We just bought a new home so that we could get out of a two-story home. Everything went smooth, thanks to our agents (Jack and Melody Cote) and our escrow officer, Danny Montes. The signing of our documents went real smooth and took very little time. Everything was done swiftly and correctly. Danny went page by page with us and there were lots of them. Happens every time you buy a home or sell one. We been through this many times buying and selling rentals and homes for us to live in. Plus we were in Real Estate for a very long time even owning our own business in South Tahoe for 16 years. We have worked with many escrow officers and have had good and not so good, Danny was good and you could tell he cared to make sure everything went smooth. Many times the Seller will pick the escrow officer and then the Buyer agrees. The problems with that in the past is sometimes we never meet or deal with our officer but their assistant. I get peeved when I don't even meet the Escrow Officer we were assigned. How can I refer an Officer I never met? In the very least, the Officer should come out of their hole and greet you. The majority of the time, we were dealing with Danny directly. This is a big plus for us. He even was at the signing and only him not an assistant. I'm a local Realtor and recently called Stewart Title to get a quote for a title search. I was redirected to a gentleman who, frankly, sounded uninterested and unhelpful. When I asked about the title search, he told me Stewart Title doesn't do them but does offer title insurance. While I understand that some title companies focus only on insurance, the interaction left a lot to be desired. His tone was flat, almost depressed, and it felt like my call was more of an inconvenience than an opportunity to assist a potential client. A little more professionalism and customer service would go a long way. read more

Dealing with Stewart Title has been the biggest nightmare and I would never recommend anyone to deal with them. We were required to go through them for the closing of our new house and it was nothing but pure chaos. Michelle Davis, who we worked with, happened to leave Stewart directly after we closed on the house. We were not notified of this. So when we came across a mistake on the documents to close our house, that didn't allow us to record properly, we were shocked to find that Michelle no longer worked there and left in a "mass exodus". We had to work with the manager Jennifer, because we had no one else to work with. It has been almost a whole month of trying to get everything fixed that they had messed up. The longest process ever to get our house properly recorded and they took no accountability for it. We should get extra compensation for their screw up, and haven't even gotten an apology. Steer clear of this Title company. read more

Closing documents were supposed to be ready for our signing at 9:00 AM. We were early. The notary was there. The title company had to reprint and shred three documents. We had to go back later in the day to resign docs that were not prepared to begin with. We contacted the company two weeks prior to verify information. I spent hours on the phone today getting this situation "possibly" resolved. The lack of customer service was evident. The manager and notary were doing their jobs. Joan Sundstrom was our Escrow Officer, and I have never done business with such a rude, uninformative, short tempered, and unprofessional individual. If the rating chart had anything lower than a 1 Star, it would be definitely be that because of Joan. My guess is title & escrow is something most people need only once or twice a decade (if that) AND a passive decision made by either the other party or the real estate agent. All reputable title companies serve the following basic functions: 1. Ensure a clear title and issue a title insurance policy 2. Hold funds in an escrow account & disburse them 3. File all necessary documents 4. Act as an intermediary and notary / signature collector As an investor, I like to be proactive and pick title in my transactions. Here's why my pick is always Sherry Baker @ Western Title. 1. She knows what she's doing and answers all my questions about liens, vesting, title, taxes, loans etc Side Note: did you know that if you and the other party have agreed upon price and terms, you don't really need an agent? Title can handle the rest for you if you produce a contract (lawyer, Internet, cocktail napkin!) 2. She's fast! Time is money and she gets us in and out & answers emails/phone calls quickly. 3. We get a multi transaction discount (ask about it if you are doing multiple deals even if just selling one and buying another OR refinancing shortly after purchase) Last month the seller picked title and we went through another company. Not horrible but not as fast and streamlined as my Western Title experiences. Be picky and pick this one on your next real estate transaction. read more

The agent who did our signing tried to resist when I asked to review the documents I was about to sign. Why is it unreasonable to want to read what I'm signing? And this resistance came about AFTER she gave us a hard time about asking her to wear a mask. She didn't want to wear one in the closed door, windowless room we were in. We asked if she was vaccinated, to which she replied that she did not want to disclose her medical information. So we asked her to wear her mask; but she then stated that she has asthma and couldn't work well with a mask on. So she doesn't want to reveal her medical info, but then tells us in the following sentence that she has asthma? When I called our escrow officer Michele Davis to complain, she said that she didn't want to hear it, and that her boss Sylvia would call me. Sylvia never called me. And Michele never responded to my follow-up email. Disregard for state mandates, obstructing my right to read what I'm signing, and a lack of accountability seem to be what Stewart Title are all about, based on our experience. I I have bought and sold four homes and have had to deal with many title companies and deadlines and all of that FUN stuff that comes along with a mortgage. I have to say that Sherry Baker was by far the most personable and accommodating title officer that I have ever dealt with. She was professional (but not so much that she came off as douchey) and answered my emails within an hour. She kept me in the loop and when the docs were ready to be signed she had me there within a few hours. I am SO impressed with her. My son was impressed too. She kept him busy by giving us a bag of pennies while I was signing docs. He was stoked! I have always dealt with First American and Ticor and they are great companies but I have never been compelled to write a Yelp review on a tittle company. read more

We are Reno builders and have closed about 300 escrows with Western Title. They have NEVER caused an escrow to be delayed.

Stay clear from this title company. Avoid it like the plague! I had the horrible experience of dealing with this company. Lynn Moore and her assistant are very unprofessional and extremely rude. I asked a couple questions about a few of the documents Lynn wanted me to sign. She became agitated and told me she basically didn't know what the statements in question meant! ( and this is her job) After I signed all of the documents she wouldn't give me copies until later that day. When I picked up the file it was missing MANY of the documents I signed and 3 weeks later I am still trying to retrieve them from her. This place is dishonest and very poorly managed......take my advise and use ANY other title company BUT THIS ONE!! read more
