A very calming demeanor for an anxious person like myself. She answered all my questions, and she made sure to ask about my medical history and what meds I was taking to ensure I had and accurate, healthy eye exam. She keeps my off site and BJC medical doctors informed of my status. Her optic assistants were all great, thorough and professional. The office intake staff are professional and accommodating to patient needs. I would recommend COHEN ASSOCIATES if you want excellent care.

Was lucky enough to get squeezed into the busy schedule at Eye Microsurgery. I used to go to Clarkson Eyecare, and had a really bad experience with them last year, and vowed that I would no longer go to them for my yearly eye examination. Using my insurance's "find a provider" tool, I just took a chance on Dr. Andrea Andrud based on how centrally her office is located here in St. Louis. I'm glad I rolled the dice! The entrance to the medical building where Eye Microsurgery is located is actually across from the building's parking garage, a bit hidden but eventually found it with some help from a friendly patient sitting in a waiting room. Historically, I'm a bit grossed out by hospitals. I'm a germaphobe and hospitals always seem like a breeding ground of communicable diseases and bacteria. I was obviously very happy to see all the COVID-19 precautions the facility was taking. Elevators had rules posted and even had markers to mark where you should stand if you have to share an elevator. The waiting room for Eye Microsurgery was very easy to locate, and was very comfortable and welcoming. I really liked that the office sent a packet to my home a week before my exam to fill out and bring with me. That cut down wait time before being seen. The women who greeted me at the front desk were very hospitable and professional. Typically, when I go to a more "big box" eye care center like Clarkson or Lenscrafters, it's not that I don't trust the doctor I'm seeing, but going to an eye surgery center felt different. The doctors there are Opthamologists, which means they diagnose and treat eye diseases, including vision loss, detached retinas, cataracts and glaucoma. They perform laser retina surgery, refractive surgery and lens replacement operations. Dr. Andrea Andrud was a pure joy to visit with! She had an incredibly warm bedside manner and made meaningful small talk during our visit. One example was talking about my dog and suggesting I could get a halloween costume for him with "Doc Hound" embroidered on it. (Doc Hound was a play on words on dachshund! I love word play) She fully explained all the exams she was performing, and made me feel very at ease. It was incredibly easy to trust her expertise! She set me up with a very comfortable pair of contacts as well as some great eye drops for my excessively dry eyes. Really looking forward to my appointment next year!

28 year old - Male - 8 Month old detached retina; Scleral Buckle Surgery - Dr. BRADLEY T. SMITH…read more 6 months ago, I came into The Retina Institute with a detached retina in the right eye. The retina had been detached for a total of 8-9 months and I was beginning to lose my vision from the top left of my field of vision downward to the center. I was sent to The Retina Institute for a follow up after my optometrist noticed tearing in my scans. I met Doctor Smith who explained my condition. Due to the intense mixed martial arts fighting I have been doing since I was 16 (Nearly a decade of competing and heavy sparring), my nearsightedness caught up with me in the form of a detached retina in the right eye. Eight months had gone by till I had noticed the curtain appearing in my vision out of the top left corner of my eye. Unlike most retinal detachments, the loss of vision was slow and not complete at first, leading to my left eye filling in the details over time. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Dr. Smith promptly scheduled surgery for two weeks later. To ensure I was making an informed decision, I sought a second opinion at the University of Washington. The consulting ophthalmologist there not only recognized Dr. Smith by name but also endorsed him as one of the nation's top retinal surgeons, strongly recommending I proceed with his treatment plan. I immediately did just that. The surgery was performed at St. Luke's Hospital, and the results were remarkable. Within two days post-operation, despite residual trauma, my vision had already surpassed its pre-surgery state. Now, six months post-surgery, I've experienced substantial improvement, with my full field of vision restored and clarity continuing to progress. In the next 6 months, I am confident that I will have functional vision in this eye for the foreseeable future and I am already so grateful that I can see this well already. Dr. Smith, although not the most chatty or sociable personality I have met, is one of the most competent doctors I have ever had the pleasure of being treated by. Dr. Smith saved my eyesight, in both eyes. I am so grateful I can see my beautiful wife, go back to work, and be able to see this wonderful world we live in once more. Three months post-surgery, I even completed a Tough Mudder challenge, marking a significant milestone in my recovery. That's all due to Dr. Smith. In conclusion, Dr. Bradley Smith's professionalism, surgical talent, and overall competence have been pivotal in restoring my quality of life. Dr. Bradley Smith is insanely competent, professional, and talented surgeon and he saved my eyesight. I am profoundly grateful for the care provided by Dr. Smith and his team at The Retina Institute.

In all seriousness, I am still quite shocked when I woke up this morning and I opened my eyes and they just worked. I didn't have to fumble around on my night stand trying to find my glasses. However, I did encounter an issue and I do not believe that it was handled professionally or in a way that I felt heard at all. The procedure changed the way my eye color looks. I had green eyes, and now they look more like stainless steel/gray/mirror-like and it's been a very difficult adjustment. When I called to report this after my procedure, they expected me to wait 6 weeks but when I demanded to be seen sooner, my only option was a 5:45 am appointment. I took that appointment and saw Dr. Brinton and felt very dismissed. I was told it was my perception, asked if I had previously worn colored contacts in the pictures that showed my green eyes, was told I could look into tattooing of my iris (no thank you) and I could now wear colored contacts. I had the surgery because contacts bothered my eyes so that wasn't an option. I decided to give it a year in hopes that maybe the green would come through with time but it hasn't. never once in that first year did anyone from his office contact me to check in about the issue. at my one year appt. I saw Dr. Molly. I once again tried to explain how diffucult its been to lose that part of your identity. to her credit, she listened and seemed to care. I asked her to speak with Dr. Brinton and share the update and to get back to me about any solutions to rectify the situation. I asked for a time frame and she said to give her a week or two. however, I never heard back. again, I am grateful for my vision and I did get that from the procedure, but what was taken was a part of me that had been mine for 56 years, and that is a loss that's been hard. more so than that, I was completely dismissed. I was told by Dr. Brinton that green isn't even a real eye color as it falls under the category of hazel. while that may be true medically, my drivers license says green, my family knew me with green eyes and when I look in the mirror, I no longer have green eyes. therefore, my review is mixed. honestly, if I was given even an ounce of compassion by dr. Brinton, I wouldn't even be writing this. and I'm sure there will be some kind of rebuttal to minimize my words by Brinton Vision, but I know and so do the interns that I was treated poorly in regards to my issue. it should be in the informed consent that your eye color can look different after surgery. had I known, I would have no reason to complain. proceed with caution is my advice. it was my experience that quantity is more important than quality. and my example for that is that they were able to scheduled my surgery mere days after my first appointment, but when I requested to see the doctor after my issues arose, they had no issue trying to push my appointment out over a month.
