We had eaten at a Strings Italian Cafe in Jackson, CA and it was amazing...however we ordered Seafood Fettuccine and Cioppino and it was inedible. The fettuccine tasted like it was old and the cioppino was way too salty. We were traveling and I ordered a coffee to go and it too tasted old and burnt so I had to leave it there. We were so disappointed that we spent this money to have a nice dinner and were basically unable to eat most of it. We are not picky people either!!, as can be seen in all my other reviews. In looking at the responses from this restaurant... not once do they offer to make things right for their dissatisfied customers but continually say they will use negative reviews to learn to do better.... Fiance and I are new to the area and were craving Italian food, despite the not that great reviews we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was completely empty on a Saturday night at 6:30pm. That should've tipped us off. I ordered the salmon which definitely tasted frozen, smelled and tasted very fishy broccoli on the plate had no seasoning just steamed placed on the side. My partners meal was okay but again with the seafood, the shrimp tasted frozen and rubbery. We also ordered the bruschetta what was soo garlicky was almost not edible. Overall wouldn't come back, the only nice thing was our very sweet waitress. Food was literally spoiled rotten. I tried Strings tonight for the first time. I ordered the seafood bisque and the spaghetti with meatballs. As soon as I opened the bag, I smelled the sour smell of spoiled food. Both the soup and pasta were spoiled. I hate to say this, but I have honestly never had worse, grosser food. $50 of food in the trash. The tiramisu was ok. Too bad you cannot choose ZERO stars. Cafe salad is coleslaw not lettuce. Deep fried Zucchini was ok but cooked in fryer oil that lost it days ago. My entree; pastry lasagna was not edible, it was sour tasting (spoiled) old lasagna wrapped in the pastry dough. The Alfredo sauce was just weird, oregano tasting and sour. The marinara was deep black/red (burnt) and chunks of something in it that were indescribable. My husband had the chicken Parmesan and the chicken was so tough you couldn't even cut through it. We told the waitress that the meals were not edible. She took them off the bill. That was nice but She charged us for two à la carte Café salads, which were really coleslaw. She charged us for the bread that we didn't touch and she charged us for the zucchini. Charging us for the zucchini was fair. The meal was a total disaster. I highly recommend you staying away. I've always loved Strings in Roseville but unfortunately, they closed several years back. We decided to try Strings in Carmichael for my birthday. What a disappointment. The lasagna pastry wasn't cooked all the way thru and the pastry was doughy. The Alfredo sauce was bland. I was so disappointed! I had not been to this location in several years but was happy to see it is still open! Arrived here around 11:30 for lunch with friends. One of my friends ordered the Zoodles and the other ordered the Minestrone soup. Both agreed their food was good and that they will be back. I ordered my favorite, Chicken Piccata and found it to be very good although portions on the chicken are half of what they used to be. The salad was not as I remembered it, not sure why they changed it. All in all I will be back. The service was really good and so was the ambiance. A great place to meet up with friends! To the owner's response: my issue was her essentially accusing me of lying. Then when I called her out on it she rudely said I can come back and switch it out. Like rude again after calling me a liar. That's my problem. Also why should I have to load my child back up drive 30 minutes round trip because your staff is too lazy to check an order for correctness and then be rude to customers when they call about it. Tfw you work all day then take your kid to swim team for an hour after and all they ask for is spaghetti and meatballs so you call in an order to strings and pick it up instead of having a tired six year old maintain in a restaurant. I got two very small pieces of bread.. the salad it was also very small as a side dish And I ordered a macaroni and cheese child portion ... This was way over price for what I received ... the meatballs, were of reasonable size.. The taste of the meatballs had an excessive seasoning which I was unable to determine .. I know it was not garlic nor was it oregano.... Whatever it was, it was too much.. the spaghetti and meatballs were $20 and the extra meatballs were six dollars.. there was also not enough sauce for the amount of noodles.. I had to add extra sauce from Walmart. Great value line. .. actually the Walmart great value taste much better than the sauce overall.. The portion and the amount of cheese sauce on the macaroni and cheese was also not worth the money .. The lasagna I ordered had black olives in it. I wish that would have been disclosed in the menu because I loathe black olives. My salad had wilted and brown lettuce mixed with cabbage. Maybe they ran out of lettuce for salad and figured heck with it we'll just give her cabbage with a few sunflower seeds? The tiramisu was covered with chocolate syrup. Nope. We had the pleasure of being served by a young man named Freddy tonight. Our first visit and I must say that I was impressed with how well he handled my impossible dietary food restrictions. We both had salmon. I had angel hair pasta with mine, my husband had mashed potatoes. Because of my dietary restrictions I cannot eat any red or white meat anymore so we had to request certain substitutions or items be left out. We were accommodated without any problem. The food was flavorful and I think we will be making a return visit soon. The atmosphere was quiet enough that I could hear my husband and not feel like I was screaming to make myself heard. Do I think the overall entire experience (i.e. food, service, atmosphere, etc.) at Strings is 5 Stars? Honestly no. The service can downright sucks at times . But thanks to the pandemic, I haven't eaten at the restaurant in quite awhile. Silver linings! So my current 5-star rating is based solely on my recent take-out order. My recent take-out order was quite large and consisted of the baked lasagna and tortellini combo, chicken Alfredo, fried tortellini, bruschetta, fettuccini Milano, and a cheese pizza--all entrees come with the house salad (or soup) and bread. The food was all great, the order was entirely correct, and everyone was super happy. The bruschetta is super garlicky amazingness and my personal fave (lasagna and tortellini combo) was excellent. I love their house salad (sunflowers, raisins, red onion, and house dressing....get in my belly!!!). This is why, despite what I am about to tell you, I gave them 5 stars!!! Now, for my complaint....they are SO stingy with the bread. Full disclosure: I love their bread and am a carb-addict, but c'mon...they've been stingy with the bread for YEARS!!! I've been coming to Strings for at least 10 plus years, probably longer, and they've always been stingy with the bread!! It's maddening. Anyways, so back to the recent order, the lady on the phone that took the order was nice, but when I said "please make sure to give us extra bread bc we are clearly feeding a lot of people" she....wait for it...wanted to charge us extra!! Remember when I said they had bad customer service?? ((insert eye roll)) I was quick to complain about being charged "extra" and reminded her that if we were eating inside, we'd get pretty much unlimited FREE bread (which is sorta true--but I will have to save that story for another review). She responded, "well typically we give 3 pieces per person." Since we were feeding about 10 people, I told her I expected about 30 pieces and that "that was enough," to which she quickly replied "yes of course." So, all in all, we got plenty of bread and didn't get charged. But even if we did want more than that, you'd think they wouldn't mind giving us more since we were spending so much. But whatever Strings. You're lucky I love your food! read more

My son and I went here for an early dinner. The restaurant was very clean, the ambiance was nice and their music was excellent. We had the spinach artichoke and pepperoni dip which came with garlic bread - this was delicious, creamy and cheesy! We had the Pasta Siena and the Chicken Lombardy. The Pasta Siena's pasta was cooked to perfection, a little spit but not too much at all and the hint of curry was delicious and unique! The Chicken Lombardy was as yummy with the Marsala and Alfredo sauce. I got the zucchini noodles with the Chicken Lombardy which was angel hair cut and still had a slight al dente texture - this is amazing with the fine cut! I didn't even miss the pasta noodles. We wish we would have had room for dessert - maybe next time! Mario, the chef was very kind, humble and has a passion to see customers enjoy his prepared food. Esmeralda was our server and she is adorable, very personable and helpful when suggesting what to order. We will be back!
