You don't have to be a Beatles fan to enjoy this part of Central Park. But I do love it when some musician is hanging around singing a John Lennon or a Beatles tune. Strawberry Fields is a five-acre landscape memorial dedicated to British rock musician John Lennon. "Strawberry Fields Forever" is a song by the Beatles and what this memorial is named after. It includes the "Imagine" mosaic (a song by Lennon) where many come to pay tribute to him. John Lennon was murdered at the nearby Dakota building across the street. There are plenty of benches around the "Imagine" mosaic that you can sit on and listen to musicians pay tribute to John Lennon. The mosaic is usually often covered with flowers. John's wife Yoko Ono had a big part in putting this area of Central Park together. Many of the plants in Strawberry Fields come from many different countries. I think it is a nice relaxing area to come to and pay homage to a music legend who stood for peace.

You see, my father was a paint chemist in Newark, NJ and one of the salesmen that called on him offered him tickets, so our family went to the show. I still have my ticket stub which I've posted as a photo with this review. I've wanted to visit the John Lennon memorial at Strawberry Fields ever since it opened on October 9, 1985. That day would have been his 45th birthday. Strawberry Fields is in a section of Central Park across the street from the Dakota Building, where Lennon was assassinated on December 8, 1980. John's widow Yoko Ono Lennon played a big role in the design of the memorial. The finished product is near the Park's West 72nd Street entrance and includes The design of Strawberry Fields includes small landscaped meadows and a winding path that leads to a mosaic tile star built into the pavement with the word "Imagine" in the center, from the iconic song from John's solo career. I've read that Strawberry Fields is always crowded, and when we visited on a beautiful Saturday afternoon it sure was. The mosaic was ringed with tourists awaiting their turn for a photograph standing in its center. I ended up being disappointed with my visit, because John and the Beatles meant (and continue to mean) so much to me. Much of that disappointment came from an obnoxious guitarist who detracted from the spirit and atmosphere I expected . He sat on a bench playing and singing Beatles songs between his harangues begging for donations. Hearing him say "I'm a serious artist, I'm on Spotify" and "if you clap and walk away you make me sad" really seemed inappropriate. Had John been around, no doubt he would have told him to "bugger off".

Because I l love The Beatles & John Lennon, I visit Strawberry Fields when i'm in NYC. It's always filled with visitors from different countries. And there are always flowers from visitors on the "imagine" mosaic. The memorial consists of a five-acre landscape near the West 72nd Street entrance and includes the Imagine mosaic, where many come to pay tribute to John Lennon. I left John a dozen white roses :)

If you are a Beatles or John Lennon fan, I highly suggest walking through Strawberry Fields in Central Park, and stopping by the Imagine mosaic. It's a beautiful memorial dedicated to John Lennon. The way the location is set up, you can see The Dakota apartment building, which is a surreal feeling. This is a dedicated quiet zone in the park, and it can be very peaceful. Depending on the time of day/day of the week/time of the year, you will likely have a different experience each time you visit. Sometimes it is quiet and peaceful, with hardly anyone else there. And other times, it is extremely busy and noisy. Often times, there are musicians playing Beatles tribute music and it's a neat experience.

I've had mixed feelings about Strawberry Fields for a while. I do love how beautiful the area is and I love that there's a memorial for John Lennon because he was a legend in the music industry, but it honestly is enough to make someone a little uneasy because of the way that there seems to be a line slightly crossed between admiration and idolization. At times it can be very peaceful, and you can walk through and appreciate the memorial and the fields before entering the park but there are times when it's filled with people singing Beatles songs, leaving candles, smoking marijuana, selling merchandise, and circling around the memorial. While I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, but it is enough to make some feel uncomfortable. I am a huge Beatles fan and I love the music, but sometimes it seems a little excessive and it's almost impossible to make your way through the massive crowds of people.

Imagine. Visited Central Park on a drizzly Saturday in October. Walked the entire length of the park when the rain showers paused for a couple of hours. No crowds at Strawberry Fields due the the cloudy skies. A solo guitarist sat on the Imagine mosaic quietly singing songs from John Lennon and The Beatles. Very peaceful. Strawberry Fields Forever.

If you're a fan of the music of The Beatles and the late great John Lennon, you might want to take a simple side trip to see the "Imagine" memorial mosaic that is down a little path at the 72nd Street and Central Park West entrance to the famed park. This is also across the street from The Dakota Hotel where Lennon was killed now more than four decades ago. It's a simple space where one will find vendors selling all sorts of Lennon memorabilia and I like taking a few minutes here when I am visiting either the Historical Society or the American Museum of Natural History. Beyond the "Imagine" mosaic is the very spacious and beautiful Central Park so depending on the time of day and weather is nice to explore a little more. As I visit the AMNH quite a bit I am also prone to visit this space for assorted visuals and feel the vibe. My most recent visit was on the anniversary of Lennon being shot. There were lots of people there that night and a band playing Beatles songs. It made the visit a little more special and I recommend you stopping by if its easy enough to do so.

Got to scratch this gem off my bucket list! Central Park is absolutely gorgeous and amazing, and this tribute to John Lennon did not disappoint. Complete with a nice young gentleman dressed in a suit, playing Beatles songs on his guitar. I was moved to tears.

This is such a beautiful area of the park- remembering John Lennon. There is always a part of the park to explore - whether or not you are new to the city or an old timer. Strawberry Fields always has a special place in my heart!

This is a memorial made for John Lennon. It's about two and a half acres. The memorial was designed by Bruce Kelly. It's named for the Beatles song. The entrance is on Central Park West at 72 Street. The Dakota, where the murder happened is actress the street. There's a round mosaic with Imagine written on it. The mosaic was a gift from the city of Naples in Italy. This is supposed to be a quiet zone. It's very peaceful. Strawberry Fields was dedicated on John's birthday, October 9, 1985 when Ed Koch was mayor. Sometimes musicians play there.

I didn't mean to take the picture of the lady butt, people kept walking in my way. It was nice out today at Strawberry Fields many people there today. There was plenty of seating to take a load off. As you enter, there's many horse drawn carriages I'll take advantage of that next time. I really enjoyed just sitting there and listening to the many musicals artists playing their renditions on John Lennon's songs. It wasn't until the Tour Guide explained that the Dakota Apartments is where he lived with his wife in New York. It was explained that she still resides there to this day. I was able to find a perfect spot to wait for my passengers. If I had known the significance of the building I would have tried to get in lol.

I've been wanting to come to Strawberry Fields & Pay my respects to John Lennon for all of my adult life. I'm so happy I was able to bring my wife & daughter to Strawberry Fields as we took a carriage ride through Central Park. I could not explain the excitement , giddiness, combined with sadness that was going thru my body as we arrived to Strawberry Fields. Knowing that you are surrounded by people that practice peace in their lives and have been touched by the legacy of John Lennon or the Beatles is truly a special feeling, I hope everyone will be able to experience. Our time was short on the day we visited however I will come back and just relax for however long as it takes to continue to enjoy what I experienced on my first visit. On this day we heard a man with his guitar singing both John Lennon songs & Beatle Songs. People were singing, people were quiet, people were enjoying their time there, Someone had graffitied a Strawberry Field Sign there & it looked like someone tried to cover up the Graffiti, that was a bummer.

I always accidentally find myself stopping by here when I am in Central Park . . . I mean there are several spots I accidentally find myself at but this is one I don't think a lot of people know about. I even came here for the John Lennon Memorial concert they do here annually. Fans just gather and sing Beatles song in tribute and people go take pictures at the Dakota, which is slightly morbid, but I even did it myself. There is just something magical about that night when it happens. It feels surreal to be singing Beatles songs with a bunch of other Beatles fans. It is always super-crowded when I come here (usually invariably on a weekend) and have found it impossible to take a clean shot of me with the Imagine Memorial, or just of the Imagine Memorial itself, with all the people there. Always end up with someone in the background, the foreground, a guitar, a random flower, feet, shadows, just never a clean shot. So I've included a clean beautiful shot that someone else was good enough to send to me. Some day I'll get my own clean shot . . . :) read more

What a lovely walk! All of Central Park is nice, but I found this to be even more gorgeous. The walkways were covered with trees and beautiful flowers. So nice to have this area right in the middle of such a bustling city. Just wonderful.... read more

"People asking questions lost in confusion, Well I tell them there's no problem, Only solutions, Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind" -John Lennon, Watching the Wheels This may be pure blasphemy, but I found Strawberry Fields both overwhelming and underwhelming. On one hand, as is obviously the case with a lot of people, the music and philosophy John Lennon left us with has had a profound effect on the kind of person I try to be. Regardless of the fact that he passed before I was born, it was an intense experience to acknowledge his death in such a tangible way. On the other hand, I feel like New York could do better by one of it's more beloved adopted sons. Outside of the simple, but tasteful and beautiful "Imagine" circle, there isn't really much there for Lennon. I'm not suggesting a statue or anything large an obnoxious, but like I said, the place was slightly underwhelming physically. read more

I love this statue that memorializes John Lennon. The bad thing is there are homeless people smoking around it and being noisy. Shouldn't this be a place of quiet introspection? This isn't the fault of anyone but really? Who would take a smiling picture at a place that is in memory of a person who was shot and killed? I didn't take a picture at all but had I, I certainly wouldn't have been smiling. Since this is a popular place, there were a lot of people and off to the side is where bikes and carriages park to pick up tired tourist for a tour of Central Park. It is also in view of The Dakota where John Lennon was killed and lived. read more

Such a beautiful monument to honor the great John Lennon. Brought my kids here as they have proudly taken on the love for Beatles that my mom had passed on to me. It's a lovely way to pay tribute to such a legend. There usually is someone playing Beatles songs in their guitar which adds life to the experience. A nice and quiet memorial to a great artist. Stumbled upon it completely randomly. Part of the tourist experience of Central Park, but still, if you're just visiting New York and are in the area, you should definitely stop by. There's usually a gent there playing Lennon songs which adds to the ambiance (but must feel ad nauseam to him and to frequent visitors I reckon). Enjoy the moment, take a photo, drop a couple of quarters for the busker appreciation and move along. read more

"You may say I'm dreamer, but I'm not the only one" One of the most peaceful, serene & spiritual places I've ever been to. I was visiting NYC for the first time on vacation from SF and this was on the top of my bucket list. I read all about Strawberry fields located in Central Park West and it was everything I thought it would be. We did a bike ride around Central Park for the day (I highly recommend, it was in my opinion the best way to see the entire park) and this was the last stop on our list. I made sure to wear my Strawberry Fields Beatles shirt the day I came. It was a Friday afternoon and this part of the park was quite busy. However, in Lennon like fashion everyone was very polite and stood in line to take a photo in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend checking out the Dakota which is a short walk behind Strawberry Fields. I visited here a week shy of October 9th, which is John's birthday. I heard many of John's ashes are scattered around Strawberry Fields which made the experience so sentimental. If you are a huge Beatles fan, this place tugs at your heartstrings! read more

John Lennon was alway's my favorite Beatle. Whenever he sang I felt a connection to his soul. I love coming here to Strawberry Fields. Knowing that he walked upon the same ground and maybe I sat under the same tree he sat under with Yoko and Sean makes this Beatle fan happy. Great place for picnics, people-watching, remembrance and song. I've done all 4 - though you probably don't want to listen to the singing. :-) Enter Central Park at 72nd Street and Central Park West and head a bit east. The " 2.5-acre tear-drop-shaped parcel of park landscape " contains the Imagine mosaic, donated by the city of Naples, and a bronze plaque that lists the 121 countries endorsing Strawberry Fields as a Garden of Peace. Strawberry Fields was dedicated by Mayor Edward I. Koch, October 9, 1985, John Lennon's birthday. read more

This lovely little spot in Central Park is a lovely tribute to John Lenon. The Imagine Circle is quite cool and always decorated beautifully by people who care. There are lots of musicians around and people taking pictures and things like that. The surrounding gardens are lovely. It's definitely for tourists...we took everyone who visited us through this area of the park...it's right on the way to the bow bridge and Bethesda Fountain. It's pretty great though! read more

I love this part of Central Park! It's on a hill but not too hilly, there's plenty of trees to provide shade, and has a beautiful view of the castle & the pond! There are a lot of tourists that take pictures of the large metal Imagine sign in the ground, but with an artist like John Lennon memorialized there, who can blame them? Nice looking, beautiful walkways, and close to the water - love it! read more

Strawberry Fields can truly be described in one word, Beautiful. It was definitely everything you imagine when seeing the word "Imagine" so gorgeously imprinted in the concrete. It's placement in a quite zone could not be more appropriate because there are no words only thoughts and a slight feeling of tranquility. If you somehow manage to evade all the wonderful things New York has to offer, please make it a point to at least see this. read more

The Imagine Circle for John Lenon is beautiful. Always filled with tourists taking pictures, leaving flowers and lighting candles. Rain or shine. On another note, besides tourists, there are crazy street hagglers out there too. Ive gone to visit twice and each time a different one is getting into a shouting match with someone. My NY State of mind tells me to go the other direction once crazy people start to shout and get mad so I never got to take a picture. I would recommend seeing only if you were a big fan. read more

Central Park is a real gem. Yesterday we packed the tandem stroller, cameras and drove in to Manhattan with the kids to take a nice afternoon stroll and enjoy the last few days before cooler weather rolls in. We have made it a routine to enter by Strawberry Fields (72nd Street) as the west side generally has less congestion than the east side. It's a short walk to everything in the park (Bathesda Terrace/ Fountain, Loeb Boathouse, The Mall and Literary Walk) to name a few. The John Lennon memorial had it's usual crowd, a mixture of tourists and locals paying their respects to the late Beatles legend, just across from the Dakota where he was fatally shot. It's still early too see the Fall foliage but the kids were happy to see the sights and sounds that make this city so great...filled with camera toting tourists, bird watchers, lovers in horse carriages, avid runners and cyclists, dog walkers, musicians, skaters, skateboarders and rollerbladers...just a wonderful mix of people having a great time in the greatest city. There was also a nice young couple getting their wedding photos taken, they had some really great weather for pictures. For us it was a chance to get out of the burbs, spend some quality time with the kids and for a few hours, feel like New Yorkers again. read more

Well, I was disappointed. No, it isn't that Strawberry Fields underwhelms; because it doesn't. And I realize that some may look at the simple mosaic with the one word, "Imagine," and go so what. Lennon had a vision of a beautiful world, and I let historians, politicians, and psychologists debate on if that vision could ever be achieved. The let down was the huge groups of people in this alleged, "quiet zone," I found the level of disrespect here pretty shocking and it took away from the experience. I would recommend a weekday visit, and I would probably say early in the morning before the throngs of people arrive. The area itself is beautiful, as is all of Central Park - I just wish the crowds there were more interested in the actual location and the significance of it, and given it a bit more respect. read more

Visited March 2014 This was really easy to find and is right across the street from the Dakota. There were quite a few tours out when we went so it was really busy but worth tge visit so we could pay our respects. read more

Sitting on a bench in the shade, looking on at the mass of people some passer-bys stopped to ask us a question. "Can I ask what happened here? What is everyone looking at?" Amused, I responded, "John Lennon died, this is his memorial" Confused the stranger thanked me for the information and went on his way. Though crowded, this is a nice area of the park to sit and watch people. The area is nearly entirely shaded, and the nature of the "memorial" attracts tons of tourists. The Dakota apartment building is directly across the street, and visible from the benches surrounding the mosaic. A very nice tribute to the great John Lennon. read more

This place is great for Beatles fans. At any hour on any day there will be Someone playing Beatles songs. I like to sometimes sit on a bench and listen to the music and people watch. It's a great place for people watching. read more

I'm glad I took the time to stop by and check out this memorial! It really gave me peace of mind while I took a break from my worries in my busy schedule while I was up there in NYC. It was dark already but I didn't feel scared at all (I was by myself) there were a lot of nice people there, families and couples, all enjoying the free live music. I love live music and let me tell you this place was non stop! Whenever a musician would finish his repertoire and leave another one would take over right away, I could spend hours there singing along to my fav Beatles songs (everyone sang along too). A truly magical experience. Any Beatle fan will love this place! read more

I constantly defer to the famous Beatle's song when people ask me for my last name so it was only fitting that I would visit during my trip to NYC. As I gazed upon the "Imagine" plaque in the center of Strawberry Fields I noticed flowers and candles set in remembrance of the victims of the tragedy that occurred one day ago in Connecticut. Central Park itself is absolutely beautiful and visiting this iconic part of it was the culminating point of my Central Park tour. read more

Some of my favorite childhood memories take place here. Children playing, couples kissing, mothers with strollers, homeless people, food and ice cream stands, dogs, people tanning, many stopping to take a look at the imagine circle... It's so New York yet if you're a kid you can play hide and seek like a pro. I would tell anyone to at least walk through if anything. read more

Everybody sing along now! There are many nicer spots in central park which is why I can't in full honesty give it all that many stars, but it is a cute spot to swing by, and when you live on the west side, a good meeting spot for convening with friends before moving onwards. read more

This park serves as a tribute to John Lennon and his hope of global peace. The vibe here is mellow and somber....kind of eerie, but not in a bad way. I felt sad, but then happy when I stumbled upon fresh flowers perfectly placed in a circle around his memorial. People still congregate here daily to peacefully (as in very quietly) celebrate his life and sell some memorabilia....hey this is still a capitalist country even if you're all about peace and love. read more

Nice area, the Delta (where Lennon was shot) is right across the street. Every time I've gone there has been someone singing songs around the memorial. Not much else there besides green space. Touristy in the summer months. read more

Such a cool spot that plays tribute to John Lennon. You can't go wrong with Central Park but this part is especially great!

I proposed to my fiance here; she absolutely loves the Beatles. It gets a little crowded here sometimes, but the memorial is cool and the Dakota is right across the street. It's fun to walk through and check out. Lots of benches and places to sit down and pretty close to the Museum of Natural History. The Imagine memorial is pretty cool. Tons of people are there taking pictures of it... so good luck if you want to get a picture without other people in it. Worth checking out! read more

Nothing nicer than any part of central park. My wife and I went to the fireworks show last night at the Bandshell and stopped by at strawberry fields for a little while. Its a great memorial to John Lennon. If you haven't been there you should go. read more

Either on the day this palce opened (Oct. 9) or when Lennon died (Dec. 8), or maybe both, people gather here to pay tribute. They gather here and sing Beatles songs and someone always brings his/her guitar. It's a great place to remember what the world lost, especially with the place where Lennon was shot so close by. read more

Besides that, I never paid much mind to the park, especially in light of the fact that it's not in my stomping grounds. Nevertheless, I had just finished brunching nearby and since it was such a gorgeous day out, I decided to take a walk through the park and check it out. MSP is not large - the center of it is a large green space with paths on the perimeter that contain walking paths and benches. In addition to the Shake Shack, there's also a small seating area nearby where you can sit and eat, or just hang out. The park is ideal of people watching, eating your lunch, or just walking around a space that contrasts the hustle and bustle of the surrounding areas. Because of the weather, it was a little crowded but still pleasant. Overall, MSP is fine - it's not worth coming to unless you're in the area IMO, but a pleasant spot nonetheless.

We were on our 4th game of 5 on 5 on this slanted, slippery court with double rims as the Midtown skyline looked over us. We had gone 3-0 and already on wobbly legs but wanted one more to really push ourselves to exhaustion and be WHOOPED. A group of 5 17 year olds showed up and I was lowkey like damn I don't wanna play these little kids for our last game but whatever, they got next. We were going back and forth, and to be fair they were actually pretty good but just too frail to give us any problems. At 5'10 174 lbs, I'm a BIG guard. I'm left handed, but shot a right handed floater fading to my right as I'm trying to get better. If you can hit a weak hand floater on the run you will be tough to stop. I bricked it and this little 17 year old kid goes "that's a TERRIBLE shot" looking at me dead in the eyes. Like bro y'all are losing and you suck why you talking? He woke me up and I started actually trying really hard and lowkey busting their ass... but tbh normally I'm not even that good. It was just one of those days where everything was falling. I hit a 3 and yelled out "THAT'S A LAYUP." I drove hard left, euro stepped and hit a tough finish through 2 and yelled "I"M TOO BIG," while flexing. I switched onto little homie and he took a terrible stepback shot after I turned him 3 times and bricked it. I just whispered to him "I don't even gotta say nothing after that one it speaks for itself" which really pissed him off. Then I hit the game winning 3 and did the Dame wave to him as he walked off the court PISSED as hell. I sat down and then he got the courage to say "STOP TALKING SO MUCH" while he put his hand together to mimic me YAPPING. I almost stood up and said "HOW BOUT U GET WIN?" But then I realized I'm a grown ass man and there is absolutely no reason to be jawing at this little kid on a beautiful Friday in New York City. I just kind of laughed at myself and asked what is wrong with me lol. All in all, these runs were kind of weak and this court is in horrendous condition. My daughter has a friend already working in a High Rise above the Shopping Mall. I need to go back for the day. I'm sure I could spend several days in the area and never get close to seeing everything. You're close to the river, the High Line, Shopping, Arts, Entertainment, Expensive Residencies, Food, the NYC Parks and more. I'm posting some photos I took in the vicinity. If you're interested in visiting an up and coming neighborhood this is the place everyone is talking about.

It's a real beautiful grand old style New York creation, harking back to the old days of greatness and innocence in some ways, and I couldn't love it any more than I do. I wasn't able to get a picture of it on the inside on my most recent trip, and Google photos seems to eat most of my previous pictures from a couple years ago, or maybe I have loaded it already and Yelp ate it, but regardless - you should come and check this out.

The American Radiator Building (also known as the American Standard Building) is an early skyscraper at 40 West 40th Street, just south of Bryant Park. I have a photo I took of it when I was standing in Bryant Park. It's my favorite photo to date but it was taken on a dreary day. I'm hoping to return soon. The original section of the American Radiator Building, a 23-story tower, was completed in 1924. The five-story annex, to the west of the original tower, was built from 1936 to 1937. It's style is Gothic Art Deco a favorite of mine.

The moment you see the "Imagine" emblem on the floor you get mixed emotions. It's one of mourning for a great man and an overwhelming happiness that such a man existed among us recently. Further along the trail you see a plaque containing an alarmingly large list of countries that help to maintain this section of the park. Though it's not a remarkable expense for them to maintain this very small section in the shape of a tear drop, it brings great happiness to see such a great person with such an incredible message be recognized by the entire world. The people who visit, and those that loiter here are very friendly and outgoing. It's not uncommon for some to trade their philosophies on life and things. It's the one place in New York where you get a strong sense of unity from everyone around you. If you have not paid a visit to this sector of Central Park, I highly recommend that you do. read more

Juan Carlos is an excellent Spanish teacher-- the best I've had. I've taken years of Spanish in school, and traveled/lived abroad, but still don't have the fluency that I should after so long. His teaching strategy has hugely helped me to better understand the fundamentals of the language (which I have memorized for many tests, but don't implement well in conversation). All of our communication is in Spanish, and he makes me record our classes on my phone so I can listen to them later. Many times, class just feels like a long, candid conversation, but I end up learning a lot and practicing the new things I'm learning throughout. I've only taken privates with Juan Carlos, but I highly recommend him as a teacher! read more

Strawberry Fields is a fairly decent sized landmark located in a very nice neighborhood in the charming and lively area of New York, New York in Chinatown surrounded by Theater District, Hell's Kitchen and Midtown West. This park can be accessible from Henry Hudson Parkway to Joe DiMaggio Highway on the New York State Route 9A, Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, FDR Drive and Broadway. Perfectly nestled between East River and Hudson River. This park features many parking options. Strawberry Fields features many engaging amenities, programs and activities for all ages. Also, this park is adjacent to John Lennon Memorial. There were no directions or signs for restrooms; I had a hard time finding one. read more

This area dedicated to the memory of John Lennon is a perfect place for quiet reflection or just resting and taking in the vibes around you. Located just a quick walk inside Central Park near the Dakota building where Lennon lived and was shot, there are usually buskers nearby singing Beatles and John Lennon music in tribute. I try to be sure I spend at least a few minutes here every time I'm in NYC. read more
