Studio Z Fitness II

Studio Z Fitness II

Let me start with saying that I LOVE Zumba. It's the only workout that I have kept up consistently…read moreover the last two years. Although I enjoy a variety of instructor styles, I can still be very choosy with classes and studios. I LOVE STUDIO Z. I live in Dallas but was visiting family in Branford for the week and wanted to enjoy some home made Italian food without adding inches to my waistline. I found Studio Z online and decided to give it a try. Their website clearly states prices and class times, so I went in on a Monday to buy a block of 4 classes for $35. I was greeted by Danielle, the owner and her lovely mother and little girl. They were very welcoming and asked if I was new to Zumba. This question is one of the most important things to ask new comers and although I've been doing Zumba a while now, I really appreciated that they asked. The studio is large, clean, colorful and there is a platform for the instructors to stand on, which is a big bonus. There are cubbies to put your things in during class time. I only took Danielle and Nili's AM classes and I really enjoyed both instructors. Each brought a different take on Zumba, but they both kept the integrity of a Zumba class' components. I recommend that if you're new to Zumba that you take a class in the morning since they are less crowded and there are a lot of people on different levels. It will take a few classes to get used to it, but stick with it and ask questions! The instructors also offer modifications to either lower or up the intensity. Toning sticks, mats, and all the fixins' are provided if you don't have them so just bring yourself and have fun. Don't be intimidated by other people in the class because they were once new too and I found most people in the class to be very nice. The monthly unlimited is a bargain, I would totally go to this studio if I lived here!!! Next time I visit, I will be back to studio z!

This is a fabulous Zumba studio. Classes are often packed with return dancers. Instructors are…read moreupbeat and easy to follow for beginners. The choreography isn't challenging, appropriate for intermediate level. They do offer the occasional master class. Some fans are placed to help you breathe. I wish parking were more plentiful and not as restricted; the wrong spot can get you towed or the business fined. I also enjoy how they participate in local events and charities.

Totally late on this five star review but a recent visit back to New Haven reminded me of how much…read moreI enjoy Polefly, Jess, and everything she brings to this space. Polefly is essentially where I fell in love with the art of pole and Jess has set a standard for instruction that I've looked for in every studio I've attended since. She is highly technical and understands the mechanics of the body in a way that makes you feel really safe while you practice here. Poling can be scary but I never felt worried about injury at Polefly because Jess is very thoughtful and careful, she plans the lessons around you and your body, meeting you where you're at while still challenging you to try your best and push yourself a little more each time. Despite all of her extensive experience and technical prowess, Jess never makes you feel less than. So much of poling is as much mental as it is physical, and this space always feels and felt safe, supportive, and affirming. I grew so much here and I am so sad there are so many miles between me and this lovely space these days and always look forward to my next visit back. Thank you, Jess, for everything you do to make this space wonderful. Also: get here early, people. Sometimes the walk up the stairs is long.

We took a private pole dancing class at Polefly with Jess as part of a bachelorette party weekend…read more Everything was great--from the booking process to cost ($20/person for an hour class) to the class itself. Our group is very uncoordinated but we still had a really great time learning some moves and getting some exercise. The studio is clean and kept up well and Jess is a great and encouraging instructor and doesn't make you feel like an idiot (even if you know you're looking like one!). I can't speak to the normal classes here but would highly recommend booking a private event for a special birthday surprise or bachelorette weekend!

Tried this location today, due to the fact that the Branford location had hot water issues…read more First of all, I felt this gym was cleaner and better maintained than Branford. Plenty of parking and a friendly staff. A member of the staff was walking around wiping down equipment the whole time I was there. Also a higher percentage of members wore masks. They had more equipment and floor space. The only shortcoming was the locker and shower was small, considering the size of the workout area. I debating if I'm going to change my membership to this gym , not sure yet.

This Planet Fitness has got to be the worst location I have been to. I get it is a "Judgement Free"…read morezone but this is what you get when it is the only gym in Easy Haven: bunch of meat heads with no common decency. A) I go here after work. Unlike other Planet Fitness gyms, there isn't a separate coat rack to hang your dress/work clothes on since the lockers aren't deep enough to hold a hanger. You go into the men's locker room & see multiple large lockers without locks. That is until you open each one & about 4 out of 5 have nothing but a sweatshirt in the locker. Really? Do people at this gym not understand that if you don't have at minimum a gym bag & a pair of shoes then you shouldn't be using the larger lockers. There are about 20 large lockers & maybe 12 of them are filled with just a shirt/sweatshirt because ppl don't have any common sense. b) The amount of money these places invest in the ellipticals annoys me. There are already 30 treadmills & 30 ellipticals downstairs so why is there a need for another 30 of each kind upstairs? It seems like this is how all Planet Fitness are. Has there ever been a time where even 30% of them are being used. You'd think the amount of money they could have saved for one elliptical they could install a couple larger lockers. c) And if you are on an elliptical either have a routine programmed into the thing or get off. It gets really annoying when someone is adjusting the levels every 3 seconds for 30 minutes straight. I still don't get how the engineers who made the machines didn't think that would be annoying at all. d) This part of the review goes to PF corporate. There should be more explaining by the employees upon signing up on how you cancel or relocate your membership. I moved last month & I really don't like this Planet Fitness at all & the other ones in the New Haven area are too far from work & home to make it convenient to go to. I was already sick of this PF & wanted to cancel the membership. Was then told that you can only cancel in person or by letter to your HOME gym where you signed up. By the time I wanted to cancel they had already billed me for a $40 annual fee that must have been in the fine print. e) One of the worst things is that the water is awful!!! I have never been to a gym where the water isn't at least somewhat cold. The water here is almost warm. If you don't fill up your bottle at work or home then you are better off not drinking water during your workout. I have been to about 8 PF's & this is the only one that doesn't have automatic water meant for water bottles, but hey I think they need to save money for a 61st treadmill & 61st elliptical. You go here & you think this is Globl Gym from Dodgeball with the meat heads. I am an athletic guy but the East Haven gym is more like a Powerhouse than a Planet Fitness.
