To really appreciate this shop, you've got to go all the way inside and up into the little mezzanine level at the back, where all sorts of gorgeous earrings and brooches are for sale, as well as bags and other accessories. There's loads of great stock in this shop, and it's all got a great home-woven feel to it. Tops, skirts, hats, scarves; it's all quite "hippy" in style, and extremely popular with female students who like to drip around Gloucester Road.
I had a funny experience here. I wandered in and started browsing, and only then noticed that there was a film crew inside. I find out that they were filming a girl walking past the mannequins in the window, as part of a short scene in a music video. They had kept the shop open while they worked, which was all a bit awkward, because it was quite hard to slip out once I'd gone inside, without disturbing their shoot! So, I ended up browsing quietly in the shop for longer than I had anticipated. Lucky it's such a nice shop!
This is a great shop to come if the festival-style clothes are your style or if you're looking for pretty, ethnic earrings or a slouchy bag. There are quite a few shops of this kind along Gloucester Road, and some make more of a splash than Sticky Neon does, but be sure not to miss it. read more
