Salon Burget is a hidden GEM! The salon: Do not let the exterior of being in a strip mall fool you. The interior is stylish, inviting and cozy. The stations are clean and spacious enough to feel like you're not imposing on anybody else who is getting their hair done. The service: I get full or partial highlights + a cut about every 6 weeks and if you don't have the right stylist it can be pretty hard on your hair. This was the case before I found Makayla! I've been to her 3x now and she's a wonderful stylist. She brought my hair back to life and the appointments have all been very relaxing and enjoyable. She is incredibly sweet, thoughtful and funny. There's about a 15 year age difference between us and we get along just like old friends. She is also a great listener and always wants to make sure she had my cut and color exactly as I wanted it. 10/10 - I'm so happy I found a stylist who can tame my unruly hair and make sure I have a nice time while doing so. Makayla, my stylist, was excellent. I showed her photos of times I've liked how my hair looked, and she listened to my preferences when having my hair done, and I think the result was great. She's a good listener, very personable, friendly, and skilled in her craft. This is a small salon, tucked back in an open shopping center on the northeast corner of College, and Pflumm, I think it's very easy to overlook some of the shops and restaurants because they're not very visible from any direction. The salon would really benefit from an update and sprucing up, which is why it didn't get five stars. Most surprising to me was that the stylists' chairs are old, outdated, set far back from the mirrors. and the faux leather seats on all were split down the middle. I'd give Makayla 5 stars, but appearance of the salon itself 3 stars. The lady who cut my hair spent most of the time talking badly about my hair and other local salons. The main thing I wanted done was bangs, which is what I asked for. She replied "No, you don't need bangs." and proceeded to not give me bangs. No, I'm not kidding. She also insisted that I buy her salon products. Literally said "Oh you /need/ this!" and pressured me to buy stuff. I asked her how much the haircut cost so I could calculate the tip (I probably shouldn't have even tipped due to bad service but I did anyway). I had used a Groupon discount which made it cheaper but she demanded I tip based on the regular price rather than the Groupon price. She made the tipping process pretty uncomfortable. The worst haircut of my life. I went in for a trim with hair that went down past my lower shoulder blades and asked Shelly to keep the length the same. She took off more than half my hair and it now falls just below my chin. I told her that I wanted my hair to be all one length and that I didn't want layers or anything else. I have so many layers now that I can't put my hair into bun. Even worse the back of my hair is somehow shorter than my front. To add insult to injury the woman said whoever had done my previous highlights had done an awful job. I don't have highlights - she was insulting my natural hair color! The absolute WORST! Salon Burgét is a small, wonderful salon. I've been having Mary do my hair for the last few years and she is just amazing. It's a really great feeling to know your hairstylist pays attention and will make suggestions for your hair based on you, not just trying to sell products. I used a Groupon for Shellac nails. My appt was at 3:45 on a Wednesday afternoon. The girl (Kacy) who did my nails was sooooo nice. We talked for the hour it took to do my nails and she was great. By 7am Thursday, my ring finger had "lifted"... even though shellac manicures promise to be flawless for 14 days. So I called the next day (took 7 times before someone answered...) and told them about the lift. They got me right in, same day at 11. I even got Kacy to redo the nail. It was fixed and perfect. I went to work happy and gave a nice tip even though the fix was free. Fast forward to Saturday (3 days after the shellac manicure) and my entire shellac falls OFF of my index finger while I am unwrapping gifts at my bridal shower. At this point... I am just annoyed. I am not going to call the salon and make yet another appt to fix a nail that was promised to be perfect for 14 days. I have many friends who get shellac manicures from other salons and never have any issue. I will slap some clear coat on my index finger (I got a sheer natural shellac on my nails) and just see how long the others last. I will try shellac again but not at Salon Burget. Sorry... This "salon" doesn't even deserve one star. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a salon! My mother and I had back-to-back appointments with Abigail at this salon. I asked for 1/2 inch off and a blunt (straight across) cut. I did not want any layers, face framing or point cutting. She ended up cutting around 3 inches off, face framing and point cutting the ends of my hair. The point cutting completely thinned out the ends of my hair, which is the exact opposite of what I had wanted. When my mother arrived at the salon, she asked me if I was getting a blunt cut. I responded with, "That's what I asked for. Is that not what I'm getting?" Abigail said nothing and continued cutting. I didn't realize how bad my haircut was until I left the salon. My mother then had her appointment. She asked for the EXACT same thing as me. Abigail then told her she was going to cut off 6 inches of her hair. Knowing this is not what my mother wanted, I told her to trim 1/2 an inch and blunt cut it. She proceeded to point cut and frame her face, as well as cut off around 2 inches of length. As soon as I walked out of the salon, I began crying because I knew she had messed up my hair. I went home and looked at it and it was worse than I had even realized. I went to another salon to have this fixed because I did not trust anyone at Salon Burget to fix my hair. The stylist at the second salon handed me a mirror and told me to look at the back of my hair because she wanted to point out what Abigail had done and make me aware that she was not the one that did this to my hair. The left and right side of my hair was a solid 4 inches shorter than the rest of my hair and the left side was much shorter than the right. I was appalled at what I saw. In order to completely fix what Abigail had done, I would have had to cut off a significant amount of hair. Now I am left with a botched haircut and I have to let it grow out and continue to trim it until it is fixed. Not only were my mother and I left with a botched haircut, but when I called the salon to complain the very next morning, we were in for an even bigger surprise. I spoke with Shelly who claims she is a manager at the salon. I explained all of this to her and she began telling me that I should have had someone else in the salon fix our haircuts yesterday. I explained to her that we were put in a very awkward position and we did not know how bad the cut was until we left and we were able to look at it more. This conversation escalated very quickly. Shelly extremely rude and basically told me there was nothing they could do to fix this situation. I then asked for a refund. She stated that they do not give refunds and did not even offer to fix our haircuts because we did not say something yesterday. I then referred to the salons website which states: "100% guarantee. We want you to be super happy with our work and everything we do or we will touch it up for free. No hard feelings. If your still not thrilled you can have your money back no questions asked. We stand behind our work." I told Shelly that it states they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their website. She continued to argue with me, told me I was ridiculous and that this was a scam. She then proceeded to hang up on me. My mother then decided to call. Shelly answered the phone and did not let my mother speak with the salon owner, Holly Burget. My mom then tries to explain the situation and Shelly continued to interrupt her, she raised her voice and began yelling at my mother. She then put her on hold to speak with the owner. She got back on the phone and continued to yell and threatened to call the police if we were to come to the salon. I am completely disheartened that a business would treat its consumers in this manner. My mother and I even debated calling the salon to complain, and the only reason why we decided to do so was so that this would not happen to someone else. My experience at this salon was a complete nightmare! I decided to take advantage of the featured Groupon deal for highlights (hard lesson learned, never bargain shop when it comes to your hair) During my consultation I showed my stylist Justine several photos of the blonde color and style that I wanted to achieve. She said no problem and began the process to take me from brunette to blonde. I was horrified when she finished washing out the color my hair was orange and brassy. I complained and even asked for a manager. The manager apologized and told me that if I wanted the color corrected she was fully booked and couldn't fix it now. She said that I'd have to schedule an appointment for a later date and that I would be responsible for payment!! I was also told that I had to pay for this disgusting orange hair color that I was left with. I'm so pissed. The stylist couldn't style to save her life. I mean really, using a flat iron isn't rocket science! I walked out of the salon looking like a frizz ball with orange hair. NEVER EVER AGAIN!! Oh and did I mention it took them 3 hours!!! Avoid this Salon!! The only reason I gave one star is because I had no choice to give "0". I am so disappointed, I don't know where to start! I should have left when I saw a man request the same haircut he got last time but he wanted his side burns shorter & had a couple other requests. The "manager" of the "Salon" Shelly who was cutting his hair rolled her eyes & made faces behind his back because he requested some tweaking of his hair cut. I found this to be Very Unprofessional! I soon realized after getting my hair cut by Abagail that, it does NOT matter what haircut or style you request because you are NOT going to get what you ask for. I specifically asked for ( NO Layereing or Point cutting) I requested a blunt cut because the layering & point cutting thin my hair out on the ends and I told Abagail Specificaly "NOT" to layer or point cut for that reason. Well she decided she wanted to point cut anyway:( My hair is uneven in the front & I have short pieces of hair that make no rhyme or reason and the front of my hair has been thinned out terribly, I just want to cry, it's going to take some time for this mess to grow out! After going home & seeing what she did to my hair I didn't realize how bad it really was. I called the Salon the next day & spoke to the manager Shelly, who did not apologize or say come back in & we will see what we can do to fix your hair. Shelly was extremely rude & yelled at me for not saying anything the prior day. I am not writing this review to be mean and did not ask for my money back! It's the "principal" that I was treated with such disrespect! My hair will grow out, but I cannot except the way that I was treated nor will I EVER go back!
