on the Small Town Germany food tour another co-worker favorite, yes it was so good that we went…read moretwice yes the second time did not live up to the expectations on the food side because the menu changed and we could not translate well and did not know what we ordered, yes the service was absolutley exceptional and yes I would still recommend this even though our second meal was different because that was our fault not the cooks. and yes I did get kindernuggets both times and both times THEY DID NOT DISSAPPOINT!!!!! Welcome to the scene kolpinghaus! the staff there is so incredibly nice it was warm in the building for us and both times they opened their bier garten just for us. the first time we went I could not tell you what I ordered I saw a picture of it on Google reviews and showed it and the cooks just chef'd it up! there was a bone in it the meat was good all the food was always fresh. My coworker said that the veal they had the first night was the best veal they have ever had in their entire existance on this planet. The second time we went I went with the friend snitzel and it just wasn't as good as Escker it was the second best schnitzel I have had but the Escker review really tops the charts for my schnitzel german existence. all in all I would recommend Kolpinghaus to any and all
On the right side of this photo is the resturant

I'm not sure what this was but I showed them a picture and it was very good

We stayed here in September/October 2022. I would fly back to Germany just to stay here again! This…read morehotel restaurant is on the hill overlooking the Ruhr river in the quaint German village of Volmarstein, part of the larger town of Wetter. A very historic hotel. It is built just below the castle ruin of Burgruine. The rooms are comfortable with fabulous views. Of course the classic German. Frühstück.(breakfast) is included. The breakfast room will be probably the most pleasant part of your stay! We stayed for over two hours just enjoying the ambience. The cost of the room was quite reasonable. About €100 which, when you consider the incredible breakfast, was super reasonable. The owner comes from a long line of owners with interesting family history. We had a special dinner with German relatives, and he went out of his way to set up a private room which was delightful for the dinner. If you're in the area, don't miss it!!
Do not stay here if you want peace and quiet. It's a hotel built like an atrium so all the rooms…read moredoors are facing the center of the lobby. The entire hotel only has 2 levels of rooms so you can't avoid the noise. People are downstairs in the lobby/small bar area talking loudly until past 2 AM. Then around 6 the breakfast noises start. Clanging of dishes. You can clearly hear what people are talking about while you are laying in bed trying to sleep. The lobby area should really be closed by 10 pm or even midnight. I attended the breakfast buffet on the first day 35 minutes before it ended. They did not refill items at that point. No fruit. Cold eggs. 20 euros. Breakfast ended at 10:00 and while I finished my tea at 10:09 they informed myself and a couple at another table that breakfast was over and could we please leave. German hospitality ... I guess . I paid for breakfast that day and they missed out on my $20 a day for the rest of the week as I made sure to eat breakfast elsewhere. I spend 1-2 weeks in Bochum every other month as I have close family that lives there. I switch to various hotels depending on what's booked ( starlight express and soccer stadium games often book up hotels in Bochum). This one is by far on the bottom of my list. The pros are Free Parking. Feels safe ( though I wish the room had a deadbolt or secondary lock from the inside) Overall the staff was very nice.
