The bar smelled like someone had just taken a fresh dump. The smell was not pleasant. The bar was busier than last time and there was a different bartender. There is a large sign indicating that this is Uncle Bennie's hanging off of the outdoor patio/ smoking area. Several picnic tables. Inside the varnish on the bar is old and a little sticky. The carpet must be 80 years old. Matted down with decades of spilled drinks and tobacco smoke. Peppered with a million cigarette burns. There are 8 bar stools. 6 high top tables. But one is buried under clutter. No darts . No pool. 4 poker machines. That is about it.

I never really went in to Lee's as it wasn't my scene. Although the location is conjoined like a duplex to another place I do often frequent, and frequent still, The Tiki Bar. I just hardly ventured, nary set foot into Lee's. And that's probably because I'm not, and still not, in my 70's or even my 60's. Lees was a geriatric gin joint. And I guess, once I got used to not going in there, I just stop seeing it. Like, literally turning the proverbial blind eye to it. So, it's been Lucky Joe's for a minute, and I still haven't acknowledged it. I just forget about it. Last night, while smoking a stogie outside the Tiki, I could hear the music booming out of the open door of Lucky Joe's. It was rap. But it was good rap. The kind of rap I like. Old school 90's. 2000's. Stuff you can dance to. I dig it. So, I popped my head in there. I liked what I saw. Reminiscent of Lee's but just a hint of it. Not the AARP card crowd but the layout and the lighting, which I vaguely remember from an equally as brief visit yeeeears ago. I will return in the near future more focused and on a fact-finding mission. This is an easy one-two hopscotch bar hop between the Tiki and Lucky Joe's and I will do it. I was excited to return for my first pride event of the year or event at Central Station in general to celebrate my coming out and just as soon as I was at the front doors I was assaulted by the bouncer after he snatched my phone from my hand and I had to shout at him to please leave me alone and to get away from me and told him not to touch me. He shoved and grabbed and verbally assaulted me as well. Afterwards I had to be calmed down by my friends because I was trembling from the experience throwing me into a fit because of my diagnosed PTSD. I and many others steer clear just to avoid being harassed by this one man who makes you nauseous at the thought of going in or out through the front door. Needless to say what was supposed to be a moment to take in the atmosphere of my new truth was tainted by a malicious man. I'd like to thank the owner for listening to my grievance, I and many others would love to have this resolved. The last Pride Month Drag Show was amazing and all the Queens did a Marvelous job! No. It has left its longtime beloved, teeny-tiny, cramped and confined space and moved to the former Ernie's Bar on Wall Street near Stoner Ave. Yup. Stoner. That old, EDM dance club now gone, having too, recently closed its doors, but theirs, sadly, for good. So, Fatty's is now where the old Ernie's Bar once was, and is now parking lot mates with Strange Brew, another fantastic tavern. This could truly be a match, as you could park in one place and very easily go to both. And there will be some nights, that I might just do this as I'm quite fond of both. Both venues are live music friendly and it appears that Fatty Arbuckles is really utilizing their new space, inside and out. And why shouldn't they? After being cooped up for so long. The night of my visitation, bands were set up outside. There was a small horse trailer out there selling booze too. So absolutely right on! Giddy up! They also had an amazing server going inside and out all night long. I repositioned a few times without notification and she found me every single time to check on me. Love her! Shreveport homeboy Dylan LeBlanc will be hitting this place soon for a gig before heading to the Continental Club in Houston, and Chickie Wah Wah's in New Orleans. Then, it's off to Denmark for ol' Dylan. I've always dug the namesake of this bar. Tragic, embattled silent film actor and comedian. And equally as tragic, I heard once, that Chris Farley was going to play him in a film. I would've loved to have seen that. But at least we have this bar in a new part of town. And not far from another re-launch as well. Also a live music venue. Bayou Thunder Saloon is now Straight Jackets. So, in close proximity, you now have a triad of clubs: Fatty Arbuckles, Strange Brew, and Straight Jackets. This is going to be rad. The rad triad off Stoner and Wall Street. Wow.
