I encountered several issues: 1. Unnecessary Escalation and Wasted Fees: Instead of scheduling a hearing, she sent an aggressive letter that I questioned. That she never followed through with the deadline she set on 2/28. This wasted time and money. I was billed $1,400 for the letter, $800 for a hostile phone call, and hundreds more for administrative tasks. 2. Lack of Progress: After filing a notice in January, no substantial work was done for months and zero documents were filed on my case. Once I terminated her services(4/28), the case started moving the next day. Also Once I requested her removal from my case, no action was taken for an entire day. I proceeded to file the notice of withdrawal myself and within minutes, Ms. Halstead began filing unnecessary documents under my case, which she continued the following day. She has since sent me emails justifying her filings despite confirmation from the courthouse that they were indeed unnecessary. 3. Misleading Billing Practices: My final bill totaled $4,684.62. Instead of refunding the unused portion of my $2,000 retainer, her office applied a "credit" to create the illusion of a discount. 4. Beware of her comments to sell you her business propositions, record everything. We opted for the higher priced option and DID NOT receive the higher level service and lifetime updates!!! The initial setup and creation of my trust was seamless and straight forward. Elaine's statement of "pay now and have a lifetime of updates" should have been recorded by cell phone and on paper. The definition of updates needs to be defined and expanded upon when the statement is made and recorded. After I started to transfer bank accounts, real estate, and stock portfolios to the trust, the agencies started to contact my trustees 3rd down on my trust succession. I tried to get a permit to fix my HVAC unit and the county said that my successors had to authorize and sign the paperwork. The assessors office and the tax office in Sonoma County started to input my trust successors as the current responsible parties of my property. I called Elaine and she said all documentation is correct, but the "translation" of legalese to everyone else in the world did not put my trust into action, the entire succession of survivors skipped my intended order and all the county and bank documents are screwed up. Emailed Elaine several times to have her explain the situation...she said everything is working correctly and the paperwork is fine. The understanding and perception of everyone reading the "Trust Transfer Deed" does not follow what I want, asking Elaine what can be done, ended up no where but to pay more to update something, when we were told free updates for something in the past. Photographic memory to what was discussed and seen is critical working as a physician, but that memory clip was deleted from Elaine's records and now I have to pay for any updates or changes. Record all meetings so you can have evidence of her statements.
