Found out I was being charged for a service I wasn't receiving. Received rude and aggressive emails when I queried this. Suddenly was forced to pay up front because I was "receiving a service throughout the year". Requested advice on several occasions. No reply. No acknowledgement. No advice. Big phone bill due to repeated calls to HMRC to get advice I was paying Callan to give. Sent info for company return 2015-16 in May 2016. Had discussions with Callan in June to refine detail. Contacted Callan many times throughout December expressing concern about not having received accounts for filing. Finally received a holding response on January 9th. One day before the deadline, Stephen provides the information and tells me it was done in September. The take away message is: STEER CLEAR or risk your sanity. The Mitchell Business Library is such a wonderful resource that I decided that it really needed a…read moreseparate listing from that of the main Mitchell Library. Business @ The Mitchell - as it's known as - can be found on the first floor of the Mitchell Library. It's very separate from the rest of the library, and has it's own section and information desk. As well as providing copies of industry magazines, some business reference books and directories - it also has it's own computer section. These computers are not for general use, however, they are to be used to browse the amazing online resources hosted by Business @ The Mitchell. Some of the services are available remotely - which means you can access them from the comfort of your own home - but others can be reached only from the Business Library itself. Plus, you need to register to use these services - so you need to make a trip down to the library the first time you want to use them. Once you're on the system, though, you will have access to demographic reports of all wards in Glasgow, business directories, business start-up advice, industry fact sheets and reports on industry trends - among many others. If you're in business already, or if you're in the process of starting up, then you'll find Business @ The Mitchell a really useful resource.

Alas, sadly, I cannot say this. However, I can say that a very close friend has now managed to set up a semi-successful business with the help of these lovely people and access to the treasure of resources that are holed up in this section of the Mitchell. I also suspect that the semi-success is only due to the nature of the business (and possibly - don't tell on me - some rather dubious business skills of said friend) being photography, and more specifically wedding, photography. Thus, if you are considering setting up a business please come here and soak up their knowledge and useful tips as opposed to harassing non-business minded friends to come up with fail-safe plans. Keep in mind, this is also a great place to spend an afternoon and have a rummage. You never know when it might be useful. I'm clicking my heels right this second...maybe just one more time for luck will be the trick...here goes.

Plenty of postcards of the area as well and free leaflets about places to visit and things to do. The lady who served me three weeks ago was extremely nice and very helpful. There's a large free car park immediately outside.

It's a centre for disabled people, business, charities, community and the public. We had a couple of rooms, one where we had our training and the other for our lunch and tea breaks. The food was really good including lovely fresh fruit and the food was constantly topped up. I knew about the place previously as my dad had told me about it as he's been many times for various meetings for Capability Scotland. He told me there was a cafe and should try it as it's open to the public. So I was going for lunch with Angela B. and I said I was taking her somewhere new as a surprise. It's only 5 minutes from Govan along at Kinning Park. Got a parking space across the road ok. It wasn't too busy and there was plenty to choose from. There was hot and cold food, I had a dish from the hot plate with chips and it was lovely. The prices were very reasonable. They did mix up Angela's order though, I think they thought it was to take away, so it took her a little longer to get her lunch. Apart from the wait it was pretty good.

Business Gateway have taught me so much! This is a free service run by the council offering free…read morecourses for people wanting to learn about business. I have signed up to 8 courses and have already completed 4 of them, they have fantastic presenters and manage to pack in loads of information on the day. The council fund them to run these classes. Most classes run from 9.30-12.30 which is a shame as I would prefer it if they were run as an evening class because I have to keep taking time off work to attend them but other than that I have no complaints.

Archibald Sharp is an attractive looking estate agents on Dumbarton Road. (I probably only think…read morethat it's attractive because it's painted a red/pink colour. But there you go...) As well as being an estate agent, it's also a solicitors office. Although this is more than a little bit confusing - I suppose that it would be useful?! They actually have two offices along Dumbarton Road, next door but one to each other. Which kind of adds to the confusion really! Anyway, the offices are nicely done out and welcoming, and the staff seem to be really nice. They also have a good selection of properties for sale and for rent - so it's well worth checking out their windows if you're in the market for some property.

As I live in Australia my sister dealt with most of the correspondence with Jim. When I did arrive for the funeral he was so easy to deal with and took so much pressure off the family. Unfortunately I am over from Australia again for my Mother in Law's funeral and are using Jim again as my in-laws tried local lawyers in their area but had no empathy and only interested in being paid.
