If you've eaten at Zizi's then you know what to expect, as their menu is set across the group, all but for the chef's specials. The quality of the food is what i've come to expect from them and couldn't find fault with it, as was the same for the service.

When it was nearly 10 minutes and we were still waiting she came back and said just a few more minutes. Having a similar experience elsewhere before i was expecting that to turn into an hour, but no - we were seated literally 3-4 minutes later. When at the table the service staff were just as helpful with any questions we had and even managed a genuine smile which can so often lack in many places!!! Although not usually a fan of these chain restaurants i will definately be back to North Hill for the atmosphere and service alone.well done.

The £3.90 fries were the same greasy fries from the local 3am kebab shop, expected actual potato. The venue is nice looking, very small though. The service was okay until the waitress wouldn't take no for and answer when we didn't want coffee or dessert. We waited 15 minutes with the bill but had to go up to the counter anyway where 6 staff avoided eye contact and ignored us. I paid £50, if I'd had spent that in Ask Italian down the road, I know I'd have been much happier.

To be completely fair, Italian food (like French cuisine) isn't my favourite due to the over-reliance on sauces to deliver the flavour. I am quite willing to admit that perhaps I don't know what good Italian food is supposed to taste like, so take this review with a grain of salt. There is one dish that I did find enjoyable: The Lobster Pasta. Imagine a plate the size of a lorry tyre, filled with linguine and crowned with a whole steamed, split lobster. You have no chance of finishing this mountain of food in a single sitting (unless you have a hole in your neck or severe hyperthyroidism). The pasta is al dente and the sauce is not overpowering. Yet, I still found the highlight of the meal to be playing sock-puppets with the beastie's empty claws. I will say that the service at Franco's is among the best I've been treated to. The owner himself would come out and greet us warmly, as if we were his own family. He'd rain down shots of fine grappa on us and frequently come out of the kitchen to make sure we were taken care of. Good memories there. If you try it out, I hope you remember it as fondly as I do. And if you're an Italian food connoisseur, please give a better representation of Franco's than I'm capable of!
