Very strange experience today. My husband and I spent the morning in Berlin exploring and decided to enter Stuart's Antiques. We didn't even really get to look around but started chit chatting with the woman at the front (who I assume is the owner based on other reviews). She asked where we were from and what I did for work (standard chit chat I guess) and I mentioned I make online learning. She then started talking about how critical race theory should be banned, how our children are being brainwashed, and suggesting all teachers should be fired and "re-trained". I was honestly a little shocked at the conversation and didn't really say much back and we left. What a weird way to interact with customers and alienate them if they don't agree with your views. My experience was very different than the previous reviews. I found the owner to be warm, friendly, and inviting. My 13 year old son is the antique shopper in the family. Most antique store we walk into, the employees are not interested in helping my son find the antique tools and agriculture products that are of interest to him. At Stuarts, the owner was so kind to my son. She some to him with a keen interest and treated him Respectfully. The store is clean and the products are beautifully merchandised. Love the charming town of Berlin. One day I stumbled into Stuart's Antiques store and really enjoyed the experience. A variety of items including paintings, furniture, china, and clothing are found throughout the shop. I've been able to find some really unique gifts for friends and family. The store owner was friendly and very knowledgeable, we got into conversations about the history of Berlin and Assateague Island. The woman working the shop knew that because I was wearing a hoodie, leggings and running shoes that I didn't have the money to buy her antiques. She made no effort to show me the items I was looking at after scolding me for touching them. I am a collector of the items and she had a piece I was very interested in. I saw the price she had on 2 of the items and she was right, there was no way I was paying 5 times the going value. Her items were extremely over priced. I am assuming that once she found out I was a collector and that I keep up with the going price on such items she wasn't going to make a sale because she went back to talking to her friend. read more

I thought that a lot of the items for sale were beautiful and very unique. It was on the more expensive end of the spectrum, but mostly because the merchandise warranted being expensive. My main problem with this place was that the woman working here (possibly the owner) was extremely rude. She made a bad judgement call, assuming that because we were young we wouldn't buy anything. After being there only 5 minutes she commented that they she thought we wouldn't actually be purchasing anything. I had every intention of spending money in her store, but now I never will. I just can't support giving money to a store that is so unkind to their customers. read more

The shop owner came off as rude and condescending. When we entered the shop she immediately informed us that she would only be open another 15 minutes as she had a doctor's appointment to get to. No problem. We had been antiquing most of the morning and this was the next to last shop we planned to check out. We spent about five minutes in the store. The prices were quite a bit over retail. As we were leaving, my husband wished her a blessed afternoon. She commented in a very condescending tone since we spent so little time looking around we must either only be looking for bargains and not real antiques. She suggested we try another store down the street as they had sales and "collectibles". First rule of retail, should be never judge a book by its cover. Especially when you are charging quite a bit more than retail. read more

I only put one star because a zero star was unavailable. The lady who opened the store (owner?) was extremely rude and disrespectful. Through general chit chat, I was pretty much told that I was a sorry mother for not providing my daughter with an Iphone, and called a "loser" for not graduating from a college where I felt my money was not being well spent. Great store in Berlin! This store is very high class and has great finds. I find the owner to be very nice, and passionate about her business, and knowledgable about the shops inventory and products. I recently visited Stuarts Antiques for about the seventh and last time. Antique shopping is one of my biggest hobbies ever and I often like to get together with friends whom enjoy the same and we just spend the whole day doing this. I have several friends that come down here all the way from Baltimore and we do our "antiquing" here or a bunch of us will go to Maryland, ( Frederick, Baltimore) and just go into every antique shop we can find. I proudly display several items in my home which I have purchased at stuart's but this last time I was there, determined to purchase a pair of cloisonne vases I had seen there the previous time I was in the shop and , of course very much hopping that they would still be there. My friend and I walked in and said "Hello" to this very unattractive and old lady behind the counter and her only response was. " I hope you guys aren't here to rob me"! My friend and I were so offended we just walked out of there. Of course, our plans for the rest of the evening were ruined, to say the least. I will never again go to Stuart's and will make sure that none of my friend do either and not only that but I will spend lots of time and energy to make sure that as many people as possible know not to go there. read more

Do not go here! The owner is very rude. Everything is overpriced in this store and the customer service is severely lacking. I tried to find out more background information about two small framed pictures and she became very defensive and agitated. I was even told that I shouldn't buy the items I were looking at. I was very surprised at this because I had actually wanted to buy them for a birthday gift for my husband but because of her horrible attitude and the way she talked to me, I put them back and left. Tony is great. Her store is very high end and the items are beautiful. She is always friendly and helpful, never pushy. We always stop in to look and say hi. She has offered to help me sell set in perfect condition of Waterford Thistle crystal my mom bought when we were in Scotland in 1976. read more
