Lovely hike on the Monday morning of a cool and gray late spring day. I parked in the campground of Paso Picacho with my California State Park pass that I checked out at my local library.
I've done this hike before, and I like to do the circular hike and start with the climb up to the peak and then circle around on the California riding and hiking trail that bleeds into the cold stream trail back to the beginning of Stonewall peak.
The trail up is approximately 2 miles and the trail back around is another 3.2 miles or so. I would recommend doing this rather than going up and down because you get a different viewpoint on the way back and you get to see where the horses go on the trail through the meadows And you get a great perspective of Cuyamaca.
There were lots of wildflowers today and the California white lilacs were blooming, and there were lots of birds singing, and it was just a delightful day with only one other person on the trail. A wonderful day for meditation and seen God's creation in all its glory. read more
