With a 9-year-old daughter who loves the camera and a 15-year-old daughter who loathes it, my wife and I have worked with numerous photographers over the years to obtain pictures of our girls. We have done the classic school photos, with a single image notable for its stark clarity and mussed-up hair before a ubiquitous blue background. We have also used a more adventurous photographer who enjoyed working outdoors where she generated a dizzying array of images of varying quality. And every year we would then struggle to decide which image to buy and give to our family as their annual reminder that our children are adorable, if not always adoring of the camera. This year, when I suggested working with Jenn Adams of Studio 2N to my wife, her eye roll and a sigh reminded me of this struggle, so we agreed that we would proceed with caution and hope for the best. Oh, how unnecessary was this pessimism.... Working with Jenn is as easy as it gets for a parent, as she is a clear, timely, and effective communicator. Once we scheduled a picture session with Studio 2N in a local apple orchard, Jenn sent over an intake questionnaire to get to know our daughters, followed by timely reminder e-mails, instructions, directions, and helpful "dos" and "don'ts" in advance of our photo session. At the session itself, Jenn connected immediately with both of our daughters, and then engaged with them throughout their session. All told, our daughters thoroughly enjoyed being photographed by Jenn and would eagerly do so again in the future. But what about the actual photos? Shortly after the session I received an e-mail link to our private web gallery of curated images selected by Jenn for our review. After taking a quick look at them on my tablet, I handed it over to my wife without comment. "Oh my God". She was stunned into astonished silence. For the next half hour, she excitedly looked at the web gallery, marveling at how every photo captured each daughter in the best light and reflection of their true self. These were not the usual class pictures, nor were they random images: They were exceptional portraits of our girls expressing themselves. We can't thank Jenn enough for an amazing newborn photo session. She was super easy to work with, worked around our complicated schedule, and was incredibly patient with my partially functional post-partum brain. Once we finally figured out how to organize everyone's schedules (we have two college age kids, a 7yo, and a newborn!) getting to the studio was a breeze (the first and only time I'd been out of the house since the baby was born). She only spent an hour with us but was able to capture our family beautifully! The baby started crying halfway through the session, she was able to soothe her and photograph her incredibly well. Our 7yo had about 15 minutes where he was partially cooperative, during which she was able to get a real smile out of him and capture it! This is something we've rarely been successful with and we were so so grateful to have a picture with all of us smiling! Fabulous! Jenn caught all of the photos I never thought we could ever get! As our first experience with a professional photographer, we could not be happier with the result! She was even able to bring out a smile on our suddenly shy five year old! Our daughter loved all of the choices in the studio dress collection and wished she could bring them home to twirl there too. The studio was beautiful and super clean. The kids (well at least the little one) were almost instantly comfortable and ready for their "closeup". Jenn took family pictures for us with our 7-week-old daughter. She was great with our daughter and was a joy to work with as an adult.
