Design & Mine - One of many inspirations signs you can make! Probably MY favorite.

Design & Mine

What a fantastic time and a fantastic venue. Design and Mine allows you to bring a group along with…read moreyour own beverages and snacks to a sign painting extravaganza. My experience here was with 8 girls from my daughters volleyball team along with the parents; we had food for the kids, and the parents of course had their own adult beverages to keep us occupied. We picked our signs well before the party and when we showed up the hosts explained to the girls how to select their stain and decorate their signs however they wanted. I love the freedom the girls had to roam and explore one anothers paintings; they were able to compare, collaborate and laugh. The staff did a fantastic job of keeping the girls focused enough to create beautiful signs, all the while having a great time to talk and mingle with one another. The place is clean and you are greeted with a smile when you walk in. The attitude from start to finish is positive and happy. You could spend time walking through the shop and reading the beautiful signs to get inspiration to create your own version. I will be organizing a neighborhood event and bringing them here, I think we would have a blast working with this place to provide a first stop for a party bus. This place would also be great for team building as you have the space and atmosphere for fun and positive thinking. Overall, this place is great for large or small groups and you leave with a beautiful piece of art you created yourself. Bravo to the owners of Design & Mine for creating a wonderful place to create fun art and memories.

I hadn't been to Rock Barrell for over 10+ years, but it was just as magical as I remember it! I…read morehad the grandkids for a sleepover and I decided that they should experience the magic! My 9 year old grandson wasn't too excited to go but once he stepped inside and saw a shark tooth, he was all over it! Even hubby was so impressed and glad he tagged along. My granddaughters found so many pretty things but I limited everyone to two items each. The girls each wanted a shell ring and a turtle jewelry pendant. HUGE selection of jewelry making supplies, including stone, jewels, metal findings, etc. and so many beautifully polished rocks and stone pieces and crystals. The prices seemed very reasonable. After we took the grandkids to the Perot museum last summer and they loved the huge rock displays, my oldest granddaughter wanted a rock tumbler for her birthday. We did fulfill that wish and even helped her tumble a couple of sets of rocks over the month long process. I brought our results with us to the store. I asked the young lady at the counter about what might have happened. The kind older man behind the counter walked by and asked so nicely if he might step in to help. He explained that rocks have different levels of hardness and we could probably get best results by tumbling all like rocks at a time. Makes perfect sense! I was just so impressed at how kind (to us and to each other) and helpful everyone was. I think it was a father (owner perhaps?) and daughter working together and the working relationship was beautiful to experience. Everyone had a great experience at Rock Barrell and can't wait to return!

A rock collectors paradise! Super helpful staff and so many rocks to choose from! Highly…read morerecommend!

And that is what separates good teachers from bad teachers. Yet another hallmark of a good teacher is the ability to teach children how to think, not what to think. Good teachers are not thought dictators. And that is part of my personal philosophy with my grandchildren, to put myself in their shoes and to teach them how to think. That's why I love places like Lakeshore Learning where I find educationally valuable gifts that equip my grandchildren how to learn - and gifts that are fun too. Next to giving experiences, that's the best investment I can make in them. And I am an investor in important things, not crap. - "Success is a choice; you choose it and work it out!
