They have combined a new learning and activity space within the aquarium; the Living Laboratory. In this part everyone can get up close to fish and other sea life in special low-level tanks. As interesting as aquariums are, they can often be quite boring but with the staff running regular demonstrations for the visitors and a chance to observe and properly get involved so for that reason it has to be one of the better ones that I have visited. There are many displays and activities in the Living Laboratory and they have tried their best to emphasise links between the live specimens and the museum's historic collections. Video conferencing facilities are also available, this allows to link through to behind the scenes activities, events in the Treasure House Theatre and other parts of the museum. Be sure to ring to find out what events they are running so you don't miss out.

There's a cafe', formal gardens, open spaces, band stand, crazy golf, pitch and put. A great place to walk in Autumn and Winter. They did have a regular farmers market but there seems to be an hiccup at present. There's also a kids zoo.

Would not recommend to anyone especially those of colour. however, for those of you who enjoy stingrays, could be a fun day out :D

Another great free park in Warrington…read more Forest Park is a lovely place for a wander, dog walking or a picnic. There are several hydes for bird watchers and a tower that looks out towards Trafford and Manchester. The little pond seems much smaller to me now that it did when I was younger but this is a lovely nature area and you can often see dragon flies and other insects and animals around the park. Theres a lot of peet around so some of the ground maybe a little springy. Theres a visitors centre with some information available and lovely clean modern toilets. There are also benches and picnic areas in the Park. Theres a good sized car park with plenty of shadey parts for you to park in. Its free and pretty so pay a visit!!!

If your unsure about the stop as the driver who will be more than happy to oblige. Birchwood Forest Park is part of a larger linear network of walks and cycleways which link together all over the Birchwood district of Warrington. You can get to Hag Fold, Birchwood Shopping Centre and Risley Moss to name but 3 locations. So its worth spending some time exploring! Be sure to call into the Rangers office as they have free maps of the area so you can follow them and see where all the paths go incase you get lost! Apart from offering information the Rangers office also have the all important public toilets which are also wheelchair accessable. The park itself has lots of pathways to explore, many of which have proper cover surfaces which again are perfect for those in wheelchairs or for those with pushchairs or prams. There is a large bird hide which you can climb up and see for miles! Theres some stunning views to be seen and of course lots of wildlife and birds too. You will need to take your own drinks and refreshments as there are no facilities here but there are plenty of picnic tables which is handy.

Windmill Animal Farm is fab for kids. I don't have kids but didn't have much trouble finding some -…read moremy friend desperately needed a day off. Problem solved. So off we go, it was a Saturday and gorgeous weather. So, we were hoping that it wouldn't be too busy given it was a Saturday and not raining. Well we weren't disappointed, although fairly busy, the farm staff were well organised and kept all us all in check. The kids and I started off on the steam train, with the idea that we would get a good idea of where everything was from the ride (well this is what I thought), the kids were more concerned with just going on a train. Half way around we stopped off at the Lake View and the kids played while I chilled out and absorbed the view. After that we got back on the train and finished the journey. The farm has some pedal tractors that kids use to go around the farm on. They looked great fun to me, but I had so much trouble convincing my friends kids that they should try them too. So after much convincing and no way forward, I gave up and instead they went off to the Children's Pet Area where they got to feed and play with the animals. A great day out and thoroughly enjoyed by us all.

First off when you arrive parking is easy enough with plenty of space. Entry is £6 for adults (£7.50 for kids, and there's family ticket and concessions too). It's £1 for three bags of food (which is well worth it!) There's a small café as well as plenty of picnic benches near the entrance along with a kids playground. Just before the barn, quite often they have birds of prey in or creepy crawlies, both of which have been there on previous trips and you're allowed to get hands on. In the farm itself you can see pigs, donkeys, deer, llamas, alpacas, horse, cows, goats and all the sheep! New this year were also wallabies. They have lamb feeding at set times that you can get involved in too. They've also grown a maze made out of maize which is good fun. Finally there's a small train that you can jump on if your little ones are a bit tired!

The best aquarium for freshwater fish I've been in a long time, I used to go to the hillfoot shop…read morethen the disappeared but they've just moved onto a industrial estate which is great for me as I work just round the corner and it's so much easier to park. Well we're to begin, as I said I always used this family ran aquatics until they moved I then had the joy of dealing with dobbies and pets at home, which is ok if you like paying through the nose for dull fish and pretty rubbish advise I was thrilled when I saw the sign at the side of the road for a new aquarium and was pleasantly surprised when it was the guys from my old shop...ace so stocked up my tank with beautiful fish and yea I know everyone slates guppies but there my favourite and they have like 15 different types, loads of tetras and random stuff I don't even know of, their expanding the shop soon they say and I can't wait about another 50 odd tanks so the place will have tons of different varieties to choose from, don't be put off by my comments if you like unusual fish and hate guppies lol there loads of weird and wonderful stuff and really colourful cichlids, discus, arrowana, rasbora, Angels and their cold water fish are stunning big fat bubble head goldfish...amazing so I'm going to set up another big tank from them and have fancy goldfish, there so reasonable you have to visit and get something for your tank. Going to take my dad in for some koi carp as he says everywhere else for pond fish In liverpool is over prised and they never last, he's made up the guys from hillfoot aquaria are still going strong and looking forward to getting some big koi. Blackbrook Zoo is a good family day out in the Moorlands. When the park first opened, it was called…read moreBlackbrook world of birds, and obviously, birds are still an important part of the offerings here (in fact, Blackbrook has the largest bird collection in the UK). But they have now extended their range and made this an attractive and family friendly small zoo, with animals such as lemurs, wallabies and more recently, riverhogs. The zoo is open all year round and has a strong focus on education, leading to many trips by local schools. It has free parking, a gift shop and kids play area, as well as a pretty stone built tea shop - it is well worth a visit.
