I recently played five of the courses as part of an annual extended weekend with a group of guys. We never had much wait time and course were in great shape. Stoatin Brae and Bedford Valley feel like the higher quality courses, but the Stonehedge courses and Gull Lake East were also challenging but fun. Service on SB was weak for a top course (no water stations, no beverage cart) and food service at all but GLE is minimal. Otherwise, all the staff were friendly and provided great service. We also stayed in two of the Villas units. As others have said, these accommodations seem designed for groups who don't care too much about luxury or the small niceties that might make a place special. Inside the soaps, towels, sheets, furniture and decor were along the lines of a Red Roof Inn. The buildings/rooms are dated and show it. Ours was one of the recently "redone" ones but still had mold issues in the bathroom, a thick layer of dust on top of the fridge, and other signs of being poorly cared for. There was a kitchen that was woefully under equipped -- no serving bowls, no paper towel, no dish soap, not dish brush, no oven mitts, and the list goes on. There is a small microwave, coffee maker and good over and fridge. The "resort" has no real amenities for guests, other than some non-course putting greens around the units. As said in another review, no lake access, no lake view. In the end, our group fit their target audience. We put up with the accommodations because they are what is available and provide easy access to the enjoyable golf that itself is in a location that makes it easy for our group to meet up each year.

Walking up to the club house the grounds keeper turned the mower in my direction by the parking lot and I took a rock to the face. Guy on the mower just looked, no wave, no apology. Walk in and ask the lady about mowers not having a guard on them after telling her a rock was sent from the mower and hit me in the face and her reply was, "it's a zero turn. Shit happens" then she gets an attitude with me. "You seem upset, so just go get a cart and play". WTF? I won't be back this season. Only reason for the 4 is the course. Staff get 0

I completely understand management having to weigh the economics of keeping the halfway house open during the fall - totally get it. But there's no getting around the fact that the lack of food/drink at the course places Island Hills a distant second to other area courses that keep their halfway houses open during fall play. I was working in the snack bar with Melissa who was very misleading with who she actually is as a person. To the customers, she's very nice and smiley towards, however from day one of my employment she said things to me like "if I had some prozac I'd give it to you" and telling me how I was never going to make it in the real world because I wasn't constantly smiling. She also called me incompetent multiple times. One duty of the job was to make the food for the customers, and on multiple occasions called the sandwiches I made "atrocious" and kept saying things like "my god I wouldn't pay $8.50 for that, would you?" This manager has no skills when it comes to employees. There was one girl there who she consistently favored and adored. She constantly bad mouthed all the other employees that had previously worked there saying how she wasn't going to hire them back, and called them incompetent for leaving bread crumbs under the hot dog roller or for leaving beer under the cabinet. She has no right to be speaking about employees like that. I worked 3 shifts at this golf course, and instead of having the dignity to say something as simple as "yeah it's not working out, we have to let you go" they just ended all form of communication with me. I gave my boss (Melissa) my schedule for the week, and she didn't ever get back with me. So instead of being professional, and at least providing some communication, they decided to be completely immature and just not contact me again. 0/10 one of the worst places I've ever worked.
