Staff accompanied us in the elevator to our respective floor. This show had signature drinks and concessions near the elevators. There's a restroom on the floor with the stage. Blackbox feel. The show we caught felt like an alt-comedy production out of Chicago. So grand! There's street and lot parking. Keep in mind, it's downtown so mind the local signs. It's a very intimate setting with not a single bad seat in the house. KDT has a small (donations recommended) bar with a few local beers. Side note...please don't be that person that takes a beer and doesn't bother to throw a few bucks in the jar. My wife and I would be more than willing to see another show here on our next visit to Dallas.

The theater is just a few minutes walking from my house, and I always pass it on my way to yoga. I finally made it to one of their Thursday night shows for the most recent production of Edward Albee's "The Goat/Who is Sylvia" (a wacky but sad story line involving a man's love affair with a goat). For those of you who don't know, Albee also wrote "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf." I was very pleased when i walked into the theater because it seemed to be a newly rennovated warehouse space with plenty of seating. Patrons were just hanging out and having wine and snacks in a little cafe area. There was an awesome art exhibit displayed with sculpures made of cigarette boxes and paintings, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the artist. It was just a cool space to hang out in before the show. A few minutes before show time, everyone lines up at the entrance of the theater. Once you get in, it's open seating. It's not very big (maybe 100 seats?) but almost every seat is a good one with no obstructions (ampitheatre style set up). The set design was surprisingly professional. The show was great, and you really get to feel the emotion (and this particular show was VERY emotional) becuase everyone is so close to the stage and the actors. I would just advise you to bring a coat or a sweater because the theater is chilly! I highly recommend this theater, particularly if you're into a more informal experience. You can walk in the day of the show and purchase a ticket, and the prices are right!

An interesting concept, but I don't know why anyone would think they needed to change Shakespeare's writing!!! The Taming of the Shrew has been performed for over 400 years, so it didn't need any rewriting! The cast was excellent, and thankfully, they left alone some of the famous scenes like, the first meeting of Patrucheo and Katherine; and the famous "sun and moon" scene. Definitely a show worth seeing and a lot of fun for the whole family!

When you arrive you'll want to allow time to get through security/ticketing. Walking in you'll feel like you've been transported in time to an old Hollywood-style regal and lavish theatre. We sat on the upper level for this concert. Luckily the seats were pretty open on our row but may be a bit tight if you are sitting next to someone. This theatre is iconic and definitely worth stopping by for a show at least once.

They spend a good bit of funds on sets, costumes, and props -- they actually have some of the best props in the city. Since ICT operates as the full community theatre, which means they do not pay their actors. That frees up some money for more visual infrastructure. Their season subscription is a good savings and will give you a good chance to get a flavor of the sort of talent that gets drawn to the company. If you like, keep attending. You'll enjoy. They often produce their shows at the Dupree theatre at the Irving Arts Center, which they use well.

When we first arrived in the parking lot, we were a little apprehensive because it is in the same strip mall with a Dollar General and the entire shopping center looks a bit run down. However, the performance more than made up for the location. We were greeted at the door by actors already in character and the entire venue was set up to feel like a bar/night club. They even had a small selection of water, soda, and beer and a bartender and a waitress. I loved the way the actors used the entire space, sometimes even behind us. I also liked the use of mixed media. I'm not sure if every performance is like this, but I am definitely interested to go to another show and see what they come up with.

You can Bring Your Own Booze (BYOB) which also saves you money. We brought bottles of beer, and the box office had a bottle opener we could use to pop them open. There was no corkage fee, but they aren't going to be providing glasses or ice, nor will they pour your beverage for you. If you need a snack during the show, they offer some concessions at the box office window. It looked like candy, chips, and canned soda were available for sale. Before the late show, someone setup a table to sell multi-colored popcorn. It's not dinner, but it will tide you over until you can eat a proper meal elsewhere. The venue is located in a business park with plenty of free parking outside. There was a police officer parked in the lot and making the rounds. Not sure if that is par, but the business park seemed like a clean and relatively safe area. It's not the Ritz, but it isn't dive bar quality either. The walls are painted black and decorated with colorful panels. Metal stacking chairs with built in cushions are lined up nicely with at least one small table squeezed in each row. You could move the chairs if you felt you needed a little more elbow room. There are no arm rests. The low table allows you to set your drinks and snacks down so you can clap for the entertainment, but you'll need to get there early to score a spot next to one. The front row has two, 3-seater, plush couches. We got there early enough to get one of those seats, but opted to avoid the potential punishment of sitting in the front row of a comedy show. The comics during the early show were from Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. It was mostly local talent. Both men and women performed short sets of maybe 10-15 minutes. There were about 5 different comics that performed during the early show. Each comic had a monologue with some gems and some duds. This is raw talent, not polished TV fodder, but entertaining just the same. The late show was a special show. I wish we could have stayed for it, as the publicity for it was originally how we found out about this place. The venue is also offering improv classes. You'll have to check their website for prices and a schedule. Improv classes are for everyone, and everybody who takes them can benefit from learning to think out of the box, to integrating spontaneous creativity in their life, and to fostering better communication with others. This place is a good bargain for those looking for a night out without breaking the bank. Since my hubby is cheap, I'm sure we will be back.
