Storybook lane is wonderful an magical! My family has been going here for generations. My mom went, I went, and now I took my son for the first time. It is open every two years for a couple of weeks surrounding Christmas so plan ahead! Open the ODD years :). Most of these scenes are animatronic

Storybook Lane is back open!! This was our first time. We arrived around 5pm. The kids walked around it twice. Super magical and fun! I would definitely recommend for young kids - or young at heart!

I recently learned about Storybook Lane from my daughter...I had never heard of it till last night! It was a spontaneous outing by my family, and it was so much fun! I think a trip to Storybook Lane can quickly become a family holiday tradition, or it should be anyways! I didn't know what to expect, I just figured it was one of those neighborhoods that you drive through and ogle the lights. It is not. It's a place where you take the family, park the car, and walk through. As you walk through Storybook Lane, it's as it's name suggests, a place to visit fairy tales and other favorite characters. There are scenes from different stories, with lights galore! One of my favorites is Aladdin and the Genie. I really like the church with the Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well. Storybook Lane is free, but there is a donation box as you enter. It's a non-profit organization run by volunteers since 1936! I was disappointed to learn that they are only open on odd years...so the next one will be in 2013. :( It's convenient to get to from Hwy 47, three miles outside of Forest Grove. The volunteers that help with traffic flow and parking makes it a smooth parking experience. Storybook Lane will run December 15th thru December 25th. They open at 5:30pm and close at 9:00pm. Definitely a sparkling gem in the Forest Grove area worth checking out!

I can't believe after all these years we had never heard of or visited Story Book lane in Forest Grove. What an imaginative and fun little place! Storybook Lane is a small walk-through lighted mechanical display of the most popular children's stories, rhymes, or movies. Each display looks to be hand cut and painted and then some ingenious and creative person put them to motion with amazing mechanical moving designs. It is hard to explain, but it reminds me of old Macy's window displays back in the day...likely before I was born. The entire display seems to be inside of an old barn. Admission is free, but donations are accepted at the entrance. We threw in some cash...I mean it must cost quite a bit to keep this up and running and I am sure there is no shortage of people not donating money to keep this up and running. The "trail" around the display is short and it is "outdoor" so if it is raining, you will get wet. There are lighted Christmas trees all the way around and they were very fragrant. As you move around the trail there are stations where a story is set to motion out of these plywood carved figures. Some scenes are set to music. The stories I can remember that were displayed were, 101 Dalmatians, Charlie Brown, Robin Hood, Mother Goose Rhymes, Cinderella, Snow White, Shrek, Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland, and there were also a bunch of snowmen, Santa's workshop, toy soldiers and dalmatians hidden all around for the kids to find. There was also a very nice little "chapel" with music and an image of the nativity scene to pay respect to the reason for the season. Very nice. Parking was fine for us, but it is limited. However, they had like 10 people outside assisting folks with finding a spot. LOL we couldn't believe how many people were helping out. And to think these people are likely volunteers! Great community effort making this a wonderful experience for so many families! Don't go to this event if you are expecting Disney Land. Storybook Lane is simplistic entertainment designed for the young or the young at heart. I appreciated it for the creativity and hard work that must have gone into it. My little one was mesmerized by all the moving parts and princesses that, to her, seemed to come to life. My teenager, on the other hand, did not enjoy this place at all. Too old to be mesmerized, and too young to appreciate the creativity.

Yes, you could see a blockbuster for a discount, but you can do that at just about any theater in Portland. When it would welcome events like the Tournees Film Festival, Radical Reels, Rocky Horror, etc., it seemed as if it was fulfilling its purpose: That quirky, off-centered, cosmopolitan little college town theater that broadened the community's horizons. I'll admit that even before Covid-19, its gaze was getting a bit narrow. Why latch on with Disney when Grand Lodge and Cornelius are going to play the same films? Why have a brewery partnership targeting a core audience that can't really drink your beer? Why ignore the campus altogether when Pacific has a film department that can actively help you with programming? I think of Portland State's Fifth Avenue Cinema and I see so much potential for the Forest. You could host Pacific film and video majors' work, let them and their department host repertory programs and fill in the rest with art and independent films that nobody in Hillsboro, Cornelius or Beaverton--or even Newberg--is going to show. If Ridgewalker needs to host the occasional ski film or showing of Strange Brew or some other party movie to bring in revenue, that's understandable. But you have untapped resources right next door that can help the Forest become relevant to new generations in Forest Grove. Showing Marvel movies until the place has to close again is one strategy, but I think the pandemic's granted you a better opportunity. It would be great to see Ridgewalker take it.

Well, it's a $5 (or cheaper) movie theatre. There is one screen with a bunch of seating…read more It seems like this one screen is usually playing one of the most popular movies that is currently out. It is located right next to the Pacific University campus, which probably makes it popular with the local college kids, especially considering the low ticket cost. It shares a website with the Cornelius theatre, so I think they must be owned by the same people. So, the sound system wasn't great. (I noticed at the beginning of the movie, but it wasn't distracting for the entire showing.) There was trash on the floor near my seat, and I was at the first showing of the day. They also didn't bring the lights all the way down for the actual movie - they stayed at the dim setting that is usually just reserved for the previews. When I went to use the restroom, there was a weird giant hole in the ceiling of what looks like it should have been a sitting area, but in fact it was just an empty room. The lock on my stall didn't line up. When I went to wash my hands, the hot water handle on both of the taps didn't work, but water did come out when I used the cold water tap. Most of the parking on the street was only 2 hour parking from 8 AM to 5 PM, but there was a small lot behind the theater that didn't look like it had a time restriction. When I showed up at the front door, there was a ticket booth, but there was also a sign on the door saying to go inside to concessions to purchase my ticket (it looked like there was just one employee there for the matinee I attended). Snacks were pretty reasonably priced at ~$2 for theatre candy. Overall, the place was just pretty dingy. It could really use being spruced up and maintained a little bit better. I appreciated the low ticket cost (which is the reason this place gets 3 stars instead of 2), but I wholeheartedly prefer the Cornelius theatre over this one. I don't think I'll be back.
