that even as an Aveda salon, Studio Cabello surpasses its competitors (not that I've visited many in the last 10 years!). Elaine has been my stylist since I first moved to Tampa in 2007. She always does a fantastic job -- whether we want to stick with the same 'do, or try something new, I am always very satisfied with the result. Most of the staff has been there since I first started going, which I think is hallmark of a solid, good salon. The location is great, too, in Davis Islands next to lots of good restaurants and shops. I'd recommend Elaine to anyone.
