I visited the stop and shop in South Windsor,CT. They didn't have enough cashiers open so I went through self checkout, I don't like this method as they treat you like a criminal. The employee was right ontop of me squeezed into a small corner and remained shoulder to shoulder until I completed the process. If stop and shop is so concerned about theft they should have more cashiers open. read more

This Stop and Shop is generally clean and well stocked. My only wish was that it had a better selection and was a bit bigger like the Vernon Super Stop and Shop. But the deli counter is solid and stocked with Boars Head products. The meat section has everything you need and I've gotten some good cakes from the kids at the bakery. There is a small prepared foods and salad bar section, it could be better but its size is likely due to the amount of business it gets, which seems limited. They usually have a few cash registers open, but if you don't have many groceries, there are many self checkout stations that never have much or any wait. read more

Not much to say about this place. We are just killing time down to hate. Just finished Snapple Element drinks (Fire and Rain) we will break it down for you guys no need to ask. Rain, tasted like a blue raspberry lolipop that was left in tap water lowkey. Our bad for buying them warm as all hell. Shouldnt hold it against them but we will. Fire, does not live up to its name (banger). I thought it was Pomegranate, Aria called me an idiot will talk to her about it later, gonna start a fight sounds fun. We walked through every aisle and nothing screamed picnic what is that about? For example, fish sticks, still not really sure if it would be an appropriate snack. Sandwiches looked faded and old, lowkey grey (You let me know how you spell that) Was self checkout confusing for anyone else, employee made me look like an idiot in front of girlfriend will start a fight about that too ,I have a fun night ahead. read more

What prompted me to write this review is the 2 dozen roses I picked up for Valentines Day. Absolutely gorgeous! I paid less for 2 dozen than most florists were getting for 1 on this holiday. This five star rating is in large part due to the fantastic butcher you have and the friendly cashiers that always greet their customers with a smile and are very professional and personable. However, at this time I want to focus on your butcher. He is so very helpful, and because he was a former chef, is willing to share his vast knowledge of tasty and simple recipes that even I can follow! Because of his suggestions I have been able to present a meal fit for a King. Please share my comments with your staff and I hope you value them as much as I do! Do not even bother with the deli at this location, it is beyond horrible. I placed an order on the kiosk at the front of the store, and 30 minutes later when my order was not complete I inquired about it, and I was told rudely "I don't see an order here" and the person turned away and finished cleaning the counter. No apologies, no offering to help me with anything. Pretty poor customer service. I wasted half an hour walking around the store waiting for an order to be complete and never got the items. I've had issues with this deli in the past with it taking forever to get two or three items, this was the final straw. We are loyal to boars head products, and there is another store a mile or two down the road that I will be patronizing instead. read more

The new upgrades to Stop & shop makes me go here. Love their weekend prices especially on their bell peppers deals. The produce is fresh during my weekend visits. I get to shop loads of veggies for their great price nothing can beat that. Other than that they have ready made foods available at the counters and also couple of salad and soup station. The rest is similar to the old super market model. If you have the member/rewards card you save couple more bucks and earn some discount on fuel! read more

I grew up a Sox fan, I loved the Pats when they were awful and I go to Stop and Shop because my mom took me as a kid. That's pretty much why I go here. In NPS language, I'm a passive. I've had good experiences here and I've had bad experiences. It's a clean store and I know where everything is. It's not the cheapest and not the priciest. I wish supermarkets differ coated themselves on service like Trader Joes and Whole Foods do. Until that happens I'll go here because it's clean and well lit. read more

The deli department regularly takes 10+ minutes to serve you. I got my ticket that is timed-stamp 2:19. It is 2:34 and I am still waiting... Otherwise the store is clean and generally well-stocked. Lines to pay can be hit-or-miss but generally they move at a good pace. Prices are decent for this area. Often the store brands are cheaper than brand-names, even with coupons. read more

Ok it looks cleaner and newer so I gave an extra star. But the layout is horrible, half the stock they used to have and same old lack of attention to detail. Messy shelves, drippy meat, cold wet rotting produce. 1-2 available checkouts for more than 12 items without baggers. With the self checkouts only meant for small purchases now tried using the hand scanners and twice they were not available to use. read more

This is a great Stop n Shop. Fresh produce and great selection of seafood and meats. All of the staff is great with the exception of one cashier (there is always one..). Love the Stop n Shop sales with my card. This is my go to grocery store. If I need a special cut of meat or a far out ingredient I would go to a specialty grocery, but this Stop n Shop more than meets my needs. read more

They never have registers open. It sucks when you only have a few items and there is no express lane. I wound up waiting in line behind a number of people with large carriages. The self checkouts don't work, or don't take cash. I try to avoid this store, but sometimes it's not possible. I'm still in line. It's been about 10 minutes since I started this review. The deli counter at this location is consistently understaffed, it's the absolute WORST! The past three times in a row it has taken over 20min to get service. Using the Kiosk was just as bad. I've brought the understaffing levels up to store management twice. Today was the last day I shopped at any Stop and Shop location. Been waiting in line at the deli for 20 minutes now so thought I'd write a review. btw there are four people behind there and they are moving at a snail's pace. In addition to this, their fish is terrible. It is so unfresh it's ridiculous. It smells so bad. Fish departments shouldn't smell if they were fresh. The produce usually molds and spoils within a day. The chicken is spongy and full of water. Go elsewhere. We go to a fish market for our fish and whole foods for our meats. I was just shopping at the South Windsor Stop and Shop. It was at about 6:00 P.M. on a Tuesday and the store was pretty busy. When I went to check out, there were only 2 (human) cashiers and each line (including the self-service lanes) was 4 or 5 people deep (this seems to be a common occurrence). I then went to the service desk to request an additional cashier and was told that they were "short staffed" despite the fact that 3 employees were just hanging around the customer service desk!! I requested that the manager be contacted about my request, but observed no change in the situation before finally reaching the to checkout. I am going to contact the manager and see what she has to say. I will update this review later, but right now I am looking for other places to shop. read more

This is the WORST grocery store I've been in. Their deli is habitually understaffed. In general the staff is slow, unmotivated and disinterested. This is a good little store that isn't so little. It has almost everything that you could need. The best part of this store is the meat counter, where you can go for custom orders. I find it very hard to find pork cutlets in most supermarkets, but anytime that I go in, they'll cut them right up for me. Stop & Shop often has higher prices than their competition, but they have everything that I need in a convenient location. Plus, I love that they have good pizza dough available to purchase by the deli. read more

This Stop and Shop is one of the worst I've been in. Got there early - around 8:00 a.m. and one of the doors on one side to get in was still locked and the other kept opening and closing! They are rarely fully stocked, messy and at times down-right dirty. Was in there on Sunday and half the meat was past the "Sell By" date, and a complete mess - you had dig through the drippy chicken packages to find what you were looking for because nothing was stocked in the right places...ugh. Of all the stop and shop locations I've been to this one definitely takes the cake. The store is very clean very well organized and all employees are completely willing to help you if you seem lost. I have yet to have a negative experience in the store no matter what I need they always have it in stock or at least something very similar. This location is much better then either Manchester or Windsor and I'll keep coming back here. The deli and seafood sections are superb, produce is always absolutely fresh, and the deals absolutely can't be beat at times. Sometimes the customer service is hit or miss, but I go there often enough I've come to understand just some people have bad days other days they could be the employee of the year we are only human in fact. The selection itself is worth mentioning from the organic sections to the meat to the bakery it's all very very well made and presented. This is become one of my favorite grocery stores especially since the remodel. read more

Last week I went to the store to buy eggs and they had a stale date. People need to check the dates on the bread and milk.

The customer service desk in this store was awful today!!! I went there to get a money order today for $269.00 dollars and the woman that was getting the money order for me only gave me a $100.00 dollar money order after I gave her 270.00 dollars!!! then I did not notice this until I got home!! had to drive all the way back to South Windsor from East Hartford to get the correct money order amount!! only to hear the manager tell me that I had to wait till tomorrow to get the correct amount back!! because the Western Union machine was not able to read the correct amount till tomorrow!! are they seriously kidding me? the woman who made this mistake in my opinion should be written up or fired for this stupid mistake that she made!!! now I have to drive back up there tomorrow to get the correct money order amount!!! I will never go back to this store ever again after this issue is cleared up!!!! this was the worst experience of my life!! never get a money order from this Stop and Shop whatever you do ever!!! this was not very responsible of this store to make me go thru this awful situation!!!! when this was clearly not my fault but the woman;s fault who worked there that made the mistake who gave me the money order in the first place!!! not a happy customer whatsoever!! :( read more

There are many great things about this store, you can find out which High School student is dating who, just listen to the clerks in the deli department or the cash registers as they ignore you. You can find out that Stop & Shop has done a study that by having 1 register open and 3 self helps, the probability that the "assistant" for the self help line will NOT be available to help you when their machine decides it has never heard of carrots before and starts flashing "assistance required" is a guaranteed certainty. On a plus note, if you are buying beer through self check out, they study your ID as closely as ....well lets just say I didn't realize my South Windsor Library Card that expired 4 years ago would help me get drunk. You can, if you are careful, notice that the price you pay and the price on the little signs in the meat department are sometimes screwed up. You will CERTAINLY learn that the help desk closes LONG before the store. Bottom line the management of the store cares as much about customer service as politicians care about what you want....in other words they are horrible read more

I agree with other posters in that this location is very poorly managed. I, too, only end up there out of convenience. This past Saturday morning, there was only 1 register open. People were lined up about 6 deep. The cashier, bagger and another employee all stood around talking while the customer being "waited on" bagged her own groceries. This is a common occurrence at this location. I now usually shop at Big Y and there is no comparison. You may pay a little more, but the quality of their produce and meat far exceeds that of this Stop & Shop - and you are checked out very quickly as they always have enough cashiers and baggers on hand. read more

Customer service is HORRIBLE and the employees need to be retrained in where items are located. I just ended a 14 hour shift and went in to get some seltzer waters and wraps. Drained and tired, i asked an employee where they have wraps and he gives me a "uhhhhhhhhhh they should be right on your left when you enter from that way (pointing to the opposite side of the store) like RIGHT there." So i get there and "right there" on the left is the floral section. Then i ask someone else who was near me and he says its in the spanish food section. I had already been there so i clarify that i am looking for just sandwich wraps but he insists that wraps are in that aisle. I get there and of course, its tortilla wraps. SO with a cart that has messed up wheels to begin with and filled with 4 boxes of seltzers, i managed to find them in no where close to where either employees directed me. Then the lines were long, i went to self checkout. An employee was standing RIGHT at the end of my lane and proceeded to just stare at me then look at his phone while im struggling with the waters. read more

This used to be a great store!! They recently remodeled the store, although it looks really nice, its now layed out really bad. You will be searching all over the place to find what you need. The way they have things on the shelves makes no sense, makes it very difficult to learn the new lay out. Some of the isles are nice and wide and others nice and narrow, forget about pushing your cart through if there is someone else in the isle, you get to just hurry up and wait for them to search, Plan on packing a lunch to take with you as you will be in the store for a very long time read more

I love this store, but recently I'm frustrated. I'm a serious morning person, and I like to go grocery shopping early. Store opens at 6 am M-Sat, and hey, I don't expect everything to be up and ready at that time, but the last few weeks even by 7:30 much of the produce is still covered, lights aren't on in several of the aisles, olive bar out but no serving spoons...I think an hour and a half into being open (I've seen this on a Friday and a Saturday) they should be ready to go.
