This is the only place in town that offers indoor rock climbing. The new renovation was a great improvement. The only downside is needing to become belayed certified to actually use their big room, but I can see why it should be a safety precaution. If you are not, you can always use the auto belay and the bouldering rooms, those get pretty tall also. They frequently change their climbs and puzzles-- it's actually pretty cool and you will never be bored! The workers are pretty awesome and knowledgeable. There's this guy (most likely the owner) that oversees the biggest belaying room. He seems super chill, the employees even call him dinosaur. The atmosphere is super relaxing but also supportive. If you also get the membership, you save on your admission and you get discount on gear and food!

One of the best indoor gyms I have been to! This gym is state of the art. Giant walls with an aggressive overhang for lead climbing up to 5.14a in difficulty. Alex checked us in and took. Are of us. He got us certified for lead and was very informative and professional. Made us feel right at home. They have an awesome boulder wall with up to v10 in difficulty. They did have a kilter wall and and a tension board to train! Last but not least their weight gym had everything we needed to train during our trip

Great place for beginners and people of all skill levels. This was my first time climbing, but the auto belay system made me feel so safe and comfortable. The staff is really great too. This place is perfect for doing something active indoors away from the heat.

While on vacation in Albuquerque, Stone Age has been the ideal spot for us to take our kids (and their cousins) to let off some steam on a cold winters day. Though we had not been here in a while, all we had to do was sign some paperwork and perform a 5-minute demo of our knot-tying and belaying skills before they let us loose inside. This is yet another Albuquerque business that has moved to bigger digs; the new space is much more spacious than the old one. In fact, I think it may be the biggest indoor climbing gym I've ever been to! As before, they still have: -- Auto belayers on selected routes: allows you to climb without a human belayer. Sort of like a vacuum cleaner cord when you push the button - it pulls in slack but not powerfully; When you're done climbing, just push off and it lowers you to the ground quickly but gently. I wish they had these at Planet Granite in CA! -- "The boulder" offers a variety of short routes in varying difficulties, from expert to beginner, with a "top" area for sitting or standing. Short enough to not require ropes, and there's plenty of padding underneath. It is ideal for kids, who get to chill out on top as a reward for their efforts. Better than a babysitter, especially when the parents get to climb a little too. So happy to see this business thriving and expanding. Now only if they'd open a branch in the Bay Area!

Wow! Completely awesome! Incredible new space! The talk walls are great and there is room to spare! Love it! I was completely blown away!!!

(This review is my review from their original location. It all still applies, plus they have a shiny new look with higher walls and much more room!) I got my first taste of climbing at Stone Age years ago and have been a regular ever since. Great gym. There is always a good mix of TR, sport and bouldering routes and the levels go from easy (5.7 and VB) to very hard (5.13 and V9/10). The staff is helpful and friendly and the people who go to SA tend to be reflective of the general climbing community in NM: friendly, relaxed and welcoming. Its popularity makes for a crowded gym at times, but it is roomy enough that you can usually find an open route even when swamped. If you are an out-of-towner and looking for a place to climb, this is it. You can almost always find people willing to let you hop on a route or find a group of boulderers ready to share beta and encourage you. Like most climbing gyms, SA's bread and butter is birthday parties, so there tend to be a lot of kiddos around. I don't mind this at all, but if you don't like kids you might want to call in to see when the parties are being held. In addition to the climbing gym, SA has a small traditional gym with decent cardio equipment and free-weights. There is also a multi-use room where they hold classes (free for members and for day-pass holders) such as yoga and kettlebells and when not in use for classes or for birthday parties can be used by patrons for personal use. SA offers climbing classes from the very basic Intro to Gym Climbing and Fundamentals of Movement to Lead Climbing and AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor Course and Certification. All-in-all a great climbing gym and worth checking out.

Just recently started coming here. I go to the gym a lot and it can get boring sometimes so I wanted to try something different. It was a great experience the staff was very friendly in teaching us how to harness up and show us around the gym. It's not only just rock climbing, upstairs they have a weight and cardio room so that was pretty cool. It was a little expensive $20 for the day pass it would be better to get a membership $69 a month ideal if you plan on going a few times a week. I had a lot of fun either way and stayed for about 2 and a half hours before my arms got burned out it was a great alternative workout and cool way to challenge yourself. It's great on your mind as well because it really gets you thinking about your next move. Challenge yourself and check this place out.

Stone Age is the only one of its kind in the Albuquerque area. It is a great alternative to normal gyms, but just in case you want to lift, they have a small full sized gym upstairs- it's a win win for meat heads and hippies. Stone Age has enormous walls for sport rope climbing- I believe you need a 35-40 meter rope at minimum. They also have a vey large bouldering section where you will see many people literally hanging out. Stone Age prides themselves on being the largest indoor climbing gym in the southwest. Great staff and great management who seem to be really involved in the community. They teach many classes and are always willing to help. Some problematic areas for me: Since they basically have a monopoly going, they can make the prices however steep they desire. A day pass will run you about $15 not including rentals. Monthly membership is about $70. Student pass per semester $170. It can be worth it if you use your pass a lot. They also get extremely busy from 3-8: no parking and lots of people everywhere. I would suggest coming earlier or later - happy hour- meaning you can get a reduced price on a day pass and rentals.

My bandana is completely soaked with head sweat and cannot hold another bead, so I drip on the floor, on the equipment, everywhere (and yes, I try my best to clean up the mess with disinfectant wipes). True, I run super warm-blooded and I've always been a hot mess, but if you're looking for a brother who can testify, I'm here to spread the Republiq gospel: they'll work ya. More bullet points: + This gym is as diverse as it gets. Male and female coaches, dynamic equipment and machines, diverse ethnicities, ages, body types, class schedules, regimens. + Fair price. Before we signed up for Republiq, we scoped out every other option, and I mean everything: Crossfit, Defined, Orangetheory, Sports & Wellness, Chuze, Spenga, some Zumba-bullsh*t. Republiq rates are competitive, even cheap. + Locally owned, run by a no-nonsense couple (Reece and Noelle Killebrew) who seriously care for their clients. + Showers and lockers + Better music than my former gym (UFC), but generally club-centric, which helps an older guy like me know what the kids are listening to nowdays. Also, good to know that Eminem is still repping the same tired, angry shtick he was repping twenty years ago. + No kids classes or care, bummer. On occasion we have to bring our kiddo in, she keeps out of the way, staff looks the other way. + My bandana particularly bleeds for the SWEAT classes, these circuit, boot campy, cardio hardio killer classes that are always morphing and changing. There are also kicking and boxing classes, plenty of weights and machines, and personal trainers. + Best: Very few meatheads/gym rats, no drama, no clique-y vibes, just in-and-out, work hard, move on. This is critical to me, as I've come to accept that whether I wanna workout or not, regular fitness is a fact of life, for the rest of my life. If I'm gonna be there erryday erryday erryday, I'm there to sweat. My social life requires other routines, like beer.

We agreed to be charged $20 for September 2025 for putting this on hold. We were told we could not use their facilities for that month, September, but could resume at any time without further charges. We then decided to cancel after six months and informed them. Another $20 charge soon appeared on our credit card statement. Assuming this was an inadvert error, we followed up by contacting them by phone. We had been told when we put this on hold that canceling would not incur further chardes. We ended up calling numerous times, talking with their personnel including the manager at the Riverpoint office, Sean. We were told frequently he was "out of the office". We emailed, also, but he did not respond. Sean was very personable when we enrolled. In fact, no one ever got back to us about being charged $40 for both last September and after we canceled and not being able to use their facilities We only requested a $20 reimbursement for the second month we could not use their facilities. That's such a simple matter to resolve. Better Business Bureau was not an alternative since this corporation does not belong to it. We had no alternative but to resort to calling Sports and Wellness' regional office in Denver. The Denver office took all our information on our inability to resolve this and our attempts at talking with the ABQ office and were told they would relay all of this to Sean, who would get back to us. He never responded to us after the regional office's contact nor did they. Finally, we took this to the Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs of our concerns and the attempts to resolve this overcharge. first with their Albuquerque office, which then recommended filing with the state's AG. They have not responded to the AG's office. We've been told that this company has a very low rating. The AG's Consumer Affairs in Santa Fe will attempt once again to pursue this overcharge and for consumers inability to use facilities while charging for it. So, consumers should consider all these reviews. As a note, the AG's Consumer Affairs office recommend contacting them for such issues and will tract and act on these. Hopefully, their office can determine if these complaints are widespread or local.
