Stockland Wetherill Park is currently undergoing renovations and have been for approximately 18 months. They are doing the renovations in stages and have made quite a mess of it!
The renovations started at the north end of the shopping centre, including a complete overhaul of the carpark to include a multi-storey complex and a remodelling of the restaurant area and cinemas. The cinemas had their main entranceway removed and replaced with scaffolding-style stairs which did not feel safe to climb. They squeaked and wobbled. They had also removed the elevator in the course of this renovation - forcing you to face the terrifying stairs or forego the movie. All the facades of the shops adjoining this section of carpark were boarded up and tunneling wooden walkways were created to join the northern and southern entrances. It took twice as long to get from one end of the shopping centre to the other as a result of these walkways. As an added discomfort, the walkways were dimly lit (especially at night) and cold.
That area has since been reopened, and it is a great improvement. However, the carpark leaves a lot to be desired. The parking spaces are very small, there are almost as many 'small car' spaces as there are normal car spaces, and in the recent severe rain in Sydney, the car park was leaking and flooding - so much so that it had to be closed. I have also learnt that they are closing this newly opened carpark to mark new parking spaces - obviously I wasn't the only one displeased with the size of the spaces.
They still have a long way to go in the renovation process and I fear that the stores are starting to suffer. Almost every store I've been into has little stock in it, and hardly ever the items you go there for, and it tells me that the stores are suffering financially. I hope they are getting some sort of remuneration from Stockland as they have botched this renovation from start to finish. read more
