Fun speakeasy feel you'd be easy to miss. Heard music as we passed by and turned down. Labeled as an "American Bar" as Americans thankfully we didn't feel too American. Typical dark lit atmosphere. Loved all of the old sewing machines. Menu is eclectic with nice higher end drink options. Had the curly fries. Be warned it's not noted that there's paprika on them and the spice was almost too much. Thankfully we had a pitcher of water on the table. Staff was fine. Didn't come here for food, but stopped by for drinks after dinner. It was surprisingly empty around 8PM, but it was a Tuesday so that was probably why. I loved the ambiance and the fun decor (tons of antique sewing machines). The entrance was also much easier to find than expected - it really isn't hidden like a speakeasy at all. Rather, the 'storefront' sets the mood for what is to come in the bar. We sat at the bar so we could watch the bartenders work their magic. Our bartender in particular was super friendly and when he found out that we were from out of the country, gave us a ton of tips on the NSW/Sydney CBD alcohol and club/bar restrictions in case we wanted to go out. He also was kind enough to let my companion sample a Tim Tam after finding out she'd never had one before! I ordered a chocolate based drink called "That one time at band camp" which was a perfect substitute for the dessert we didn't have during dinner. It's described as a s'more in a glass and it was just that! It was beautifully presented and the first few sips were wonderful, but it got a little too thick and sweet at the end. read more

Awesome little pub in the city! Coworker suggested coming here after work for drinks. It's a cool little place, no signs outside. Only reason I knew it was Stitch was that there was a "stitched up" suit in the window display. The bar is small but has a really cool, American bar feel. We sat at the back on the bar and ordered some drinks. They said they could only run one credit card, so my coworker gave his. The cocktail menu looked amazing, so much on the menu. I couldn't decide, everything sounded really good, so I just went with an old favorite, the mojito. It was really good, well made with the right blend of rum, lime and sugar. Not too sweet but not too strong. Got a second cocktail - the pineapple head. It was YUMMO! We also ordered some curly fries for the table with chili - really good! We spent the next three hours there, sipping on cocktails. A group headed out for dinner, so three of us stayed back for some food. We ordered some chicken and steak tacos which were really tasty. We were still hungry so we ordered two chicken sausages that had pear and brie cheese - really good but felt a bit sick afterwards. Came here for after work drinks and sat in the 'jail' or 'cell' in the back--fun! the decor is great and it is impossible to have a lull in conversation because someone will notice something different. Had the daquiri which was really nice, but the server brought the wrong drink for my friend which took a lot of explaining. Cute underground American inspired bar. You can very easily walk past this joint unless you are looking for the sewing machines and the wooden swinging doors but if you manage to venture down the stairs to can enjoy some treats (eats and drinks). The menu has an American mix of Tex-Mex, burgers, hot dogs and some really tasty salads. The drinks list is extensive with cocktails and a great range of spirits (specialist whisky). The decor is the main draw card that I loved about this place - it's overwhelming in its clutter and pieces from jail cells bars to 30 pictures on a wall. Do not get their duck hot dog (Ducky Macky): it is suppose to be a rich sausage dressed in pungent truffle and garlic mayo served with foie gras. It was the worst hot dog in my life, but my cousin and her flatmate enjoyed their things.. So I'd come here again but not for that hot dog. It was overwhelming from everything in and out of the dawg itself. Oh and their fries are pretty good. Sydney is getting tricky. Between the hidden bars with no names and the number-named bars with hidden agendas, nothing is quite as it seems these days. Despite that, I had heard wild and fanciful tales of Stitch Bar and so I sought it out one balmy Wednesday night. It's a little hard to find, yes. But no more so than Grandma's and Shady Pines (rivals in the world of awesome watering holes). Walking down York, the large plummeting staircase caught my eye and down we went. I stopped in the small foyer first while my friends (they were boys, so maybe that's why) surpassed the intricate details and bee-lined toward the booze. In the little front landing was a carefully arranged sewing display complete with old machines and garments in the works. On the opposite wall were tiny little linked chairs fit for a family of gnomes. I'm not quite sure how these tied in, but I figured I'd note them anyway. I finally found my way down the wide staircase and into the main bar, which was pleasantly uncrowded on this particular night. I took myself on a little tour and found a couple alcoves filled with intimate day beds and cushioned booths, separated by old wirework. Sitting at the bar, I propped my feet up on the rows of old sewing machines that held up the bar itself. To complete the look, the vintage Singer machine cases dangled from rope above the superb spirit collection. I asked the bartender what the sewing association was (had this been an old sweatshop in the past?) but apparently there was none. That or he didn't know it. The cocktail menu here at Stitch is top notch, and I also took enthusiastic note of the fact that they serve hot dogs, which is my most favorite food (Do you see my American flag waving?). I can't wait to go back to Stitch somewhat on the early side, get some grub and stay all night. Drop in and say hi to me because I bet once I settle in, I might never ever leave. read more

Went to Stitch Bar with a couple of dear friends and my wife for my 40th. Ordering food is simple with the QR code and the waitstaff are attentive and friendly. Drinks and food were thoroughly enjoyable, particularly the classic hotdog. In normal circumstances I would give five stars, but the staff member on the door made that a bridge too far. She was unpleasant on the way into the venue and borderline disdainful on our way out. If you're going for an early 2000s nightclub door attendant vibe, you've nailed it. I'm definitely not one of those blokes who has the audacity to tell women to smile (because that wasn't the issue). The door attendant remained in her swivel chair with her feet up and made no effort to make any of us feel welcome. Again, that could be the vibe you are going for and you might want to make patrons feel as though they're putting you out. Maybe you don't want the public facing element of your establishment to be an open and inviting one. It is a shame that all of the excellent, excellent work performed by everyone downstairs can be completely undermined by the (lack of) performance of a colleague. Unless (of course) the unpleasantness and aloofness was purely performative... in which case, you should really stop it with that "vibe". read more

Where the F is this place? I am staring up at the 61, but can't see it. Look down. Yup... down the stairs..... ohhhhhhh..... there it is ... :-) No... Stitch Bar is not the easiest bar I have ever had to find, but wow, was it ever worth it. While still bright outside, the smooth darkness, lit by the odd candle and dim lights reflecting off the array of bottles behind the bar, showed me to a booth. Within seconds a waitress was at the table asking me what drink I wanted. Being the whisky drinker that I am, I was glad to see they had a better than normal range of single malts, but I was somewhat shocked that a dbl whisky was more expensive than a cocktail. The price of this place means that (at least for me) this place will not become a regular hangout, but damm I wish it could. The atmosphere in here was amazing. Naturally, as it was a Friday night, all the booths were full and there was standing room only, but I have been told by a friend of mine that the other weekdays are alot less busy. At a popular bar, I know it is common practice to shout at the person sitting next to you, but in that atmosphere, with that price on the drinks, I had kinda hoped that it would be a little easier to talk to the people at my table. read more

You will have me in this place anytime - Stitch that is. I love this bar though I did not know it was going to be Stitch after being introduced to it at a party, the Moet Pop up party. I mostly attended this to marvel at the work that the designer Sibella Court created inside with chalk, gold bevelled antique mirrors (which are all over the roof in one of the small rooms), red velvet, magnums of Moet to hold lampshades, hand painted rug of red diamonds - it's overall pretty cool and my favourite place I like to sit and sip bubbles when hanging out for the night in Stitch. I have ordered food at Stitch but have never got around to consuming it after offering it to all my companions and forgetting myself, but they all swear by the hot dogs. The staffs are fantastic, welcoming, informative and never too busy to answer any questions of which I had many for this review. If it can for me I'm sure this bar will have you in Stitch as well. Go along and enjoy this intimate little venue which is open for lunch as well as dinner. read more

The posse and I stumbled into Stitch one Saturday night at about midnight and drank cocktails and planned our US road trip until 2am in the morning. Great night. Great little bar in the heart of Sydney - you stroll down the stairs into the basement and there are plenty of tables to chose from - it does get pumping during Saturday night. It used to be a sewing factory from what I can gather as they were sewing machines a plenty around - and the cocktail list is sensational. I had a few to many G&Ts. Very cool bar. Dimly lit, unassuming place with fancy & unique sweet cocktails. I don't like sweet and got the Mexi' can - more sour than sweet and I enjoyed it (says a whiskey / bourbon lover). Presentation was so gorgeous - you can't help but want to take photos. I don't like pub food and this "gourmet burgers and pub food" was outstanding. Mac & cheese balls were great, tacos had a spicy bite at the end, Mucky duck had a brioche bun, and the pat and stick ice cream sandwich was a great way to end a very filling meal. Generous helping of whipped cream. Only giving it a 4 for inconsistent service. At first they were a little too attentive and asked me 4 times if I was still working on my plate. Then at the end we couldn't get the bill for about 20 minutes. Not terrible atmosphere to be "stuck" in, though. read more

Stitch bar is another on the Sydney small bar scene, brought to you by the guys behind one of the original small bars, Pocket. Haberdashery rules at this establishment, evident as soon as you step foot through the front door and notice the old school sewing room, complete with antique 'Singer' sewing machine. Descend the staircase and proceed to your sewing den. Beware, the place is squishy. At the end of the staircase is the bar. Once the customers are a few deep at the bar, it's rather tricky to manoeuvre around this area. Best bet once you arrive is to put your name down for a table, this area is much more comfortable. Mr S, Mr T and I arrive on a Thursday evening and it's already starting to get packed. The clientele is mostly suits, expected given the location, and the time. Of course it's small, this is a small bar after all, but I can't help noticing the cosy, relaxed vibe. I like it, and I smile as I notice the antique 'Singers' and sewing memorabilia around the room. As soon as we arrive, we are asked if we would like to put our name down for a table. Unfortunately, we only have time this evening for a quick drink, before we head off to our dinner reservation. Once you finally make it to the bar and await your turn to be served, you are offered a full cocktail list with all the classics as well as signatures with interesting names such as Romeo Had Juliet, Monkey Magic, Grandma's Addiction and many more. If you're a whiskey drinker, you might be interested to know they've been named as the Sydney Ardbeg Embassy, allowing them to serve the entire range of the Ardbeg selection, including limited editions. We opt for the wine list on this occasion, which is a fairly standard listing for a small bar. Now, let's talk about the food, which you just know is going to be quirky. Grandmas has taken jaffles, El Loco tacos, Baxters Inn Pretzels, Tios popcorn, so what does that leave for Stitch? Hotdogs. That's right, they're bringing back the humble hotdog - with their own twist of course. In fact, they call them Stitches' Dogs and the names don't disappoint - Mack Ducky Dog, Bulldog, The Fly'n Hawaiian and The French Poodle. Stitch is a dark hipster cellar bar where you can forget that time exists and divulge maybe one to many secrets amongst friends (and or even foes!) Upon arrival at street level you're greeted en masse with vintage singer sewing machines which I feel sets the tone for the low key ultra hip inner city establishment. You're tempted down the stairs by an iridescent glow of an old world candle lit charm that almost screams of a prohibition era. Cozy booths or resident bar stools are your choices for catching up on a chinwag with mates with the decent selection of Vinos, craft beers and signature cocktails all too easy to drink in the warm atmosphere. Adding to the "Stitch" theme, the walls are covered with old patterns and for some reason after a couple of hours down there, you definitely feel like you could whip up something special... Or you're just in a stitch anyway... I must repeat again, be warned this cellar is where time does not exist, you walk in thinking its 1920 and leave not knowing how long you've even been there or even what day/year it is. A great place to stop in the city for American style pub food, tasty cocktails and spirits with a healthy dose of hipster ambience. Reasonably priced, a small Place that can nevertheless host couples, groups of four in booth seating as well as a few tables that can hold 6-8. The decor is dark and intimate, but fun and friendly at the same time. Recommend the Mac cheese balls, and my dessert which had a smore in it, which I've only heard about from American shows before but got to try for the first time here. Recommended. read more

I've been here several times and I gotta say it's a great small bar that can be a little hard to find for noobs, but it adds to the cool factor. When you walk in you pass by some sewing machines and head straight downstairs to the bar. One thing to note, is that you can't just sit at any table unless the place is empty...the host/hostess will take your name and seat you appropriately. It can get a busy later in the week, but that's expected out of most places in the CBD. While you wait, grab one of their cocktails...they have a huge variety that are on the pricier side, but hey they're pretty damn good. Don't get The Beetlejuice unless you like beetroot...totally meh for me. Don't expect a large beer menu here though. When you sit down you can order their variety of hot dogs and even curly fries...something I haven't seen elsewhere in Sydney. They've added tacos to their menu that I haven't tried yet. I'm partial to the Mack Ducky Dog and the French Poodle, but you can't go wrong with either. read more

I like American style bars, so it was probably a no-brainer that I was going to like Stitch, but it was way too crowded (as it was a Friday evening) to get a proper experience and I couldn't get a table, so will need to go back for some food. The cocktails we had were pretty delicious though and I enjoyed the atmosphere, so I'm sure if I go back on a week night I'm going to like it even more. read more

I really like Stitch bar, but it is not because of the gimmick - yes they have sowing machines and tailor appliances everywhere. But this bar has a lot more then the mere gimmick. The food here is quite good - probably the best food in the line of bars on York St. The burgers and curly fries are really good. There is a few vegetarian options, but it is mainly meat (however, the vegi burger is good). So this is normally the place I stop off to get a good bite before a night of drinking. However, they do offer more than food. They have some pretty cool cocktails and beer selection. Just be warned that this place is generally crowded so you might have to wait for a table, and they do not take reservations after 5pm. read more

We went to Stitch Bar on a crowded Friday night so it was pretty hard to find a place to sit, yet the staff was really helpful and got us table and service in less than half an hour. I had the (huge) veggie burger with lots of curly chips (kudos) and the Pineapple Head cocktail (bit disappointing considering the $19, basically a Mojito with tiny pineapple chunks and lots of basil). I guess it didn't help that the delivery person was just hanging around for a while, not sure if they were trying to find the place or what, either way - our food was cold. Chips were dried up, Wings were a bit tasteless, not enough sauce, it's more a battered dish and yea not hot. Mac & Cheese Balls were ok. Best one was the BBQ corn - had the most flavour. I've had the Fries before and they are usually good - this was at the Bar. I guess it's much better to eat in and I'd give it a 4 if this was a review for sitting in, atmosphere is great. This place is very small and the guys at the entrance counting people going in makes it feel very exclusive. While I like the look and vibe of the place, the excessive price of drinks ($9 for an NZ beer) can make it a really expensive night out while you wait for a table, which would have been a while on the night we went there (Thursday 7PM), hence we bailed for another bar as we were starving. The food did look good as it came out of the kitchen, but until I can sample it I'm leaving my rating as is. read more

The fact that stitcher is the "Ardbeg embassy" indicates we that this is a whisky heavy bar. We managed to pick the vodka, gin and cachaca cocktails out of the bunch. Great cocktails, good music and great ambience. Staff were variable, but mostly the service was very good. A good idea well executed. read more

If you manage to find Stitch bar, the congratulations! Nestled in a commercial basement on York street, opposite from the Bavarian Bier Cafe, Stitch bar was launched in the makers of Pocket bar. So you can imagine it's sure to build some hype. The fall of handburgers in late 2010 inspired Stitch bar to build a New-York-esque speakeasy style bar to be a haven for Hot Dog lovers. These aren't no average hotdogs either, here you'll be paying up to $19 for the creative rendition with Duck, orange and pistachio sausage with Foie gras de canard and truffle sauce. More of a cocktail bar, the dark secluded rooms offer a romantic get away for the moochers, but don't fret the bar stools are the perfect vantage point for a singles' weekend galavanting. The full service bar is appropriately joined at the hip to the more than capable bar tenders, which go by the name of cocktail engineers. I asked them for a smokey scotch, and after some discussion of tastes, styles, and my personal taste experience I was served a velvety smooth, rich and smokey scotch with frozen marble rocks instead of ice (as I was told the melted ice would ruin the flavour). Come for the hot dogs if you wish, and you'll be coming back for the specialist drinks, smooth Jazz tunes, and some type of 1960's Mad Men feel to the bar - Just makes you want to light a cigar, and drink scotch all night. read more

I'm definitely a fan of this place. If you've never had a chance to venture out of that large, noisy, local, mega-pub that only serves mass produced beer and food, then Stitch might be a bit of a culture shock for you. This small bar venue (about 60 peeps) is tucked away downstairs in an old seamstress/clothing shop on York St (next to the cupcake shop) - blink and you'll miss it. In keeping with its heritage, the decor is made up of old Singer sewing maching bases, cotton spindles, and all manner of haberdashery bits and bobs. They have a great selection of wines and cocktails, and a few choice beers thrown in to boot. Food-wise, you can gourge yourself on gourmet burgers, hotdogs and taco's - my current fave is the Bulldog - Hot 'n' spicy dog with black eyed beans, spicy tomato salsa, avocado and jalapenos. They've also just recently been named Sydney's Ardbeg Embassy. So if you like your whisky then Stitch can definitely scratch that itch. Ardbeg is one of the most iconic whiskey houses from the mighty island of Islay. As an Ardbeg Embassy, Stitch have the honour to offer the entire range of the Ardberg selection - yum! read more

The burgers are better at Hungry Jacks ... Not really. However, I think the burgers at Stitch are overrated. While they are tasty, I don't think they are anything out of the ordinary. We went here for some pre-dinner drinks and ended up spending longer than we planned and being late for dinner. This bar is exactly the style I love haunting. It's hidden, New Orleans style decor and music with funky array of house made cocktails (as well as the well knowns) provided perfect ambience for us. We snagged a cute couple booth with ease, it wasn't so busy at the time we arrived but it did start to build up by the time we left. Table service was prompt and friendly, barman were welcoming. I especially enjoyed the lack of slutty type female and/or rowdy hormone crazed male crowds. You can tell the type of people who would drink here and that does make a difference too. There's a great selection of small bar appropriate food which we were tempted to try but weren't able to, that'll be next time for sho. Although we did order some curly fries which were slightly spicy but tomato sauce fixes that. Either way it's great Sydney has places like this, we'll be back ! read more

Wow this place has changed. Used to be a really lovely friendly cocktail bar. Obviously Covid capacity restrictions have inflated their sense of important even though there's an empty bar on every corner in the city. Went in with two girlfriends for drinks for my bday with no problem - my partner tried to join us 15mins later after I ordered drinks and they decided to take issue with him and said they couldn't help him without a booking even though they were letting others in. Went up to explain we had a whole empty area to ourselves and they said they were at capacity with 82 guests - I went down and counted 43 guests - and as I stood there 8 people walked out and they still wouldn't let him in - they just wanted to prove their point. Obviously more important than actually making money for the bar. Alberto at from desk was rude and abusive to him which just broke my heart because he's the loveliest person. Stupid, rude, abusive and pointless. Never been treated like this anywhere. Just a horrible traumatic experience and would never dream of going back. read more

Hard to find..I almost walked past it twice! There is a teeny weeny sign somewhere that tells you it's Stitch bar, and you know then, that you are not walking down an abandoned tailor shop, but to a very trendy small bar. There are vintage Singar sewing machines outside the entrance window and as you make your way down. It's all very cute and sets the tone for the place.. The cocktails are interesting enough but not spectacular... There are quiet a few small bars in Sydney that have revolutionised the cocktail scene, and I wouldn't count Stitch in one of them.. Having said that the place does do some seriously good fries, whether it's the hand cut version thick variety or the curly fries... They are all great and so are the burgers and gourmet hot dogs! It's a fun place to hang out after work to down a few drinks and eat a few fries! read more

The one meal on the menu that I could have (sorry but salad isn't a meal - it's a side dish) was a falafel burger that was mediocre at best.
