Run far away from this place!! Horrible experience! Zilahy and his colleague should have never done chiropractic work if they thought I needed a MRI.
I feel that I was misguided and taken advantage of for having good insurance coverage. I had made an appointment to get acupuncture done here. The day I arrived for my appointment I was immediately asked if I have insurance. I said yes, but that I wasn't expecting acupuncture to be covered, and would pay upfront for services. The woman at the desk asked me to give her my insurance anyway. She commented that they do in fact take my insurance and they will put it through to see what is covered. When I saw Dr Zilahy, he too asked about insurance. I told him I was there for acupuncture, and that I gave my information to the front desk. He asked the name of my insurance. I gave it to him, and he said it was a good insurance. He then proceeded to tell me that he doesn't advise I get acupuncture for my shoulder pain, that I should get chiropractic work done instead. I told him I didn't want the chiropractic work. He persisted and said that doing acupuncture is like putting a bandaid on the situation, that it is not going to fix the situation like chiropractic work would. Not knowing if there was any truth to that statement, I reluctantly, agreed to go the chiropractic route, and he gave me a referral to go get X-rays on my shoulder. Getting no acupuncture or chiropractic work done that 5 minute visit, but charging my insurance $289.
I returned for my second visit with the X-ray results. The front desk informed me that my insurance is going to cover the chiropractic visits and my copay would just be $42. Dr Zilahy showed me my X-rays and explained that the problem was my neck (even though I didn't have any neck pain). He said my shoulder looked perfectly fine, despite the pain and lack of mobility in it. He proceeded to crack my neck and back. It took all of 5 minutes. He just cracked 3 spots. He then said I need to see him 3x a week for like 4-6 weeks. I asked if X-rays would be taken after the 6 week mark to show the difference and he said it would be years before I saw any changes in the X-rays; but that I would definitely feel better. I decided to make the commitment and scheduled a months work of appointments at the front desk. My 3rd visit was the same as the last two, an uneventful 5 minute session with a $42 copay and $289 charge to insurance. By this visit, it became very clear why Zilahy wanted me to go the chiropractic route verses the $60 acupuncture route! Even if my visit was 10 minutes, that still equates to over $1,800 per hour. No wonder why insurance is so expensive these days.
On my 4th visit, Dr Zilahy flew south for the month, so I was scheduled to see the other chiropractor in the office. The visit was the same as the other 5 minute sessions. The office has about 6-8 small, fairly dingy, definitely dated, treatment rooms in back, and the doctors run it like an assembly line.
After my 4th visit, I started to notice numbness and tingling in my fingers. At my 5th visit, I explained that I was experiencing numbness and tingling in fingers. The chiropractor said that it might be a good idea to get an MRI. That maybe there is something they missed. He then proceeded to crack my neck, upper and lower back (without the MRI he suggested a minute ago).Later that afternoon, the numbness tingling spread to my upper palm and parts of my arm!! I called the office right away, and cancelled my all appointments. The woman at the front desk said that she would have the doctor call me. I never received a call back.
The extra star is for getting in quickly, not having to wait too long to see the doctor, and the friendly woman at the front desk.
