I've visited Stoneleigh Lanes a couple of times for birthday parties. Stoneleigh Lanes is a smallish, duckpin bowling establishment. Both birthday parties we attended came with shoe rentals, two hour bowling, a table setup and pizza. What's good? The bowling. My kids enjoyed their time learning how to bowl. The lanes held up well, no issues with ball returns or pin setup while they bowled. Bumpers were setup and taken down quickly if needed. The workers. They were attentive to the parties and very helpful. The fries. During the second party visit my kids were hungry before the pizza was served. We got a large fry. I thought the fries were pretty good. What's meh? The pizza crust. I'm a total crust guy and the crust they use isn't great. Mad props that they make their own pizzas (or at least put the cheese and pepperoni on themselves. The fry cooking time. They took a while from when they were ordered to when they were done. They were served hot but the wait seemed longer than it should. Can't imagine what it is like if a bunch of people are ordering food. read more

We brought our granddaughter there and had a wonderful time. Parking is the main challenge, but we were lucky in back of the building. When you consider the fun we had, the price was appropriate. We were early, so no problem finding a lane. The place is clean, has nice snacks, good restrooms, and shoes are cleaned after each use. Duckpin bowling is great fun for the entire family. We just moved to Hampden/Baltimore/Maryland/the Mid-Atlantic. So I thought someone was messing with me when they explained duckpin bowling. When I understood it was a real thing, I knew I had to try it. I did a Google search for duckpin bowling alleys and found Stoneleigh Lanes. We live in Hampden, so it was a quick drive over. When we drove up, I didn't even understand where the bowling alley was! To my surprise, it's a basement bowling alley, so it just has a door in the shopping center where Villagio Cafe is. Then you go down a staircase and into a time warp! Nothing in Stoneleigh Lanes has been renovated. It's like a retro dream. It's a little divey, sure. But it has a lot of charm, too. The couple that were at the counter were very friendly and spent a lot of time explaining duckpin bowling to us. It was really fun, because duckpin bowling was totally new to us and there was a steep learning curve! But also because the place has a lot of retro, divey charm. They don't have much in the way of food and drinks (I think they sell sodas and snacks at the concessions), but it's BYOB and people who showed up after us definitely brought a six pack or two with them. Went today for a birthday party. Staff was nice and a nice family place; however, when the place picked up with more customers the wait for food was almost 45 minutes for a cheeseburger and fries. I was told there would be a wait but didn't realize it would have been close to an hour wait. In any event, I finally received my cheeseburger but decided to take it home. When I arrive home, there was let any cheese on my burger. Not that huge of a problem but the fries that came with the burger were not done.... at all. When ordering, please consider the wait time even if you've put your order in before others. Had a great time but disappointed by the food paid for and received. Amazing, old school, and perfect. Visited here for the first time in 20 years since my college days and the place has not changed one iota. When you descend to this basement bowling alley, you will find The staff is super friendly, the lanes are well maintained, and the establishment is clean. Don't let the royal blue and purple decor burn your eyes - instead, enjoy the sound of wooden duckpins clashing against each other as you defeat your friends and family. Prices are extremely affordable - $10 per person per hour, and between my girlfriend and I, we managed three games each, including a 145 to cap the session, which I'm told is a pretty high score for duckpins - sign me up for this any day. Sixteen lanes are at your disposal here, so i highly recommend a visit. I've bowled duckpins in Connecticut and its a really nice change of pace from regulation bowling. This was a fun evening with the grandkids, but the place is antiquated. The duck pin lanes are not level( the balls literally rolled from one side to another and looked like a candid camera joke). This place is not great. Duckpins only, overly lit with fluorescent lights, you have to keep score yourself they don't tell you how AND the projectors don't work. They came in half way through our game and removed the bumpers without us asking or telling us ahead of hand and refused to put them back up because were "too old" mean while and middle age man throwing the balls full force has them up one lane over. We went from bowling a 200 point game to a 20.... not kidding. We're not good. We're not slamming the balls into the bumpers, we're just trying to have fun. But it's hard to have fun when you get 7 gutter balls in a row. We had an awful time. read more

I came here on Saturday night with my cousins. At $13/person with shoe rentals, price is reasonable (even for a New Yorker). The food and drinks are pricey (think along the lines of movie theater concessions), but the BYOB policy definitely helps. The place is very old so don't expect fancy computerized scoreboards on flat screen TVs. I was surprised to find a new jukebox (you know, the kind they have at TGI Friday's). I was told the place has been around for decades and the old-school bowling systems takes you back in time. One of my cousins was stressing about arriving early to get a lane, but the place was quiet for a Saturday night and only half the lanes were occupied. Went here a few months ago with friends. We had such a great time. It was my first time trying out duckpin bowling, and I liked it. At first I had no clue where Stoneleigh Lanes was because it's so obscure passing by on the street. It's literally on the small corner of all the shops. Inside it's a little older. So, if you're looking for a more modern feel, this isn't the place for you. You have to manually score you game. I personally loved the throwback feel of it. Even though it's older looking on the inside, they do play modern music. I also saw a lot of families, so it seems like a good fit for that. The employees I interacted with were alright. They aren't winning superior customer service awards, but they weren't necessarily rude either. I did get nachos, and they were pretty gross. However, food aside, it's a pretty good place. read more

You get exactly what you expect from a basement bowling place - it's a cheap and fun activity, especially for rainy days. They seem to run some cool events as well, and i liked that it was BYOB. However, I can't give it more than 3 stars because our lanes kept freezing, and would not clear! I couldn't count how many times we had to wait to get help, or to be moved to a different lane! The staff was very helpful, but it's pretty ridiculous to have to start games on 4 different lanes in a two-hour period. I recommend that the owner upgrade some of the equipment. read more

I've been to this location numerous times after discovering it a few months ago. At this point, I make just about anyone who comes to Baltimore come out to this place to see how they like duckpin. Everyone seems to love it, and always wants to go back the next time they're in town. I personally prefer it to traditional bowling. During the summer, this place seemed to be a lot more busy. It always helps to make things more exciting when you're not the only ones in the place. Strangely enough, it seems that once school was back in session, everyone bailed on this place. I have only had one poor experience with this place, and that was when they had a local band playing, instead of the usual satellite radio. I think the type of music depends on who's working at the moment. If you're college-aged like myself, you'll be lucky if the younger guys are in charge. Otherwise, you'll end up listening to 80s music and feeling like you're in a time warp, living a night in your mom and dad's teenaged shoes until you're forced to walk up the stairs and back into the real world at 1am. "What the heck is duckpin bowling???" Transitioning from North to South can be tough when they throw curve balls like a new kind of bowling at you. The balls are the size of bocce balls? The pins are mini, too? You get three rolls? What is this madness?! All kidding aside, after we got the hang of how this game was unique, we have always had a blast here. It literally looks like a hole in the wall from the street, it's one doorway in a small shopping strip. But when you go downstairs, you see a full (mini) bowling alley! It usually gets pretty packed by the end of the night too, especially when it's Rockin' Bowl which I believe is Fridays. One night of the week they also have a local band play for a few hours. The owner and staff are really friendly. There is a basic concessions area but it's also BYOB which we've never actually done even though we probably seem a bit inebriated just because we're so goofy. It may be old but its still amazing. One of the many wonders of Baltimore! Came here with a bunch of family, its great for the kids and its easier than regular bowling. A group of five friends and I were very excited to have Friday night plans of trying duck pin bowling for the first time at this cute local byob bowling alley. We saw on their website they had a 10pm-close deal on on Fridays and Saturdays. However, when we got there right at 10pm they told us they were closing in 10 minutes? If your business is doing that poorly on a Friday night, why would you turn away a large group right at the start time of your Friday night deal? Why even have a Friday night deal if you don't even plan to stay open late on Fridays? Had a great date night playing duckpin bowling, which we had never tried before. Used a groupon voucher, for two people for two hours of play and a 9'pizza. The cut off time for the groupon customers to start a game was 7:30 because of another event that started at 9:30pm. We got there 30 mins late because of traffic, but still squeezed in 5 games in a 1hr 1/2. Was told on the phone they didn't take them same day, but we'd be ok. We get there about 15 minutes early, after stopping to a liquor store, as they are BYOB (which is fantastic), only to be told they're closing early by the cashier (I assume the same person that took my call). We "won" an Orioles duckpin ball from them at a local church school carnival 2 years ago. For a year, we called and left messages and stopped in and left messages for a manager or owner to contact us and deliver on our "prize". They have never delivered, are disorganized and don't care. That's a stupid way to lose business (the carnival is for my 2 kids' school). Wow, if I had my own ball, maybe I'd be inspired to go play! I think my kids might. The place is a bit rough around the edges and run down, but you'd expect that with a vintage place. This place has been in business since 1946! Yes its worn and needs to be updated, but hey you are experiencing a piece of old time history. It is in a basement, which is great in the sunny, summer heat! Everyone was friendly, we got to bowl for an hour and rent shoes for about 40$. Duckpin bowling is such a kitschy Baltimore tradition that you have to try it. Really great for kids because regular bowling bowls are so heavy. We went here last night for our friend's birthday. The clerk assigned us a lane in between two groups, and having a large group ourselves, including a baby, we simply asked to be moved to a different lane, as 2/3rds of the alley was empty. The clerk proceeded to tell my friend to "go f*ck himself", and then threw all of us out without refunding our money. I've never been treated like this anywhere, for any reason, let alone for making a simple, reasonable request. I am absolutely appalled at the behavior of the staff here. Overall experience was okay...I do like that it was BYOB. The atmosphere is a little more retro and you have to keep track of the score with pencil and paper which isn't too bad. Complaints include the group of children next to us who were all standing in a line next to the ball return and taking all of the balls (parents were not close by) and the fact that the lanes seemed to mess up a few times because of the pins and had to be reset. To be very honest, this place is a little divey and grimey but in the best way possible. I'm not from here, so Duckpin bowling was something completely new for me and I had a blast! It's BYOB which is awesome and it's great trying to figure out your bowling score by hand as you continue to drink.
