Best shaving soaps ever!!! My mother decided to surprise me with 4 of their shaving soaps, Executive Man, Sharp Dressed Man, Ben Franklin and Ramblin' Man. The purchasing experience was also great along with everything with the shipping too! The shaving soaps are at an EXCELLENT value. Bar none. Excellent lather and awesome slickness. Rod and Mandy were nothing but helpful and kind and put a very nice note in the receipt when I received the package. I also LOVE their humorous scent descriptions, especially for the Ben Franklin one! If anyone who reads this does not enjoy shaving or has not tried Stirling yet, I highly recommend that you do because this stuff is AWESOME! Okay, I've been a customer of Stirling Soaps for years now. They primarily made shaving soaps, but have since branched out. All of the stuff I've tried from them have been great. Let's talk about the scents first. For anyone coming from more traditional scents, or canned shaving cream, Stirling Soaps' scents are an eye-opener. When I first ordered from them, of course I got Vanilla Sandalwood. But look at some of the other scents. Orange Chill?! This scent literally smells like being in an orange orchard. Weekend in Malibu smells like a flower field. And you can match the entire shaving process. Aftershave, and aftershave balm in the same scent! If you're coming from traditional scents like boring ol' sandalwood, it's like discovering toppings on pizza for the first time, after a lifetime of eating only cheese pizzas. If you're coming from those barbershop or menthol canned shaving creams, it's like discovering non-barbershop or menthol-flavored pizza. As far as how they perform, they lubricate and cushion better than any other soap I've tried. I bowl lather, and I take my time with that; so if you're one of those who wants to build a lather in 30 seconds, your results may vary. I personally find the lather more lubricating and cushioning than the popular soaps everyone gets when they first get into wet shaving (D.R. Harris, TOBS, MWF, Proraso, etc). It's an all-around pleasurable shaving experience. Their soaps are tallow-based, and if you get a super fresh batch, they'll have a slight odor. Don't worry about it! Just put it away for about a week or two, and after that, the odor will have dissipated. Also, their pucks last forever (granted, I'm not an everyday shaver). So here's also my recommendation, if you want to maximize finding scents that you'll enjoy. Get on their bath soap subscription, and let them pick the scents. You'll find the ones you like. They have so many scents that you can even start classifying scents by season. Like... look at the Hot Apple Cider soap. Great soap scent for autumn! The very best shaving soap I have used in my 51 years of wet shaving. I could not be happier with the level of protection their shaving soap provides! I changed to shaving with a D/E safety razor about 20 years ago. I have used very expensive shave soap from England to reasonably priced Italian soaps. NONE of them even come close to the protection and great lather the Sandalwood Shave Soap provides. It must be the tallow and lanolin that make all the difference I guess. I was surprised how nice and mild the scent is too. I use a vintage Gillette 195 or Slim razor. I shave two or three times in a row changing the razor setting a little milder each time. I am getting the best shaves I have ever had, no nicks no cuts and no burning when done. I just ordered a sampler of five different aftershaves to try them out. My husband has ordered from Stirling Soap Company since I believe they first started for all his soaps, shaving needs and to him its been a 5 experience. I just recently started ordering online (as guest before I realized they provided points for accounts) a few years ago whenever he wanted a brush or specific item and without a doubt - excellent products that are top quality BUT affordable and not marked up like others have. We both appreciate & respect that about Stirling Soap company. Just last year they started their coffee roasting & at first we ordered a few beans to try a few ( I hope they bring back a Nicaragua bean again) but we took a break. Just a few weeks ago I purchased the coffee grinder - again affordable but not to far off the retail costs but since I was buying coffee we ordered it. Unfortunately the grinder from Bodum was defective so am awaiting a replacement - no fault of Sterling. I love S.S commitment to stellar customer service and the personal hand written note or samples on shipments is worth coming back time & time again even if an issue occurs. Hands down one of THE BEST artisan soap companies. There hasn't been a single product that has disappointed me when it comes to scent and performance. For what you pay you truly get serious value, about $14-$15 for 5.8 ounces of soap?! That's outrageous! A free sample of bath soap is included with your purchase which is honestly fantastic because it gives you a chance to try out the soap and determine if you'd like to purchase it as a bar soap, shave soap, EDT. After having much success in that world they branched out by making other skin care products and now offer a full suite of products from body butters to lip and hand balm to deodorant to body soap and the list goes on. For price and performance this is one of the best artisans on the market; top-shelf ingredients with lots of skin goodies. I have made multiple purchases over the years from Stirling and I have never disappointed with the service or product.
