My wife and I are full-time RVers. In our search for a spot to winter in Florida, we came across…read moreOld Town Campground 'N' Retreat. If you're expecting a RV resort with amenities galore, you will be sorely disappointed. This campground possesses more of a rustic feel, with mature trees galore. Campground sites are mostly sand and grass. Full hookups are available (power/water/sewer), and sites also have access to cable with 29 stations. Most of the sites are shaded, although there are some pull-through sites in the back portion of the campground which are not as shaded. The owner lives on-site and is very hands-on in the campground, constantly working on maintenance/upkeep/improvements. He's extremely helpful (guiding us into our site upon arrival, providing recommendations on recreation/dining/etc.), and he even hosts holiday functions at his residence for campers who will be onsite during holidays. Prices are very reasonable as well -- we are paying $300 per month for our site plus electricity. As part of our arrival, we also had to make a $50 electric deposit. Compared to other campgrounds in Florida, that is an outright bargain! Because it is more of a rustic campground, insects can be a nuisance. Our dogs are continually getting fleas and bug bites that we are having to treat. Also, cell phone signal can be spotty. We have Verizon and fluctuate between 1-2 bars of 4G and 2-3 bars of 3G. As someone who depends on a strong signal for work internet connectivity, this can be annoying at times. All in all, this is a campground I would recommend for the person who's looking for the rustic retreat to get away from it all.

beware of resident psychopaths poisoning dogs and management's lack of concern for guest safety. I…read morewas walking my dog at about 12am and she ventured about six inches off the pavement in front of a mobile home where she pooped. Before I got a chance to clean up after her a woman lurking inside the trailer in her night gown and giving me flashbacks of the girl from the movie "The Ring" began to scream at me saying, " get your damn dog out of my yard! I will put poison in my yard!!" This of course frightened the hell out of me (a woman with disabling PTSD alone in the dark at an rv park). It was a scene straight out of a horror movie. As I tried to tell her I can't control where she relieves herself and that we were actually not on her rented property but on the shoulder of the roadway, she continued her shrill ranting. My dog began to bark at her as she came to the door in front of me accompanied by her husband. Both of them spit venom at me that surely woke the dead but were careful to do it at a safe distance as my dog was eager to come to my defense. They hurled the most obscene insults and names at me that would have made a sailor blush. the next day my dog was obsessively licking and chewing at her feet. When I examined them I found they were blistered and bleeding. soon after she was unable to walk. I cleaned them applied ointment and kept them wrapped in bandages. I repeated that process twice per day and was very angry at myself for all the extra treats I gave her in the past when I had to carry her outside to go potty 4 times per day at least. The pictures are three days afterward and her feet were more than 50% healed. I spoke to the owners who were in no way concerned and didn't seem to believe me. The male owner said, "yeah she called my wife and said you were letting your dog crap in their yard and not cleaning it up." I replied, "so that's okay for them to scare me to death and scream the most vulgar names at me in the middle of the night." He then said, "well they have a different story" that incident was the first time my dog had ever been off the roadway in front or behind their campsite. there was never one time that I didn't clean up after my dog. there were other reports of those people screaming at other guests about their dogs but no one else reported being threatened with poison nor were their pets injured. My dog was not engaged in any out of the ordinary activities that would have caused those injuries. She does the same things now that she always has in similar environments and has not been injured in that way either before or since. We relocated soon after.

We called and let them know we were coming in late and the maintenance man greeting and helped us to our spot. Nice spacing in between spots and lots of trees for shade. Grass sites that were well maintained and semi leveled. Electric, water and sewage hookups were centrally located. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Laundry facilities have five washers and five dryers and even one big commercial washer-$1.50 to wash and quarter to dry.
