There are vegetables (garlic, corn, tomatoes, salads) and fruit (apples, pears, berries) for sale and they are all neatly placed in covered wood bins. There is a money slot at the near end of the farm building into which you place your bills and coins.. Right next to the money-slot is a very friendly, happy pet-able medium pig (fun for kids). The sign is about the median half-way point between the actual farm machinery and the road side stand. If you pass the 'Welcome' sign still just make a left onto the property and make a turn! When I came here in the Spring I bough some onions, garlic and peppers. All were delicious and did not taste like evil pesticides or chemicals. On hot days the stands are always covered by a wood awning, and even in the rain: come and make some kitchen cooking purchases to help a small farmer in the lower Hudson Valley out! The neighborhood has many many public housing residents. I find the elderly frequently shopping here. The employees speak English and Spanish. I can't compare their prices with other vendors because sometimes I don't see items priced. I do know the customers congregate around the other vendor and I often wonder why. When I asked him where the beans were, he slammed the tomatoes he had in his hand down on the table so hard I thought the table would crack. I thought the market closes at 4 pm. I guess he didn't care if the beans rotted in his employer's truck instead of selling them. I went down to the vegetable stand near the 175 st bus depot where the guy had green beans for $2 a pound. It was not inexpensive but I like knowing my food doesn't have GMO's so worth it. I have to say I had never actually cooked a grass-fed steak myself but the lady there told me to be careful with it since it could easily dry out and get tough if over-cooked. She also said to cook it in half the time as a regular steak and she was definitely right about this. I Googled how to cook and everyone said to either slow cook or sear with Olive oil, s&p on it. I just happened to have cooked some bacon and decided to use that as my fat to sear it. I almost overcooked to well done and that was with taking half off the normal time I would have used for a medium. However, the flavor was outstanding and worth an hour to get more. Next time I will sear 3 min, flip and stick in hot oven or grill for 3, then let rest for about 7. By the way, I bought eggs too and they were also great.
