I splurged on a super expensive pair of jeans. I brought them to Stitchit for a snugger fit in the seat, and they botched the job, creating a weird bulge at the top of the seat. They have tried to fix it multiple times but do not seem to have the skills to fix what they have done. The jeans are unwearable. Hopefully, I can find a better tailor capable of fixing the damage that Stitchit has done. Avoid this tailor for anything beyond simple hem jobs. read more

Here's the thing, if you have some nice pieces of clothing that need to be altered, go find a proper tailor. A great tailor is worth their weight in gold. If I had some serious altering to do, I wouldn't bring it to Stitch It because I don't know how well they are trained. However, I am more than comfortable with them doing simple alterations like shortening pants, replacing buttons, and fixing zippers. I have been to Stitch It in different locations and I have never been disappointed with the work they have done with simple alterations. I find their prices to be reasonable, their service to be pretty good, and their work to be solid. read more

Stitch It is a really great shop for people that need to fix their pants, jeans, skirts or dress, gowns, shirts and blouses, silks, leather, outerwear, and even boots. They do all sorts of alterations, including taking in or letting out pants and jeans, shortening sleeves, mending rips, patching, and replacing buttons and zippers. They also sell irons, ironing boards, steamers, and few other odds and ends related to sewing. Personally, I know how to sew, so I try and do all of my own alterations myself, but when I'm pressed for time, too lazy, or simply don't think I can do that great of a job on something in particular, at least I know Stitch It is there if I ever need help. read more

I was passing by, as yelpers seem to do, on my way to the Bay (aka The Hudson Bay company for people from down south) and noticed that my Bay jacket had a zipper that was not working. Rather than argue with the Bay that they should fix my 10 year old jacket, I popped in here. I was a bit surprised it was $10 to fix, but I was more surprised that they did it while I watched and it worked like new. Granted, it's a chain, but this one worked, and I would go back to any of them now because it was fast and easy to work with. read more

I am always nervous about going to a new tailor/alteration spot - I never know if I can expect to get my clothes back in one piece or not. Unfortunately, my anxiety was well-founded. The first issue - I call the store to ask how much reattaching buttons to a jacket would be. The gentleman answering the phones had a thick accent, and I had great difficulty understanding him. I managed to get the price, and assumed this would be a one-off thing. I went to the location - showed the two pairs of buttons on my peacoat that I wanted reattached, and paid just shy of $10 for four buttons. It seemed a little expensive, but I didn't much care as I wanted it done right. Here's where it got fun. I returned the next day - got my jacket. Oh - look at that - they only did one pair of buttons. So I get to return the day after that - they do one button that I wanted, and another random button. Whatever - the other button was not that near falling off. A day after THAT, I realize - the first pair of buttons that they did - one of the front buttons - is not even close to centered; I can't even do up my jacket fully. My peacoat was my grandfather's in the navy, and is from 1947. So they've gone and made a hole in my irreplaceable jacket, and I have to go back, AGAIN. I wasn't offered a refund, I was barely even apologized to. There was a consistent language barrier with all but two of their staff - and when you're cutting and sewing and altering clothing, you REALLY should be able to understand what the customer wants. I'm sure my experience is not typical of the location, but if you value your clothes...don't take them here. Spend the extra cash and go to a real tailor - one that speaks fluent and articulate English. Bonus fact: the online survey on their website doesn't load. Nor does their customer service answer their phones, or phone you back. Avoid this chain. read more

I was just in Ottawa for business and my luggage was lost. I had to buy some new clothing and Stitch It made sure that my clothes fit right. It was nice to be able to go to a brand I trust. My main location is Guelph and this was my first time at this location. Great work! read more

I was not pleased about the quality of service OR the quality of the alteration of this stitch it. I went in with a dress that I needed altered to fit me; the wide straps, which crossed over the bust, needed to be shortened so that they would stay on my shoulders. I put on my dress so that the lady could pin the shoulders in place. I expressed concern that they way she had pinned one side left it gaping away from my chest all the way up to the shoulder, instead of lying flat, but she said no, she would just tack it in the centre and it would be fine. I said no, the shoulder isn't pinned correctly and she insisted that it was fine, barely even looking at what I was trying to show her. When I came to pick up the dress, I didn't try it on as I was pressed for time. Needless to say, I was very disappointed when I tried it on the morning I needed to wear it and found that not only had she not fixed the gaping issue, she had also put a few stitches right where the bust crossed over which made the fact that once side didn't lie flat even more evident. She also tightened the shoulders too much; it was very uncomfortable to wear. I cannot believe that I paid nearly $50 for this service that resulted in the dress being unwearable. I strongly recommend that you do not use this branch of Stitch it. read more
