Arriving at 7am on a weekday, there was no one else here which meant for a peaceful exploration of the grounds and viewing the lighthouse from the outside. The tower is 2 1/2 stories tall and is built of limestone on a slight rise over Sodus Point. From here you can look down to the harbor and see the Sodus Pier Light. We only checked out the lobby area and the gift shop. The tour itself was $8 but our group chose not to see it today. Lots of other historical items can be seen in the lobby. We walked around the lighthouse and saw the original location directly behind the building. Beautiful views, just a bit windy.

BEAUTIFUL LIGHTHOUSE IN CAPE VINCENT, NY…read more====================================== My husband and I drove out to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse on Friday, November 15, 2024 while my son was at work. We should have checked the hours a bit better because Google said it was open, but it was closed for the season. It was still pretty from the outside, but very cold with the wind. This lighthouse is located at the end of the Great Lakes on Lake Ontario and the beginning of the St. Lawrence River. The property consists of three acres of land that was donated by Captain John Tibbetts in the early 1820's. In 1985 the new tower was built and is still in operation today. It has the only Fresnel lens still in operation on Lake Ontario. It can be seen from sixteen miles away. A foghorn was added and put into service in 1896. Down below there is a telescope that visitors can use. Points of interest are marked on the railing. If you are visiting the North Country I highly recommend a visit to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse.

Awesome news until you have to get any form of work done. It was rumoured that the Lighthouse had WiFi and I had no choice in the matter. Found between the bridge to the US and Mallorytown Landing, the Lighthouse has long been a place that campers and locals would come to for necessities and the elements of civilization. The WiFi isn't the only indication that they've stepped up their game. Firstly, there's a gas station if your car or boat happen to have been caught out. You're also able to camp there. They are a registered campground and you're more than welcome to stay over. They have all the tuck shop faves such as cold drinks, snacks, maps, newspapers, and probably the tastiest coffee in Mallorytown (which admittedly may be the equivalent of being the best hockey team in Dubai, but it is good stuff and it isn't Tim Horton's). You're also able to grab a sandwich that's made daily (or made to order if you ask nicely) and homemade soup that is also made daily. Not hungry? They also offer a movie rental service that is as current as most independently owned movie stores. Oh, and if you're thirsty, they're also a fully licensed LCBO that has for its size a great selection of beer, wine, and sprits. After I was done stealing their WiFi, I was able to buy tins of Sapporo, Grolsch, Gösser, and a bottle of Casillero Del Diablo's 2007 Shiraz. Not bad at all for a campground.
