I am extremely disappointed with my experiences at Strong Roots Dental. The office uses very pushy sales tactics and frequently tries to persuade patients to spend anywhere from $100 to $1,000 on services or products that don't seem necessary. I've experienced this multiple times, and each visit ends with me feeling pressured into spending hundreds of dollars beyond a normal appointment. This makes the experience uncomfortable and frustrating as a patient. Because of this repeated pressure and the unnecessary costs, I would not recommend going to this practice. I would not recommend this dentist's office and will never return. First of all, the dentist who I booked my appointment with doesn't even work there anymore. Her name and photo are still posted on their office window and online, and their current dentist's isn't. Second, their lack of cleanliness was disgusting and concerning. It is incredibly dusty and dirty inside, with old gross furniture and broken blinds. I was nervous I was going to get sick from my exam, though luckily it seemed their tools were sealed in wrappings. They nickel and dime you, up-charging for every little service. Fluoride treatment was $75. They tried to convince me that my retainers were harming my teeth and that I needed to pay them $1,000 for Invisalign. They didn't even provide a toothbrush or floss! Knowing I'd never return, I asked for my records to be emailed to me, which was met with rude questioning and a $25 charge. They are a scam of a business and should be ashamed of their practices! Writing this to potentially save others time and money. Key issues I experienced: 1. Scheduling mistakes and excessive appointment reminders/calls 2. Office was disorganized upon arrival. Had to wait and was moved between rooms a couple of times before being seen 3. Pushy sales tactics for unnecessary procedures 4. Asked to give a Google review during the cleaning. Caused distrust in reviews I read ahead of coming here 5. Problematic billing practices, charged upfront for future work that I didn't receive. Difficult to obtain refund for canceled procedures My gut was telling me not to come back with all of these red flags taken into consideration. I received a second opinion from a highly credible dentist who said the crown and filling recommendations I received here were unnecessary, and I actually need a filling on the OTHER side of my mouth. This office showed me how truly important it is to be your own advocate and how absolutely necessary it is to get a second opinion. It is shocking to me that this place has been operating for as long as it has been. They are predatory. Period. I went in for an emergency appt this morning as I was having extreme upper mouth pain. I was super clear that it wasn't coming from one area but I just wanted to make sure my tooth health was okay. After an X-ray (from a dental assistant that had to re take the image multiple times) and a very BRIEF exam from the Dr, I was told I had a 'hairline fracture' and that I needed a root canal for +$1500 due today. (Mind you, the Dr told me that the hairline fracture isn't even something that could be detected from an X-ray. So she was solely going off the very basic 'hot and cold' test she performed) Something about this felt so off to me so I immediately called my regular dentist and pleaded they saw me asap. My dentist was immediately appalled. He couldn't believe what I was telling him. He took his own X-ray, performed his own test and concluded that my tooth was in perfect health and that the pain I was experiencing was likely from a sinus infection. The way strong roots handled my case feels gross, negligent, and their way of looking for a quick buck. Please please please- do yourself a favor and avoid this office at all costs. Forget the money, but I cannot believe I almost sat through a root canal for NO reason. read more

The front desk does the best they can but the doctors and the billing dept are very unorganized. They rescheduled my appointments multiple times. And waited till the last minute to tell me I owed over $2K and would need to pay it before I could have my crown put on, which meant coming up with that amount of money in a span of 2 weeks. There was very little compassion in delivery this news- when I was initially told I owed more due to insurance not covering the work, a lady came into the dental room nearly yelling as if I was at fault for that. Initially, the only solution she gave me was to take out a loan/care credit, which is ridiculous so I refused. And when I said I would absolutely NOT do that, she commented that if "my credit was bad" I could do a payment plan with SRD directly. I've done care credit for a surgery before and it is a HASSLE.I wasn't going to do it again for something they messed up. They have terrible business practices and money comes first. read more

I would not recommend and I had a very poor experience with this practice. I had an unfulfilled order from years ago, and this practice was not helpful at all in looking in to the matter, understanding the situation, or coming up with a resolve (leaving me without a benefit from my insurance for another two years). There was no empathy or desire to help - which is surprising given their partnership with my dental insurance company, and the fact that I had been patient for two years. read more

Friendly staff! Clean environment and detailed check up and scans! My first visit here

Visited this practice after having to part ways with my previous practice, Nova Dental. Unfortunately a couple of the dentists that were recommended to me by friends in Hoboken are not in network with my dental insurance. I settled with Strong Roots since its closer to my apartment and in network. On the administration front - there were some issues. Nova Dental emailed my dental records to me in advance, which I forwarded to Strong Roots nearly 2 weeks before my appointment. When I arrived that day, the hygienist said she didn't see them and she would have to follow up with the front desk. When they did follow up, they said the photos were just screen shots and they needed the actual xray photos. They should have opened up the email I sent at least a day or two before my visit and then I could have corrected the issue. This was frustrating. Second, the office knew I was a new patient. For some reason, they can't email the new patient paperwork forms in advance to complete and they don't utilize an online system. When I arrived to check in, they didn't even have the new patient forms printed and ready for me. I had to wait a few minutes for them to print them and bring them over. It's not like they didn't know I was coming in... Lastly, when you check in, there's a dry erase board behind the front desk with patients' names listed and if they are getting surgery or important appointments. I really don't think it's a good idea to have patient names visible like that, out in the open... As far as the visit went, the hygienist did a good job cleaning my teeth. I was underwhelmed with the dentist's exam. It was not thorough and felt rushed. The dentist didn't even do the routine oral cancer screening. She just asked me if I had any issues and since I said no, I guess she didn't feel the need to really look in my mouth. I think I may be on the hunt for another new dentist.... read more

Decent experience. Front desk very friendly. Cleaning was fine, hygienist kind. I will say, compared to other cleanings at other dentists I felt like I was drowning with the amount of water in my throat during it, very weird. Felt uncomfortable being asked in the patient chair to fill out a review, which is what brought me here. Appointment took a whileeeee, but I will come back just due to convenience, not gonna make or break your day, fine place. read more

I went to this dental office as a new patient expecting a great experience but was horrified quickly when I met the dentist. She didn't seem qualified in my opinion to treat my dental issues and she also wasn't the dentists they had advertised I would meet on their site which was a major red flag. The service here was very fast and the staff upfront was very nice and professional but I got the impression they just wanted my money and didn't take my dental case seriously. Ever since I had work done here a little over a year ago, I've experienced nothing but pain, discomfort, and regret. I went in for some routine fillings after recently moving to the area, and was talked into the idea of veneers on my front teeth since I had some ugly fillings from when I had braces as a teenager. The doctor made it seem like a super simple procedure, minimally invasive, and quick. "We'll remove a small amount of enamel from the front of your teeth", they said. What actually happened was my front teeth being shaved down to nubs, 360 degrees around, having to wear a temporary bridge over all of them for several weeks (which broke off multiple times due to no at home care instructions/poor fitting), and eventually being fitted with permanent CROWNS. Not veneers, crowns. Not to mention the dental assistant dropping one of these crowns on the floor the day of the fitting, multiple bite adjustments that didn't help (including one done by a very rude dental assistant), and a night guard that was given to me that just made my bite worse. As a result of this dishonest and traumatizing experience, I now have a misaligned bite, TMJ issues, and crowns over my front teeth that I never wished to be there. I went in with one problem and left with 3! I was played just so they could put some money in their pockets! When I returned after a year of shame about what had happened, I politely expressed my concerns with Dr. Habib. She proceeded to gaslight me and deny that anything wrong ever happened. She made me out to be a liar, and more or less said "Sorry that sucks, but hey they look great! Now leave..." Yes, I admit the crowns look good, but I never agreed to them! I just want my natural teeth back! Avoid this place at all costs! They are LIARS and THIEVES! I've attached pictures to show how much tooth structure was removed without my consent. I have always HATED dentists. I had some bad experiences as a kid that left me with anxiety when going to the dentist. Both of the male doctors, as well as the hygienists and receptionists that I have worked with here are AMAZING. They all went above and beyond to make me comfortable and relaxed throughout the appointment. I highly recommend this office :) read more

I went to 23rd Street Dental in the city for years (highly recommend Dr. Elizabeth Mitrani) but changed jobs and was no longer in the city daily. My husband and I booked an apt for a cleaning with Strong Roots Dental in Oct - our first cleaning since before COVID hit. The cleaning was not nearly as thorough as what I'm used to - surprising given it had been so long since my prior cleaning. The office asks you to sign a lot of waivers to rid themselves of any accountability, which I've never seen done at Dentist office. Experiencing some nerve pain, Dr. Habib recommended that I have an old filling that had cracked fixed. They asked me to pay for the filling repair before I was scheduled to have it done, which I also have never experienced. I declined and paid after the work was complete. I had to go back a few weeks later bc of of worsening nerve pain. Dr. Habib quickly tapped a bunch of my teeth and basically implied that I was giving her bad information about my tooth pain and therefore, I must be an idiot? That's how I felt. She said I should start a round of antibiotics in case anything was causing inflammation. I gave them my pharmacist info, wrote down the phone number (guess they don't have google) on a pinky sticky note - one week later and they never called it in. read more

AWFUL EXPERIENCE. Do NOT go to this dentist!!!!!! After going to this dentist Dr Mariam told me I needed 6 fillings and all my wisdom teeth taken out. After having 2 of the fillings and experiencing severe nerve pain, I asked for the X-rays and went to find a new dentist. The new dentist reviewed these X-rays and advised I did NOT in fact need the fillings Dr Mariam had advised. Not only did it cost me $200, I have lost 2 perfectly fine teeth and have had a week of pain. Completely unethical practice. read more

I went to this office and saw Dr.Habib. The staff was very nice. I got a cleaning done which wasn't done very well and I was told I needed a cavity filled. I was unaware of this cavity because I hadn't had any issues with this tooth before. After the filling I started having sensitivity that quickly turned into high level of pain. I returned and she said I needed a root canal, I'm now stunned at the fact that I know have to spend more money on a procedure that she caused by digging in too deep and aggravating the nerve. The main issue was that I was no longer confident in her ability to perform a root canal and chose to go to an endodonsist that they had originally recommended for another tooth. The issue was that they gave me a hard time releasing my X-rays to the endodonsist. It was as if they didn't want me to be seen there. They even said we didn't refer you to her for that tooth we said we would do the root canal here. That's when I said I don't want to be seen there anymore so please just send them my xray. They kept sending them the wrong images and eventually to avoid any further phone calls and hassle, the endodonsist repeated the X-rays which I'm sure I'll be billed for, I was upset that they were giving me a hard time about releasing the X-rays that I paid for. I work with doctors and I've seen many mistakes being made and I understand that can happen in any practice but I've also seen people end up in the ICU from poor dental work, so before you get a procedure done look up reviews and your doctors educational background. Maybe if I would have been seen by someone with more experience my tooth could have been saved. The office staff however was very nice I can't say anything bad about them, the staff told me it was the doctor that kept telling them which X-rays to send. read more

I'm so sad and disappointed to be writing a poor review here. On the surface, my experience at SRD was pleasant, friendly and straightforward. After about 6 months from when I received fillings (6 fillings) from SRD, they noted the fillings were breaking and the reason was due to me grinding my teeth. They suggested crowns and a mouth guard to help with the grinding. Since crowns are pretty extreme at the age of 27, I got a second opinion from my family dentist in my hometown whom I trust fully. She felt horrible for me, and this is when I knew something was wrong. She said the fillings were done so poorly, and there was decay underneath the fillings still. She said I was not grinding my teeth at all, and the fillings were just so poorly done. She felt so bad telling me this as she knew the expenses involved and the danger of just putting a band aid over decay and then telling someone they need crowns. I strongly recommend avoiding Strong Roots Dental. They are kind and friendly upfront but I just feel like I was completely scammed. I'm so happy I took my family dentists' second opinion. Please go to SRT with caution, and get a second opinion as well. read more

Been with Melnick all my life then he partnered withe dr S whose the owner and head dentist. I love this place it's old. School buy your in and out and they are very accommodating not to mention friendly as hell. I love Dr Haq he's awesome did deep cleaning, There's 3 drs there now and in house oral surgeon , I'm going today to get a tooth pulled and he's s specialist in extractions and and any other gum, tongue, mouth, implant ect. They have Zoom for 499$ and you get free oral b electric brush. I think I'm going to do it. I'll let you know what happens after this tooth is pulled! Keep in mind I only have it 4 stars bc of the old school feel and I had a problem with Dr Cohen with a root canal but they were very worried I was in pain and called in script late night!! Then kept calling to follow up. I think they genuinely care about there patients and their always there if you have a problem just call!! Very nice establishment all the dentists are great! No TVS or gas but they make sure you're very comfortable or they'll stop and if you need more anesthesia or to be put under they refer you to someone else in town Hoboken Endodontist is the best for root canal. Dr Lee fixed my root canal from hell in 2 sessions and really took her time she's a pro that's all she does all day! Check her out on Washington. To continue my review I met with the oral surgeon he was very nice too and took my tooth out painlessly . He did spacer for prep for implant. He does them too. Gave me a call over the weekend to check up on how I was doing!! No other dentists do that!! So come see them their on 10th between wash and Hudson easy to get to. No parking but you can park if you really can't get their any other day! Glad I continued with Strong roots after Melnick my dentist for last 29 years left!! read more
