The museum takes you through the history of the whaling industry on Nantucket with historical artifacts and documents from this time. The museum also has a full sperm whale skeleton on display. I was truly in awe by the items we saw on the display. It was educational and I feel I learned a lot. The museum is two floors worth of exhibits and a rooftop deck where you can look out onto the surrounding island. The museum also offered lectures, discussions, and documentaries you could engage with throughout the day. When we arrived they had a schedule displayed for the days events. I felt this was worth the cost of admission and was a must see stop on our trip to Nantucket.

Buy a pass and visit the other Nantucket Historical Association facilities, like Howden House, Great Lights, Fire Station, Old Goal, etc. Great take. Every year they have a rotating exhibition. History of Nantucket, history of whaling, history of baskets (also at Howden House on upper Main Street). Other special events include parties, fund raisers and the Festival of the Trees. There are many artifacts which most ages will find to be very interesting. My kids (7,10) both had a great time here. The caboose is also a great attraction as patrons are allowed to go through it. The volunteer in the museum the day we went was a gentleman named Lee. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable. If you're at all interested in trains and history this is a must see.

Fact: Joseph Atwood's career at sea began at the age of ten years old which was normal at the time. He felt bad so he waited for me half way up and then all of a sudden I got a burst of energy and sped past him. He was shocked and said I waited for you and then you left me in the dust. When we got to the top it was fun to look around the city and see the ocean. Lots of history here and we are so grateful for the memories made. Also at the base there are shaded areas to sit with great views of the harbor and also an elevator to take you to commercial street. When you first come in there is a gift shop and a art museum on one side and a Provincetown museum on the other. The people that work there are extremely friendly and knowledgeable not only about the history but also things to do in the area
