It was time to stop for gas and we were in the middle of nowhere but that's part of exploring rural America. There is a lot more nowhere than somewhere!
The gas pump was apparently quite old and did not take credit cards so I went inside. The interior is painted bright purple which is awesome! Sharon greeted me and was very welcoming, friendly and gracious. Her accent was so strong I felt like I was in another country but she was so kind, I really appreciated it. She explained I had to estimate an amount, pay in advance and if I didn't pump it all, the card would be refunded!
OK! No problem!
She asked if I was from Florida (she apparently looked at my license plate). I said yes and she asked how I came to be in Stokes, North Carolina? No problem! I briefly explained our destination today, our massive journey and we chatted a bit more about life. People here are so unbelievably friendly and respectful at the same time. It is like another world!
