Being a sunny school holiday morning at this recently opened mini golf spot we were lucky to get the last parking spot, and the kids were excited to give this place a go. Also being new was a breath of fresh air for those who have navigated older, rundown mini golf spots. We were armed with our clubs and balls, and helpfully suggested to start at the 10th hole as there was less congestion. This was a good idea as we realised we were slower than many of the other groups, and that was mainly dads' fault! A great course with a couple of cool designed holes, reasonable prices, clean and tidy facilities and snacks, although only partially shaded makes this pretty warm on a hot day. Good for a couple of hours entertainment.

I love a…read morebit of the old ten pin, and I am also fond of a beer from time to time, so the idea of having a beer whilst bowling was a strike in my eyes. We had beers and played pool downstairs before heading up to the alley and knocking down those pins, some better than others. What I need to do in order to improve my game is work on not turning my wrist when I release the ball, I had a bit of trouble there, and my friends didn't make it any better, but I reminded them, some of us may be in the gutter, but at least we're looking for the spares. Strike bowling is the perfect place to meet up with friends if you're all keen on throwing large heavy balls down thin wooded aisles to hit a bunch of white pins. If that sounds like you, then this is the place for that. But what it also offers, apart from group packages and functions, is downstairs beside the bar they have a laser tag arena. A simple game where you put on electronic vests and back packs and run around shooting each other through a dark and moody maze in some kind of, as the introduction video states, post apocalyptic world torn apart. Between shooting friends with lasers, bowling gutter balls and drinking beer, Strike Bowling Bar offers a great and different night out.

It has really brought bowling back as a night out. I first went here for a work Christmas party and it was so much fun. I've also been for a few drinks and a burger and some bowling, as well as with a private party. The best part about it is that it's not just bowling, the entry level is a bar with pool tables and arcade games and a dance floor. Upstairs is the bowling, and there is a bar at the end of the lanes, where you can also order food. There's also laser skirmish, which I am yet to try (it's booked in for a friend's birthday next month). As well as karaoke rooms (also yet to try and not likely to happen). After 4pm it costs $16/game, or $24 for two. On a Saturday night this goes up to $18/game or $28 for two. Its cheaper during the day before 4pm ($14/24) and for kids during school holidays ($8) There's also a bowl and blast combo, with 1 game of bowling and 1 game of skirmish for $20.

My husband has fond memories of Penrith Ice Palace from his high school days. Afternoons and…read moreweekends with close friends were often spent skating away to colored lights and music. Due to extensive allergies, my choices of recreational activities have been severely limited. I'd since been more involved with indoor sports/activities such as squash, mini golf, and bowling. However, I'd never given ice-skating a thought... Hearing that I'd never skated with anything other than indoor quads, my husband insisted on taking me to my very first ice-rink. With my first Australian summer in full-swing, it would be a refreshing change from trying to plan activities around the blistering heat. As I had hoped, immediately upon entering the building, we were greeted by a glorious winter chill that never seemed to die down. I was right to bring warm gloves, a knitted beanie, and a thick hoodie despite the 30°C+ weather going on outside. Everyone on the ice was comfortable at their own respective paces and there were skaters of all different ages and experience-levels. For those of us who aren't as confident in our abilities (yet!), this was extremely comforting. The rink was of decent size (not that I have much to compare it with), the ice itself was freshly smoothed, and in all honesty, not that painful to fall on! My only disappointment had been the very edges of a quarter of the rink. The wooden barriers, although charming and sturdy, seemed highly worn and prone to splinters. Unless you're wearing gloves, I feel that it could be a hazard to those who aren't quite ready to let go of the walls for balance. Aside from that, I have no real complaints. As a first time ice-skater, this location granted me a solid first experience and impression of the sport. We will absolutely be returning again in the future.
