I've been producing on Ableton for a few years, and I was specifically looking to work with someone in studio to learn and improve my mixes in general. I spent a few hours with Chris in his Oakland studio and learned so much during that time. It was one of the most informative sessions I've had since I started making music! Chris shared numerous different techniques and workflow tips with me while making suggestions and helping refine my track. It's clear that he's an expert in Ableton, but is also generous in sharing his knowledge. After our in-person session, we collaborated for another week or so via phone/e-mail through the mastering process. Throughout this process, he was thorough, patient, and gave invaluable feedback and recommendations - all while communicating effectively. Something I really appreciate about working with Chris is that he makes suggestions and gives honest feedback, but also makes sure that he respects the original vision for what the track should sound like. Hands down the best studio sessions I have ever had in my music career. Originally came into contact with the studio last minute when I needed a rehearsal space for a project before a show. We were able to book the live room for a warm up set and were heavily impressed by his background and the studio equipment. We came back to record a live set with Chris last weekend for about 5 hours after getting a very competitive quote. I've worked with engineers before that needed multiple hours with several engineers to do what Chris was able to do in a little over an hour to get us 100% setup and ready to play. After the session we took our stem files and now have what we need to mix and master our album. Chris even gave us a rough bare mix export of the sessions to use as reference, and even though he says it's a 'rough mix,' it's straight up better quality than some professional mixes I've heard. There were no surprise costs, we got everything done in the afternoon we booked, and Chris hustled with extreme respect to our time. If you're in the Bay and shopping for a partner for a studio project, you'd be wasting your money going anywhere else because you won't find a better setup than Nexus for the price and quality.
