I've parked my blonde self in Gemy's chair since 2012 & I'm not giving up that spot for love or money. She's a literal hair chemist who turns "meh" locks into runway stunners every single visit. COVID tried to thin my hair but Gemy evened it out, brought back the shine, & made me feel fierce again. Pro tip: her prices & policies are spelled out in black & white. Read them, show up, trust the process, & prepare to leave flipping your hair like it's a full-time job. Worth every penny. ‍ read more

I am in so much awe of this place! I was visiting KC and was in need of hair therapy badly! I called studio 39 and from the moment they helped me make an appointment, to the moment I stepped through the door and they offered to take my coat and of course, to the moment that Caitlin used her magic to do my hair so wonderfully, I was shown the best service!!!! The staff is amazing, the ambiance of the place is so welcoming, and Caitlin and Mady took their time on my extremely thick and long hair and made me feel and look so beautiful! This was the best salon experience I've ever had! May come back to KC just for this experience! Thank you Studio 39 Salon! read more

I am extremely disappointed in my experience at Studio 39. I went in with blonde hair that had roots and asked that Amy give me a full highlight. I have never had any issues with getting the blonde color that I wanted with highlights. I left with copper brassy highlights and a base bump that completely stripped out all of my natural color. I went back the next night for a color correction and spent an additional 4 hours at the salon only to leave with copper highlights and a definite line of color in my hair. No refund offered....Lighting my $160 on fire plus tip would have been a better way to spend my money. Update 12/12/18: since the owner now two years later is offering 50% off a service I figured I should give an update. The owner reached out to me in 2016 when this happened and blamed the poor color on me being pregnant. (I have had my hair colored several times while pregnant, this was not the issue). My initial review did not mention the VERY crooked and uneven haircut I was given and the large chunks of hair that were not even touched with color. When presented with pictures of this as well, the offer was the same. 50% off my next service. Your salon has had two tries already and I have paid at each service for my hair to be messed up. I would be a fool to go back a third time. read more

I had a young man do my first balayage. I am really bad with names, so sorry for that. He did an amazing job!! My hair was dyed with box hair dye before, and was really dark. He did a perfect job of lightening it as much as he could so it stays healthy. He always explained all processes and what he is putting on the hair and what he is doing. He was very professional and friendly. I enjoyed being in the salon. The waiting room is also really calm and cozy. They offer you refreshments. They also recommend you products they use, and you can buy them there. I got 2 'ENJOY' products, and my hair never been better. While they look like tiny bottles, they last for over 2 months now. I definitely recommend this salon. Also, dark haired girls, do not be afraid of bleaching your hairs, you are in great hands here. I recommend a consultation before, It helped me ( I know nothing about hair) to understand how light my hair can get and what I need to do at home to maintain my hair and help the hair stylists' work. I also recommend Morgan, initially I had my consultation with her, she is also very friendly and seems to be professional. read more

This place is waaaay overpriced. Yes they have ammonia-free color, but the application is lacking. "Ombre" is not the look for every single client. Also, forget about letting anyone cut your hair. Both times I had to fix it myself. Additionally, professionalism is apparently hard to come by as well. Hard pass, people. read more

It's unique to find a salon with creative and talented stylists who are also down to earth and friendly but Studio 39 has them. The facility is very cool and makes you feel like you've gone to New York to get your hair done. Alex Lutz cuts my hair and does a great job listening to what I want and then adding her own flair. I love Studio 39! read more

I tried this salon for the first time today. I got scheduled with one of their new stylist, Sierra. She didn't do a bad job but she charged me $170 for a partial highlight and a hair mask....... my hair barely looks different than it did when I walked in... it was a bit much for not a lot of work. read more

I've been coming to Studio 39 for almost a year now. My first visit to the salon was better than I expected. I was in tears when I showed up for my first appointment. I had severe breakage that looked like a mullet, my hair was orange, brown, and black. My fears were quickly calmed. Gemy treated me like family and after hours of her hard work, my hair looked great. Months later my hair is healthy, shiny and the best it's ever looked! The knowledge Gemy has is like no one else out there. She is extremely knowledgeable and amazing at what she does! read more

Dear lord, the people who work here are artists. I have not been here in a long while but I got my eyebrows done here and I walked out Beyoncé. 10/10 still recommend this place! read more

Have always struggled to find a hairdresser that knows how to deal with my hairs, Ben was amazing and even he gave me follow up phone call a week or so later to make sure I was happy with my hairs.Best hair dressing experience I've ever had!! read more

Great service. Adhering to CDC guidelines! Had an appointment with Morgan not knowing what I was going to do! She took over and cut off all the dry, brittle hair and gave me a cut that made it possible for me to "embrace" my curly hair! I never thought I would be doing that since I spent every day blow drying and pulling out the curl. I absolutely love my hair and the cut! Morgan, you are a "saint"! Thanks- I'll see you soon!! read more

The worst wax I've ever gotten. The receptionist and the wax specialist were really bice people, but frankly speaking i would never go back. Went there because my appointment at another place got cancelled. So, i needed full leg wax and brow wax. Rebecca was helping me. Brows were done nicely, cant complain. Full leg wax was done poorly, and i can eve now see hair that where left off. They are normal length, so it is not due to their shortness that they got missed. It is lack of experience. Plus, when i was almost done there the waxer goes "i have not done full body wax in a long time!".. She has also left chunks of hair all along my calfs. I think this is very unprofessional to make someone who does a poor job to help a customer. Especially if it cost $80.. I would not recommend that anyone goes there, at least for their wax services. read more

Outstanding customer service and professionalism! Krissy is a top notch masseuse! I haven't had a massage in many years and with the stress of work along with physical soreness I booked an appointment with her. The Salon is quaint offering both hair styling and massage. Krissy was very professional and genuinely personable. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed before, during, and after the treatment. Her technique was spot on. (I think I may have drifted off a time or two as well.) Afterwards and the next day I felt very relaxed and the soreness in my legs and back were relieved! read more

Guy at the receptionist desk - no customer service skills at all. Lol. Hopefully you can get past that... The blow out was decent. I've had better. Worked in a bind. Thanks. read more

Called and asked some questions and talked to someone very unprofessional with an attitude. She was rude and her answers were short. 1 star.

I love my new hairdo. Amy always does a great job on my hair, this last one is my favorite. She knows just what to do and always recommends the right look taking the time and attention to make her clients look fabulous! read more

DO NOT GO THERE. YOU DO NOT GET ANYTHING CLOSE TO WHAT YOU REQUEST. I went there to have a full balayage to get a lighter hair color. After wasting 6 hours of my time, spending $250 and getting my hair damaged by bleach, I ended up leaving there with a darker color than what I walked in the morning. I went there to have my hair LIGHTER for summer and I left with dark brown hair which is even darker than my natural hair. I brought lots of sample pictures and specifically asked the stylist what I wanted, she didn't tell me I'm not getting anything close to those pictures and even got darker color. I was very upset and I cried all weekend because I spent time and money and my hair was damaged and as a result I had darker hair color which it means I have to go through all of these again so maybe some other place can fix my hair. After a few days the owner/manager Gemy Chiarizio called and I requested to either they fix my hair or refund my money because I had to go somewhere else to fix it. She was very very rude, yelling at me and hang up on me after she was done screaming. Even if there is a small chance your hair doesn't get ruined by studio 39, talking and dealing with the owner (Gemy) is a nightmare. I went there based on their good reviews but all of these reviews are fake and were written by their family and friends. I went there twice ( hair cut and balayage) and room 39 was empty in my both visits. In total of 8 hours of my time there I saw maximum 5 other clients. The attached picture shows how my hair looked before their service and what I requested and what I got at the end. It is very simple: I went there for a lighter color and left with a darker color. read more

A wonderfully laid back vibe with talented stylists. After looking around KC, I finally found a salon with the expertise in blonde balayage and the service to accompany it. I highly recommend this salon and my stylist Taylen - plus it's easy to get to with plenty of parking available. Make note though, only cash tips accepted! (They do have an ATM on site) read more

My first experience at Studio 39 - well, I guess I felt there were a few problems. But, after my first review on Yelp, I was contacted directly by the salon owner, Gemy. She wanted to apologize, but, more importantly to her, find out the details of why I felt I had a negative experience. She also extended an invitation for another visit. I am happy to say my experience was great and would definitely go back again. Her response to my review shows she cares about the customers and is technically capable (in other words, she is very good at what she does). I will definitely go back AND would recommend this salon to others. Salons like this are what make American small-businesses the best at what they do. read more

I was happy to hear from Gemy, salon owner after my first review on the salon. She invited me to come back in for a second visit for a better experience. She let me know the stylist that did my hair was no longer there and that she would be happy to personally assist me. Giving 5 stars for Gemy's quick efforts to satisfy her customers, have yet to come back but looking forward to it!! read more

Wonderful Salon! Megan did an amazing job on cut and color (blond highlight & lowlight), Ashley did a great blow out, and I'm looking forward to my facial with Amy. Both fun and professional, Gemy has assembled a very talented team. I am very picky about my beauty services, and I would recommend Studio 39 Salon to anyone. Thank you! read more

Had my hair cut and colored by Ginger Bell here and couldn't be happier!! She specializes in curly hair-something not every stylist is. She has cut and colored, low and highlighted my hair for 3 years and I hope she never leaves! read more

I recently moved to Kansas City and needed to find a new regular salon. I'm happy to say that I think I've found exactly that at Studio 39. When I called in to schedule an appointment the same week, they were able to find a time that fit my schedule the very next day. The space itself is beautiful, relaxing, and clean and I was greeted right as I walked in and introduced to my stylist Morgan. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do with my hair and asked for Morgan's opinion about getting full bangs; she was completely open about how that particular style may not be the best match for my face shape and recommended a different look that we both agreed upon. I really appreciated her honesty! Throughout the entire process (wash, cut, blow dry/style), Morgan was very attentive, friendly, and (best of all) gave me a haircut that I love from the start which is difficult to come by. I felt the cost was very reasonable and the check out process was efficient and professional. I am extremely happy with my entire experience at Studio 39 and will definitely be coming back/recommending this place to anyone in need of a great haircut. read more

********I am reposting this because I recently saw that it had been filtered out, not sure how.**** I went to Studio 39 wanting a Deva Cut. I have highly textured hair and have been wanting to wear my natural hair out to allow it to breath. I had been wearing a lot of braids and wanted to focus on the health of my hair more. I had not been using any of the Deva Curl products prior to my appointment so I had product in my hair prior to arriving for my appointment. The stylist washed my hair using "no poo" i informed my stylist that I had used heavy oils and creams prior to my visit. After washing once, the stylist applied "one conditioner" and rinsed. My hair s felt very oily like there was a heavy build up on my hair instead of hydrated curls. My hair was very dull with a white coating. In my opinion, the stylist didn't take the necessary time to properly shampoo my hair or remove my product build up, in fact it felt like the stylist had added to the build up. After further digging and investigating it is recommended that more washes should have been used to remove the product build up or using "low poo" then switching to the "no poo". I left the salon to go home and wash my hair. I felt that I had wasted money on this experience. The cut was okay, but overall for my highly textured girls I would bypass this salon. read more

I went to Studio 39 Salon expecting an amazing balayage. I was left disappointed and in tears. I fully understood that what I wanted could take up to three sessions, but the stylist, Taylen, did not communicate that it would cost $600 to achieve. My first and only session costed $230, $170 for the balayage, $45 for the cut, and $20 for the toner. I can hardly tell a difference. I was going for a blonde balayage and was left with a caramel tone all over, exactly what I did not want. I spoke to the owner while visibly upset and tried to explain there was a lack of communication. However, she did resolve the issue in any way. I feel cheated out of my money and left with hair that will need to be fixed. I don't anyone else getting there hopes up due to poor communication skills from the staff. read more

I have had two less than grand experiences with Studio 39. The first was a dermaplaning and eyebrow tint. The lady was lacking knowledge about both procedures. I asked her to please not make my eyebrows too dark because I have light brown hair and didn't want a stark difference. Unfortunately, she made them as dark as one would eyelash tints. As for the dermaplaning itself she did an fine job clearing the peach fuzz, but instead of applying the light glycolic peel beforehand she put it on after the procedure and mildly burned portions of my cheeks. The second disappointing experience was when I scheduled a waxing appointment online and arrived for the treatment only to have them tell me it wasn't in the books and I should not utilize their website to make appointments. If they want people to call for appointments then she should not have an online scheduling choice. Overall I felt like this was a novice spa/salon organization and I wish everyone else better luck. read more
